Very tidy solution - and it might fit for aligning tail planes on other models too?
Yes it would, this one would fit most light aircraft, it would be easily adapted for larger tails and angled tails would be very easy too.
Anyway results are much better than the previous attempts to fit this tail
Looking like a Traumahawk now!

Looks lovely Mark, nice catch but I would have expected nothing less from you mate.
As I have a whole 45 minutes of Tommy time in my mental logbook I will enjoy flying down memory lane with you.
It was a lovely little thing to take from the Birmingham airport flying club courtesy of a Birthday Present flight, "hang back 'til that 737 has gotten a bit further away then skip down the runway to the other one"
"OK take her up"
Unforgettable.
Only sub 20hrs on the Tommy Bomber. I did my IMC rating in one at Welshpool in 1998 and only touched one again once since to do a instructor renewal in 2005

Nice recovery with the wings and Lego jig!
I'm quite a fan of Pipers, completed the PPL on PA28s

I’ve no knowledge of the the P38 at all, but it looks a pretty little aeroplane - and seemingly sits significantly in the logbook of esteemed BM’ers various …. Mind you I bet it’s got a ‘orrid yoke thingy instead of a proper control interface
Nice work Mark.
The only stick on them is to put the flaps up & down, You'll love the elevator trim system, no tab, an adjustable spring instead!

No copyright if I don't see it.
I've been trying for a couple of days to get the tail plane on. it just has some small pins moulded in the tail planes that fits in a hole in the top of the tail. I Had no luck getting these either straight or to stay on. something else had to be done.
Now I have a 3D printer I've found it very useful for making jigs for particular jobs very accurately and quickly. 10 mins or so on TinkerCad, set the Printer going crack open a beer and get on with something else. In an hour or two you have a purpose made jig
Also serves my OCD in things being straight. Once I know something isn't right I cant leave it alone and ignore it. so this helps.
So I need something a bit stronger up in the top of that T tail, a bit of brass rod.
Because I cant drill a straight hole to save my life I need...youve guessed it the first jig
Slot the tail in, slot the drill in the hole and turn, the hole is the right place and dead centre top to bottom to. then do the same with the other tail
Yes I know I didnt do a very good job of washing the resin off before it went in the UV curing box.
2 holes
And poor focus, but you get the idea.
Brass rod CAed into one tail plane
Which will go through this hole
That darn focus again!
Now another jig to keep it all at right angles, this clips onto the tail and has slots for the tail plane.
Then slot the other tail plane in and leave it to set
All nice and straight and OCD satisfied!
Need to do some filling next,
I was thinking of trying the 3D printers resin as a filler after reading it being used by @Bertie Psmith Avro Vulcan build (Page9)
Cockpit soon!

Most importantly, the extended starboard intake as found on the the FB.9 and many FB.5's are on the sprue, this is good news indeed!
Ah so that's what it's for. Was looking at that part and wondered about it.

Will be interesting to see if the decals have the stencils in Norwegian text (as the operational aircraft had), or in English (like on the repainted Vampire at Gardermoen). That is, for those who care.... 😉
Afraid not

Bit of a start and glued the wing on and aligned the wing very carefully in the fuselage recess. All looks good tail is vertical but I then noticed the wing is not at a right angle.
When measured it is just 0.85° off but very noticeable, As it was freshly CA'd together it came apart quite easy.
A bit more filing and a Lego jig later the wing is now setting again
Wingtips are at the same water line or at least within half a mm
tail vertical
I think that will do I'll leave it to set, as its nearly lunch time!
Need to clean up the TE on that rudder I think too.

Some old models or guide-book for modelers. But exactly?... I think I could see these pictures '80s in Poland. So maybe Novo models or polish producer ZTS Plastyk (Yak-1, RWD-5 PZL-37 Los and another) or maybe in these book:
(Plastic airplanes models building) published 1984 @GrzeM or @hadzi could you help?
Best regards,
Michał
Sorry it was a sarcastic comment I was making socjo I already knew the answer 🤑 They are from the Novo instruction sheets:-

Next kit from the stash I think is going to be this Lift here models 1:72 Piper PA38 Terrorhawk
Nice box artwork
Hmm I wonder where I've seen those images on the side of the box before ????
This will be my first resin kit although I have done lots of casting and adding resin parts in the past this will be my first full kit
Parts look very well moulded and sharp with a vacformed canopy.
Instructions are a bit basic and the decals look very nice and also sharp but they wont be used, I have other plans for the markings.
Here is my subject, this is the first aircraft I ever got my grubby mitts on, I did a 30min trial lesson in it from Manchester airport in 1990, then I was hooked and started saving to learn to fly and never had any money since!
Thats not me by the way.
Its going to be a small model, here it is compared with the model world standard yard stick, a calibrated 1:72 Spitty
But now its time for more wine and TV so will start it in a day or so

Very neat
A friend of mine was a First Officer on the 146 with Brussels around that time so He may well have flown you.
I have this kit in the stash and intend to complete it as a Logan Air example as I flew in G-OLCB in the late 80s, Had a few trips in G-MIMA to and from the Isle of Man also.

