  1. cant have too many 109's - I like it.
  2. G'day All, Another sample of my Malta Collection and it shares the disticntion of being my first Tamiya kit! This kit gave me the urge to tackle the Swordfish. Built last year, OOB except for Eduard belts, Aeromaster Malta Defenders decals. Kit was a joy to build, researching the Malta Spit colours was another story... Hope you enjoy the pics. Cheers Stephen
  3. Ah yep! But always good to base your model on a photo if you intend to enter it in a technically judged contest, or to just ensure youre making it as accurate as possible for yourself. in the end you have to be the one thats happy with the result.
  4. Thanks Tony, yes the pilot that day was a very lucky man! Will remember the restraining wire on the next build.
  5. Yes I read Fortress Malta last year couldnt put it down. Just finished Screwball's bio, great book and still reads well today, well worth seeking out. Yes I have the special hobby kit to do one day...
  6. Thats a very nice Spit! - TWO DAYS!!!! Glad you didnt rush it then.
  7. Thanks the sun shades are courtesy of the Verlinden set. Although I read somewhere that you could try finely folded cigarette paper & white glue to make your own.
  8. Thanks, the trenches on the fuselage took about 3 appliactions of Mr Surfacer, so about a week there to it all dry off between coasts & sanding. I have a theory that cr@p kits are a bonus - if you stuff it up well it was a dud kit anyway so no loss, but if it come out OK then youve prevailed over poor quality plastic. With a Tamy kit theres no excuses...
  9. Thanks for the posting the build, I can't get over how well you brush paint! Never knew the FAA flew Brewsters unwanted child. Stephen
  10. Thanks, the siege of Malta in WWII, is one of the greatest stories of endurance and bravery against huge odds to come out of WWII. The sacrifice made by the service men of the free world to defend Great Britians toe hold in the Med, lacks the recognition it deserves. Malta played a vital part as a base of operations to defeat the Axis in North Africa. RN, RAF & FAA offensive ops were extremely successful in limiting supplies to Rommel, but the cost was high. From a modellers point of view the range of aircraft that participated in this field of operations was huge - you are spoiled for choice! The more I read about the siege, the more in awe I am of the individuals that took part in it. On a personal level my folks are of Maltese heritage, although I was graced with the good fortune to be born in the lucky country of Oz. If you like check out my Wellington build here. http://www.saplasticmodellers.com.au/galle...ellington.shtml I'll post it on this forum when I get a chance. Cheers Stephen
  11. Another one of my Malta collection, finished in Oct 11, its nice company for my Albacore. Tamiya kit, which was lovely to build. Cobbled together markings and custom codes, basically OOB, just thinned down certain parts & added Eduard belts. Cheers Stephen
  12. What a nice model of an aeroplane only a mother could love. I must add get one for the stash!
  13. Thanks, if memory serves me well, I found a copy of the aircraft manual on a site dedicate to seaplanes & flying boats i think the site was called Sea Wings, or a name to that effect. Cheers Stephen
  14. Hi All, This is one of my earlier builds from about 5 years ago and was my first attempt at the biplane catergory at our state Expo, (it placed 3rd). Which I was happy with considering what I started with. The interior isnt 100% accurate but is a big improvement over what Artiplast provided... shudder. Scratch built the engine, which I was happy with, and modified the canopy. Aeroclub guns & PE sights. Classic Airframes decals used. Hope ypu enjoy the pics. Cheers Stephen
  15. Very nice build! I do enjoy a subject that a little different. Cheers Stephen
  16. HOLY CRAP!!!!! Your model is something special. Amazing. thanks for sharing this build.
  17. Well here is another selection from my Malta Air War collection. JU-88 A4 - III / KG54 Totenkopfgeschwader, based in Bergamo Italy, 1943. The Dragon kit has its issues, I remember the clear parts being most of the problem! The ease of build wasnt helped with the addition of an Eduard and Verlinden cockpit sets. Koster Aero Enterprises props & True Detail wheels also used. Hope you enjoy. Stephen
  18. I like it! Very nice build & finish. Glad you didnt bin it.
  19. Very nice subject & done well! Must do my 1/48 version... one day
  20. Thanks for all the comments. The kits OK you just have to accept it for what it is. Yes the glazing was undersized & only just touched the fuselage sides. Some fit issues with the lower wings also. But its an injected 1/48th kit of an Albacore! Who would have ever thought we would see one. You can't help but like Czech limited run kits for the subject choices. Cheers Stephen
  21. Hi All, Special Hobby 1/48 kit, 828 Squadron Hal Far, Malta , 1942. Torpedo from the Barracuda kit (why sell a kit of a torpedo plane and not supply a torpedo?)Part of my Malta air war collection & also fits into my FAA theme. Hope you enjoy. Prop-nut
  22. Thanks for loading the pics. I'll dig out a tutorial or something! The models a few years old now, but it got me hooked on FAA subjects. Once Ive got the uploading sussed I'll do my Albacore & Swordfish. Cheers Stephen

Cheers Stephen (Prop-nut)
  24. Lovely Lizzy, especially like how you did the "black" undersides - nice use of shading.
