  1. Obviously for me it would be the English Electric Lightning, was stationed at Binbrook 79-85 on 5 Squadron and the LTF. In 2009 joined the Lightning Preservation Group
  2. Use Silver Leaf it is about as realistic as you can get.
  3. Glad you got it sorted in the end
  4. The anode (the longer lead) should be positive, the cathode (shorter lead) negative but I'm sure you knew that, but just a possibility you may have them wrongly connected.
  5. Am just about to start a 1/48 EE Lightning FMk6 which I want to make as XR770 as a 5 squadron kit when it had just an A as a tail letter and cammo paint job, does anyone know where I can get decals for it?
  6. Forgot to mention another reason to prop up the canopy on QRA was that the external canopy switch panel would be secured and also the hydraulic hand pump would be stowed in the wheel well and panel secured, all part of the rapid departure to save time.
  7. As someone who did QRA at Binbrook, I can assure you my description is valid for Binbrook, Gutersloh might have made theirs to a different spec.
  8. It was a length of 2 x 2 painted red with no markings or end fittings only used on QRA to prevent canopy seepage as the canopy jack lock was removed to save time on QRA launch, The pilot would operate the canopy switch once engines running, raise the canopy a bit and knock the 2 x 2 out with his elbow.
  9. The wooden strips held strips of spongy lead which was porous, de icing fluid was dispensed via a cyclic controller. I think it was glycol de-icer.
  10. Got notified from Wonderland models also, so have reserved mine, look forward to the build and gives a chance to get over the festive season too. That should complete my collection of aircraft I have worked on.
  11. Adding the decals which are not the best quality, but acceptable
  12. Yes Brian was a true gent. Last met him at the last Binbrook Lightning Association rally, many years back.
  13. yes Dennis Brooks usually takes a Bucc out for a spin