And finally in tribute to the Airfix team I've made the missing axle stands that they didn't complete on the undercarriage (see earlier in this thread)
Tinkercad tinkering
3D printing & painting
A bit of modelling
And thats wrap folks!

Airfix DH Mosquito B.XVI
Almost OOB but with corrections as the kit was modelled on Cosford's TT35
Bomb bay rear fairing corrected with Milliput and doors smoothed out to remove the detail that shouldn't be there
Position lights from drilled holes, foil, clear colours and UV glue
Tail wheel modified with strips of plasticard to represent an anti-shimmy tyre
Carburettor Ice guards from a 3D printed frame and fine wire mesh.
Painted with MRP paints with an Ebay after market mask set.
Humbrol matt cote to finish.
WIP thread is here
And now on to the pictures
And as a special tribute to the Airfix research team who couldn't tell where the undercarriage leg ends and where the axle stand it sits on at Cosford begins I've added the missing axle stands😆
See WIP thread for details.
Thanks for looking

Have been trying for around 2 weeks to get the oval ice guard to print but unsuccessfully so I'm going to use the first one that seemed to print successfully, don't know why they worked but they did.
Sprayed MRP Med sea gray then attached with Gator grip.
Wheels also went on a few days ago so I think I'll call this complete.
I'll get some picture taken and make a post on the Ready for inspection area soon
Thanks for looking and have a good evening
CT
And BTW if I ever get those damn oval ice guards to print in the future I might replace them but I wont be getting an 8K printer anytime soon! 🤑

Why didn't they standardise the front screens as flat for every mark of Mossie?
I would expect like most things in aviation weight & cost. Don't add more of either if it isn't really needed for a particular application.
The flat windscreen would have been more difficult to produce so costly, and was probably a lot heavier.

Shortest shot in the whole short history shots that are short shot on a camera with a short lens.

It probably didn't go any where near the QA dept and took a short cut.

More evidence that where as Airfix know how copy reduce and accurately make a kit of an `object` but they dont know jack about it.

I would have thought the place for quality checks would have been the factory!
Probably done there too bit I think Hornby would like to do their own once the shipment is received as they are the customer of the moulding company.

Still no luck getting the back frame of the snow guard to print, think I just have to accept the fact its just too thin. so need to go back to fusion and change a few things. and thicken up a few areas.
Attention today in the Tuesday modelling window went to finishing the tail wheel.
Masked up and coat for Alclad Dull aluminium.
Right the big question is where the (insert chosen word here) is my Molotow Chrome pen, I want to do the oleo!
after fruitless search, its going to have to be a bit of baremetal foil
cut a strip of 0.5mm x 2mm to wrap around and after several attempts and needing to cut new strips I finally got it in place.
I've already sprayed the mainwheels, just need to weather them a little before putting them on.
Might have another go with Fusion 360 tonight.

Very nicely done, great weathering too.
You might want to ask the mods to move this to the ready for inspection section though.

While I'm still working out how to mount the snow guards, and possibly may change them to a more oval shape (there seems to be 2 types).
This is the rear mount for the oval guards and Im having trouble getting it to print the vertical parts, the gauge of the frames is no less than the previous one, I'll keep tying different settings and maybe thicken up the vertical parts.
Attention has turned to the tail wheel and its lack of anti-shimmy shape.
I've cut a length of 0.5mm wide strip from 0.125mm plasticard and wrapped two lengths of it around the end of the tyre glued with TET quick set.
The edges were then blended with the tyre with thin CA and its self levelling properties to smooth out.
After a little sanding smooth, Ive given it a coat of MRP tyre rubber.
Not perfect but probably better than it was.
Aluminium paint next.

Nice work. What's mesh are you using?
I'm using this from Ebay I bought maybe 5 years ago, not sure what gauge I have, might be 200 but I really cant remember.
https://www.ebay.co.uk/111485649556
I sprayed the 0.15mm frames & mesh MRP Med sea grey, didnt use a primer as I' dont want to risk bridging the gaps in the mesh.
These are only test pieces as they have started to separate and one of the frames has a split. Maybe CA is not flexible enough, I used Gator grip on the 0.3mm frames and that seems to have worked better, will try again tomorrow.
Today is just seeing how they look, still need to work out how to mount them too as white tack will not be the way to go. Maybe 3D print a rear frame possibly.
Cosford Mossie again

In the scheme of things this is one of Airfix's lesser errors with this kit. One has to wonder whether any research was done other than relying on the LIDAR images.
LIDAR is King!
They could at least have released it with the Cosford decals, would have been as accurate as it gets.
Dragonfly to Widgeon. Who knows?
