No. 457 Sqn. RAAF A58-466 ZP*H
CanadaMoe replied to CanadaMoe's topic in Australian and New Zealand Group Build
Quick update. Nothing special. Scratch built, oxygen bottles, add lower armor plate and seat belts and "wire" tension cable -
Just a quick update before heading off to the paint booth. Scratch built the tail support brackets, they might be a bit thick, I don't think the 1/72 Hasegawa kits came with the brackets.

Thank you, Peter for your assistance with this build. The pictures you have posted will help immensely with this build. Thank you for sharing. I will go with a red spinner as it was a Flight Commander's aircraft. Thanks Again Moe -
Hello,
I changed my ANZAC group build subject to No. 457 Sqn. RAAF A58-465 ZP*H.
I'm going to continue on with the same post, I've changed the title and content.
I'm hoping this subject will be better suited for the build.
Thank You
Moe

I have since changed the subject of my build. See above for new subject. -
Just another update, but I think this is more for me. I used some spreader to push the lower half out so I wouldn't have much of a step to deal with.

(Let me try again.) I'd like to join with an RAAF Spitfire Mk. VIII ZP * H at the time when it was flown by Flt/ Lt Dick Due Roundels will come from decal stash, "ZP * H will be cut from Silhouette cutter (I might cut the roundels too - we'll see.) and "A58-466" will be printed on a laser printer. Reference: 1) Peter Malone (See post below.) 2) http://www.adf-serials.com.au/2a58.htm

Another update I want to do something about the blank engine intake on the kit. So, I created some "turbine blades" and stick it inside. They were quite easy to do, as can see from the posted picture. The plastic tube was created by wrapping sheet plastic around a copper pipe, tying it down with some fishing line and submersing in hot boiling water and letting it sit. I did it twice to make sure the plastic would form over the pipe. The "blades" were scribe on a plastic disc and a black wash was applied after painting. NOTE: They are not to scale or representation. I just want to fill the space in the huge space on this kit.

Thanks for the reply, Sierra. I'm to go ahead an assume that Canadian CF18/188 used them in ODS. I might do a bombing load out, since the Hasegawa kit comes with a pair of VERs and I have a second kit where I can get a second pair. Thanks again. Moe

Is this a VER? What is DER?

Thanks everyone for your kind word. My son is very excited to receive those comments. (Now, look what you people have done!!! He's getting into my stash now!!! Thanks!!!)

Just a quick update.... Trying to fill in some sink marks, re-contour the spine of the Hornet and clean up the parts. I guess a a result of multiple versions and the use of fuselage plugs, there was a mismatch of the spine. Still haven't decided on load out, either CAP or Bombing mission. Moe

Hello Everyone, I'd like to join with a CF-18 and Leading Edge decals 72.87 I've read there's not much of a (backdate) conversion from am F-18C to (C)F-18A 1) Tail fins lack an extra RWR antenna. (The kit has the A tail, as show in my picture.) 2) Search Light - I have to drill out and blank out. 3) MLG oleo, if someone can shed some light here I'd appreciate it. (Some online references would help.) 4) Bird slicers - I'd have to find picture of the particular aircraft I'm going to build. (As of now, I have not decide which cat to build.)

Disaster has struck. Finished spraying the Olive Drab (ANA 613) using my cut out vinyl mask and the glue from the backing stuck all over the model!!! Arrrrhhhhh!!!!! I manage to use IPA to get off most of the glue. Then light sanding to further clean up. Resprayed the light grey, topside "ocean grey", cut out new mask on painters tape this time and sprayed the OD green. Gloss coated, and applying decals. -

Quick update, cockpit is done. So much for OOB, from my research early spitfires had the hand pump landing gear lever, so I added one. Also, my first attempt at adding an oxygen bottle behind the pilot seat. (I think it could be longer. - no hose this time...) I reshaped the rear portion of the wing, didn't take much sanding at this scale. I used the Airfix spitfire as a guide. (sorry no pic, but the trailing edge has to be thinned down a bit after reshaping.) I'm learning lots about early spitfires; Cockpit configuration Types of seats. Seat armor. (I chose not to put in any seat armor on this one, although the seat is the plastic type.) Types of canopies. Can someone answer a question for me... The (old) tamiya kit has two outward guns protruding, should these two guns be cut off and holes drilled out? -

Hello Everyone, Calling this bird done. Ex Israeli Spitfire, sold to Burma around 1954-55 All markings and codes were cut from vinyl and painted. Colours uses: Tamiya: XF26, XF64 and XF23 I left some sink marks unattended, except for the ones along the upper wings. In hindsight... This ICM spitfire was not (too) challenging a build, had to test fit a lot. This was my first ICM, have a couple more in the stash. After this one, I know what to expect.- 110 replies
