    Cheers Pat

Well, at least you have a completely genuine and realistic loadout of 4 Martels to sling under it, I cant forsee any issues getting off the deck.....

So... Jaguars you say? Well, I have several in the stash of the 48th kind, 3x KH, 1x Revell, 1x Heller and all with specifics as to schemes and stuff.
I'll make you all a deal - If the GB goes ahead then I too will go ahead and actually finish something!

Chuck me name on the list, please!

  2. I'm sure I read that the exposed tyre is what prevents use of an inboard Maverick missile on the triple rack as it would fry the tyre upon launch, hence only 4 rather than 6 missiles are the maximum load for an A10.

Does anyone know if there has ever been an aftermarket conversion set to make the Indian maritime version, in any scale?

Yes, in 1/48 too but the name escapes me right now. I think I made a thread when I started building mine so it may be mentioned in there

  5. Yep, you read that correctly, the Airfix 48th Tornado. Why? Because I have it around 80% complete and the Revell jobby will take me an age to throw together.

Intentions are to have it in flight, low level over a blured desert backdrop with magnets for JP233, LGBs and wing tanks so they can be changed around.

But I have few questions, if I may, that I think you lovely lot can help me with rather efficiently:

1: Decals. I see the Printscale 48040 set that is very comprehensive with white stencils included and the Kitsworld KW148126 set that is half the price but without white stencils. Any thoughts on these or any others with particular thought re the shark mouth fitting the Airfix kit properly and stencil requirements?

2a: Cockpit.... Is there any aftermarket or did noone see the point for this kit?

2b: Seats with crew. The best way of going about this? Kit seats and crew with tape belts? Is aftermarket really worth it here?

3: Fuel tanks. Am I right in thinking that in the early days of the conflict they flew with the smaller tanks with the JP233 and later with the LGBs they switched to the larger F3 tanks?

4: Magnets. 1x1mm will do the job? I was thinking 2 magnets per bomb and per tank, 4 for the 233s? Any links would be great.

5: Mounting the thing. Steady now... I was thinking predrilled perspex rod up the exhausts with some fairly heavy Tig welding wire down the centre, bent down to a predrilled picture frame base. Sensible? Or are there better/easier ways bearing in mind the kit is about 80% complete?

This is for a 17th birthday, in 4 weeks time, so any help (or abuse) is welcome, as always

Hi Thanks for the great comments.  It was transparent decal sheets.  For my second AAR Jaguar I tried as recommended, I sprayed the decal and model with gloss varnish and they seemed to come out better!!  II(ac) no surely has to be a 41 seek and destroy.  If the kittyhawk is a T-Bird I might be tempted.  The filler issue is that the Vallejo acrylic dried slowly but didn't bond to the model and came out if sanded

There is a T Bird from Kittyhawk, but the company has gone under, so you might want to grab one while you can as they will soon be extremely rare as per their GR offering

The Hase comes with the smaller tanks only and two Sky Shadow pods, as well as JP233's - the RoG has both small and Hindenburg tanks, UK LGB's, Alarm missiles and a Sky Shadow / BOZ combo which was the main operational fit.

Plus it is generally available, while thd Hase is not a kit I've seen on the shelves in a while, and usually about half the cost of the Hase.

    Cheers,

    Andre

That makes a lot of sense, thank you

    Thanks Mick

I wanted an early Jag and obviously with Recce Pod had to be 41 Sqn, and personal preference!  I googled and brought some A4 Decal transfer paper, printed them out, but I think my printer does not put down a thick enough coating as when I put them on the model the paint showed through so had to put 3 on top of each other.  Hopefully someone on here knows a better way???  The in flight one I'm building going to follow advice on here and put a gloss coat on before decals

    Dave

First off - really nice Jag. The kit is not the friendliest and filler is definitely required. You said you had issues with the filler, did you sand it or remove excess with a damp cotton bud etc before it dried? The latter can be a life saver.

As for decal printing - did you use transparent sheets? They can be exactly as you described your experience. White stuff can be a lot better but obviously requires some very careful cutting out.  I feel your pain there as I want some Typhoon Ii (Ac) sqn markings and the printer is my only hope...

Top work, though. If you fancy a really serious Jag challenge, check out the Kittyhawk offering.... 😉

Hi RMP2, thanks for checking in,

I'm glad you enjoyed the project build and am very grateful for your kind comments throughout the build.  I certainly wish you well with your own GR1/GR3 build and sincerely hope that any trials/workarounds etc Kev and I have managed to highlight on here will prove helpful, certainly looking forward to seeing your own build progress if you are looking post it here.

As you may have seen in Kevs last post dated 17 Nov 22 (including some photos of the finished Jaguar Diorama), he moved house shortly after I'd finished the model and handed it to him.  He's had a busy time since then so may not have had chance to take more photos yet as he'd planned (for loading up to the 'Ready for Inspection' area on here, I'm sure as soon as he get the opprtunity he will.

    All the best for now,

    Boltcropper

Aaah! I somehow missed the finished diorama. Needless to say it's looking not too bad...  rather more bloomin incredible. Really liking the cleanliness of the aircraft in particular which ties in with the clean detailing.

I'm on my phone right now, but look forward to getting on the PC and seeing the images in more detail along with the RFI post - I do hope time is found to photograph and post such.

Thank you re my own build. Ot would be my second KH GR and have both their 2 seater and a French A to go at... it will be hell, no doubt about it!

Following on from Kev’s latest post and supporting photos of the completed diorama, I’d like to say few words.  Starting back in early 2019, this project has taken three years to complete, it has been the most technically detailed and difficult model project I have ever undertaken.  However, it has been an amazing experience and has taught me much.

I’m very grateful to everyone in the group who has followed the build, the encouragement, interest and supportive/helpful advice you have provided throughout has been very much appreciated. Your contributions have been immensely helpful and fundamental in achieving the final results you see in the photos.

It goes without saying that the excellent quality photos taken by Kev from the start documenting every aspect of this build not only helped me as the builder but have provided an amazing and detailed insight for anyone new to Britmodeller just discovering the build.  I hope you have all enjoyed the project and I’d like to say a huge thank you each and every one of you!

    Boltcropper.

    Any more news?
I ask not just to see more of this amazing build but also for a little more inspiration having just picked up another, now rare, KH GR1/GR3....

  11. I really wasn't sure where to post this but seeing the stand that's included with the Hasegawa 1/72 Typhoon, I had an idea.

Iwould like to have a EE Lightning and a Typhoon/Eurofighter both in flight, slightly nose up and breaking left and right. It would be as a gift so needs to be right. Both in 1/72.

I hoped you guys might be able to share experience or ideas of something off the shelf that could work with little extra work.

    Any ideas?
