  1. Great choice Dave! I think that my stalled Has cat is actually this jet as well. To check my understanding, to depict an F-14A+/B using a Tamiya kit; The F-14A boxing is the closest/best starting point for a Tamiya F-14B All the required bits (except for the engine exhausts) are included with the F-14A boxing If I were to use AM NACES seats, GE-110s and potentially an AM Sparrowhawk HUD (noting that not all F-14Bs were upgraded?) that would get me home? cheers, Pappy
  2. Ahoy mates! My entry for the SSD GB Looks like a nice kit, should be a blast cheers, Pappy
  3. G'day, Thank you Heather and Chris. I have the 1/48 ICM torpedo and dolly kit and they suggest a green mix. I like the RAF blue-grey idea as suggested by Heather for early war ground equipment and would lean towards an olive green for later. The torpedo instructions concur with what Chris has stated viz a stainless steel body and black (live) or red (exercise) warhead sections. Thanks very much for your replies, chjeers, Pappy
  4. Sorry to jump in Heather but I have a question for Chris elating to the torpedo handling dolly, what coulour would this have been? Happy for a reply as dm, again sorry to butt in, cheers, Pappy
  5. I have visited Orange a few times and while there are many words I could use to describe the place, 'Promiscuous' would not be one of them! G'day AP, from the pic provided Ithink that Emerald Green (02) is too dark and bluish, Lime Green (38) looks closer. Grass Green (80) may be an option as well (it looks a little dark and brownish in the paint catalogue) but keep in mind it is a matt colour You might also consider 208 Signal Green, cheers, Pappy
  6. NOTE - Edited to correct bad info in the original post One last thing, RAAF Hornets were unique in that they were wired to use the AIM-132 ASRAAM .later in their service life They used the standard AIM-9L /AIM-7 combination initially but by Falconer they were employing the AIM-120 in lieu of the AIM-7 which had been phased out. The kit includes AIM-9Ls and AIM-7s but you will need to get some aftermarket AIM-120s if you don't have them in the spares box. Aircrew wore desert coloured flightsuits and boots with standard green speed jeans over the top, cheers, Pappy
  7. G'day Jabba, Note that RAAF Hornets underwent two HUGs, Op Falconer was around HUG1.0. PM sent but basically you need the swept type upper and lower VHF/UHF antennas, IFF array in front of the windscreen and the 'dummy' launch bar plus the early style small radome GPS antenna. RAAF Hornets were A/B models that were essentially upgraded to C/D standard. They only had the single pair of forward pair of ECM blisters (a single antenna immediately behind the radome) rather than the double pair that were a feature of the C/D and laced the pair located on the dorsal spine. The LEX fences were added very early on and all jets had these by Op Falconer. One other feature that was present in conjunction with the LEX fences were the three fin reinforcing ribs at the base of each fin (on the inner side of each). These ribs were not present of the C/D models as the fin structure was beefed up to dispense with the requirement for the external ribs but they retained the LEX fences. USN/USMC Hornets used different seats, the differences were slight and mainly concerned the upper hardness assembly, I doubt this will be noticeable by anyone in 1/72 but if you want to be absolutely correct they used the SJU-9 seats (SJU-10 and SJU-9 on the twin seat vice the SJU-5. This mod is pretty simply, simply cut-off the T piece at the end of the moulded on launch bar and file flat. The various fin doubler panels were fitted on a case by case basis and this was post OP Falconer anyway. cheers, Pappy
  8. Glen, I think you have really nailed it, the balance of the various shades is just right. The sculpture is a great likeness and the only area that lets it down (slightly) is that the eyes look slightly more startled than smouldering (not anything to do with your skills), but criticism that is only in a direct comparison with he reference picture, Luv it! Pappy
  9. G'day Glen, Lovely work and what a great idea to paint in greyscale in keeping with the movie theme.I am curious to know what colour(s) you used for the greyscale flesh tones. It is a very washed out colour but still slightly warmer shade than white? cheers, Pappy
  10. Lovely and well deserved silver. About the only thing missing are the pitot/static probe covers and a static lead, these would have been added almost as soon as the jet shut down cheers, Pappy
  11. I think that he feet look too small Pappy
  12. Happy as a pig in er, whatever it is that pigs wallow in! Thanks Dennis, I had a blast, cheers, Papppy
  13. G'day people, Unfortunately I won't be able to finish in time. I would like to thank the mods for a great GB. No need to feel bad for me though, I managed to get very close to the real things yesterday, Plus lots of other great stuff, cheers, Pappy
  14. G'day people, I managed to squeeze in some plastic time today. I have started to add the dark blue The 65th used a very tight soft edge which in 1/72 would be difficult to replicate freehand (for me anyway) so I am using the worms method. I was able to do the wraparound section on the nose Some minor overspray but otherwise happy, but I am less happy with this section which will need re-doing The decal sheet diagram is a little small and so it makes picking out the various 'landmarks' a little tricky but still, no excuses, a poor tradesman and all that. I will keep plodding away until I head off but this will not make the deadline unfortunately, cheers, Pappy
  15. Well, it does not look like your first time 1/48 kit, looking forward to the finished kit. PE belts can look excellent, it is one of the applications which really suits PE but using PE is not always easy. Good luck with your next attempt in case you want to try cheers, Pappy
  16. G'day Rich, Very tidy work so far. I am a little curious though why you chose to use the Hasegawa pod (which you say is not the best) when you have at least three resin pods to choose from? cheers, Pappy
  17. Very tidy work Ernest, I especially like your decals, they have been applied perfectly, cheers, Pappy
  18. Steve is correct, the combiner glass is actually clear. The green look is fromthe reflected graphics when operating. It can also partially reflect the HUD lens itself when seen from some angles so you may get a partial disc. Painting the lens clear green is not accurate for a HUD in OFF mode, cheers, Pappy
