  1. I am indeed; I am a lucky man in some respects...

    Head assembled.

    Actually all assembly done here.

    SW34.jpg

Time for decals. As I studied what they were to achieve and having tried the stickers I decided to continue that route, except for some details where a Molotov pen and/or ink would be better.

Here is or little friend pretty much finished. What remains is a little washing and possibly some sand dusting, but that will be for later.

    SW36.jpg

But 7 hours have now vanished. This may not be easy... I must move on with C-3PO.

  2. Assembly continues. There are both traditional decals and stickers supplied, both very well printed. I was suspicious of the stickers but the material and quality feels superb. They may have their use in some places.

Some of the hatches want to fall off, so I use a little MEK in certain places.

    First leg coming together.

    SW23.jpg

The gold/brown plastic the few small hoses are moulded in is impossibly brittle. The first broke at once on removal from the sprue despite care. It would break again when I tried to fit it.

    SW24.jpg

With drilled out holes and little CA the situation was saved.

    SW25.jpg

And we have one completed leg.

    SW26.jpg

The second leg is a mirrored repeat. I was extremely cautious when removing the small hoses and drilled out the holes directly.

    He's up on his legs.

    Starting work on the head.

And the sun has just gone down, again. It just went up. I hate this part of the year; today sunrise 08:51 and sunset 15:00 and what's more it's cold and even a little snow. Winter is not for me! Luckily I'm inside and can put more wood on the fire...

  3. I thought I'd start with R2-D2. There are an awful lot of parts... Then, after I had taken that photo and started, I remembered that R5-D4 is also included. But he will not figure in this build, so remove half of the parts. There are still a lot of parts...

    SW10.jpg

I need the instructions for this...

    SW12.jpg

It's all supposed to be snap fit and the parts seem complex but very well engineered with excellent fit.

    SW16.jpg

The instructions are also complex and I have to study every step, and sometimes search for where the next step appear on the sheet...

    SW17.jpg

The main body is together with the centre leg moving nicely. Time for a break.

Coffee and ham sandwiches with strong mustard. That means company, Chi-Chi wants ham.

  4. First the base as it will take a long time to dry. They will have to settle together on the smaller 15 cm plate. I masked off the edge with 3 mm tape then covered up the rest and spread a layer of white wooden glue.

    SW6.jpg

Poured sand on and pressed down, then shook off most of the loose.

    SW7.jpg

I wetted the surface with heavily diluted glue, poured another round of sand and shook off all the loose.

    SW8.jpg

From earlier experience I know how all but impossible it is to remove the masking later, so I did it now. This is now on the warm top shelf in the living room beside the fire place to dry out.

Well, Santa came up with something interesting today, apparently he had a good look around my stash and thought this would be a nice addition. And it is, I like it 🙂

Fits right in with the growing collection of American stuff.

Nice! I built that one as a kid in the mid 70's. Brush painted the red with Humbrol 19. I thought it looked great.
