Thanks for the kind words. I find myself heavy handed too with the pre-shading. This time I went lighter on the base colour. I alway find that when the gloss cost goes on, the colour turn out darker. Will see what happens this time. I just touched up the upper camo this evening, so I've lost some of my pre-shading already!!! Arrhhh.... Thanks again for the kind words. Moe

I'm still at it.... My other GB has finished, so I'm back to the 109. Here's a shot of the upper wing/tail camo.

Quick question on BF109E & F during the Siege. (I think "E"'s were used.) Were these all fitted with tropical filter for their respective variants? I'm trying to finish off my BF109Fs and notice that the profile that I'm following does not show a filter. If I need to add the filter, it would be easier at this stage in construction before the major camo goes on. (I don't have a pic of the actual AC, just the profile from Osprey's 109 aces of the Mediterranean. Colour profile #42 - pg 47) TIA Moe

Me too!!! I'm still on my first build!!!

Quick update. RLM 78 going on the under surface. Working on my preshading, trying to get the just the right amount of coverage to have the shading peak through. I know the lighting is not the best in these pics. When I have the top camo on, I'll get my setup to take better pictures. Comment are always appreciated. Please share what you do with preshading multiple colours camo, espeically along the demarcation lines. Thanks for looking Moe

Hello Everyone, Don't know it this goes here, but here goes. I'm building a BF109F based at Comiso, Sicily - Feb. 1942 (Ref: Osprey BF109 Aces of N. Africa and the Mediterranean -pg47 plate 42) I only have a side view to work from and my question is the spinner colour/marking. Is it half white/half black or three-quarter black- one-quarter white or three quarter white and one quarter black? Did these spinner colours/markings mean anything in terms of rank or aircraft role? TIA Moe

Thanks, they are 1/48. Moe

My Wings are on!!!! yippee!!! It's taken me since my last post to glue halves and sand seams, and rescribe some panel lines. I had a mishap!!! My right wing top is damaged beyond salvage. So, what I've done is CA a sheet of plastic on top of the bottom half and hope that it will do for the other "F". I hope in the next few days (weeks) to get the little bits done and start adding some colour. Not much to show in the pics. This is not a bad kit. I'm enjoying my build and contemplating getting a couple more at the swap meets. They're fairly inexpensive and a lot of fun to build. Moe

Nice Work. Like the idea of the misting of the sand over the pink. Must try that. As far as I'm concern. Your Mk IIa began as a Mk I, with really the exception of the different engine. So what's a few millimeters (scale wise) amongst us modellers... Moe

Oh... I see... I have heard and tried one of Delia's recipes - tomatoes and anchovies. Haven't made that in a long time. Maybe, tonight I'll put the fuselage together on the Friedrick and then start sanding the seams tomorrow. (Please don't shut-up, it's sharing of culture. My auntie, lives in London and now I do recall her saying something about the stove setting, #1, #2...) I'll post more pics, after this Easter weekend of my progress. Moe

Man!!!! Do you guys build fast!!!! Great work!!! I like the "Porky Pig". What is this crafty paper you used? Gas Mask 5? I have not heard of any of these term on this side of the Pond. Great work! Moe

Here's what I've been up to. Both "Friedrick" are almost the same construction. * Critiques are welcomed. (I don't build alot of Germany A/C and would like to improve on my building skills) Enjoy. More to come later this week. Moe * Apr. 3

Hello Everyone, I'm in with two BF 109F's. Both A/C are from Airfix. Markings I'll decide as the build goes. (I hope that is acceptable.) All set and ready to go!!!! Moe

Hello, Here's something that might steer you in the right direction. I've been researching these variants also. Bf 109F-4/Z How this helps. Are you planning on scratch building any of the parts that you might need? Best of luck. Moe
-
Sure!!! I follow all that.... Ok, so now I have to look for the emblem of the respective units. Thanks Moe

WOW!!! great work. Yeh.... I know about the 1/72 scale smoke rings. (the might be out of production too... [i'll have to check]) But, I have an airbrush..... I have thought of making stencils. We'll see. I'll await more info on the "F" in camo. What about the pic a few post up with the green mottling, is that an "F" in Sicily? Stuka's I found a pic of one that was flown by the Italian AF with no markings, except for the white cross on the tail and unit emblem on the landing gear spat. (I think that is what they were called.) That might be a possibility if I can find the emblem. Thanks Moe

I just returned from a model show over here in Canada, and guess what... I found some "Pik A" emblems, BF 109-G6 and G14, some hurricane Mk1, and a M.C. 202. (All 1/72) So, here my next question. What fighter unit did the Italians have over in Sicily? Smoke rings in 1/72... I must be crazy!!!!! What I'm most interested in are BF109(F) in desert camo. Can I back dated a BF109G-6 to an F? So many questions!!!! Thanks to all for taking the time to answer.

Thanks you so much for this information. I'll have to scour the world for these decals sheet. I've checked on ebay...., but... Are the two decals sheet what you have mentioned, by any chance RARE?!!! Thanks again. Moe
-
Thank You!!!! Thank You!!! COOL!!! Now I have ac type, how do I find out about markings and camo patterns. Thanks again Moe
-
Hello everyone, My research material is very limited when it comes to Axis aircraft. Some where in the Malta GB posting there is a list of ac, but do not tell you what units used those ac during the campaign. I'm interested in what decals sheet (aftermarket) in 48 and 72 would carry marking for Me109E4/7or F-2, F-4, Stukas JU87B/R, Me110 (new Airfix '72) {basically that's my collection of Axis ac} Thanks for any help Moe
