Indeed. It's looking good so far.
Thanks a lot! I hope I can wrap it up before time runs out tomorrow...

They need to come from somewhere, so I measured and scratched some tracks after R2-D2.
Then he was glued with three blobs of 5 min epoxy, that now seems to take longer than usual to harden. Not a good sign, and I think I have missed out completing my stock with a new round...
I had to sand off all the detail under C-3PO's feet to make him stand firmer on the ground. I should have thought of that earlier, but it worked out OK.
Scratched in some footsteps and filled in those and the tracks in with a little paint.
Did some more weathering, then masked their eyes as there will be some spraying later.
And then C-3PO was glued with the same epoxy. When that was done I realized I should have pinned him to the base as I do with other figures. Well, it is what it is now, hopefully the epoxy will harden with a little extra time. I'll give it a little rest now, there's still a long way to 10:30...

C-3PO is more time consuming. First I sprayed a little random patches with Alclad Copper, Brass and Pale Burnt Metal to add a little variation and tone the glare down o bit. Then a lot of black washing which will dry a little before more work can be done.

Starship Filth. Right. Bought man years ago for a Millennium Falcon I have yet to start...
This is going quicker than I thought. But I don't really know what I'm doing now...
"It's all your fault!"
I think I can get away using the fixed arms on C-3PO. I do like them and their actuators much better.
And yes, it's PM, the cardboard stopped working there...

Now that's the right attitude! Cut it apart and correct the length! Great stuff!

Smashing progress! Looks great to me as a not-car-modeller.

Thanks a lot! For so little time spent up to now I'm happy with it.

The size of the base was the right choice I think.
The pattern in C-3PO's hands has been painted.
Then I added a little smoke colour to R2-D2's three lenses.
I've now made a start at removing some of the clean toy-like appearance. More of this to come as the day progress.
But now it's ham sandwich time again...

Now whistling the Star Wars theme - that'll drive everyone up the wall today
It will be a good day then

Those white stripes are a great addition, looks like it settled down well. When cut through for the doors and bonnet it'll be perfect.

The evening got late yesterday, well into night...
But now I'm back on these two at 10:30 AM. If we are left alone today as well I will let the clock tick away for another 12 hours and hope it's enough. The base is now dry and there's a lot to do...

It got late last night, but a short morning session on the GT before breakfast.
I got the polish products out, but looked at the bodyshell and then the rest of the parts; they are what they are, so I decided to go for Jeroen's thoughts above. It'll do as it is.
The tyres are a very loose fit, but I managed to balance them in position and apply a bead of CA from the rear. It worked.
The seats were glued, then I test fitted the dashboard and steering wheel. It looked empty without a gear stick, so I scratched a blob on a pin, drilled a hole, glued and painted.
As the body will do as is I glued the rear bumpers. Bare Metal foil should be the next major work I think. I also found a suitable piece of aluminium pipe to make exhaust tips later on.
That's it for now. 7:50 hours used.

Good luck, let's hope that covid-thing doesn't interrupt progress.

Sounds like a reasonably manageable Christmas after all
Those tyres are also looking very good, not what one expected from those kit parts.

Work continued...
He's got a torso, I think it's called...
Right leg started. I'm using the stickers for the knee joint cables as the surface is quite smooth.
One leg done, one to go.
The other leg is a mirror work of course.
And we have a standing Droid.
Arms are next.
There are both movable and fixed arms supplied. The fixed look better as they have all plated actuators, but it will depend how I should display the two guys. I build both.
There are also two sets of hands, and there are parts enough to complete them all. Again I build both to have options later on.
All arms are ready. I should paint the gold pattern in the palms, but I will save that till tomorrow as I'm pushing it now...
There we are. A Protocol Droid almost ready for service.
It's getting close to 12 hours here, and I'm not going to try for 24 straight hours, not after the time spent on the Opel GT in the morning. So it's a break now for the night, tomorrow work will resume, hopefully the base will be dry as well. Soon it's dinner, it's smelling good from the kitchen, and a bottle of good wine need to be opened. Maybe even watch Episode IV?

Assembly starts with the head. Stickers for the eyes.
I think our Protocol Droid is quite recognizable...
I wasted time on a little paint and wash, even though it will be covered...
Then I wasted even more time painting cables. There are stickers and decals, but no way they would conform to the complex surface...
Cornflakes in chocolate, goes well with the wine. Luckily the brownish plastic is soft and forgiving in this kit. Probably what it should have been in R2-D2 as well...

Oh, compared to the stress we opted out of years ago this is relaxing...

R2 looks great!
To be sure, you do realize you have 24 hours of build time per build, right?
Yes, I think so, but this may still be tight even in 2x12, the clock is ticking...

I was hoping to see one more Eindecker, but enjoy your company and dinner! Merry Christmas to all!

Again very many parts. They all look so well made. But if that brownish plastic is as brittle as it was in R2-D2 it may not be all fun...
No chance without a lot of instructions.
And wine, we must not forget the wine...

I put another session in this one while the other clock is still rolling...
First the small decals for the wheels and the dashboard.
Very well printed and both fit and behaved nicely.
Then a start on the foil work. Not the most fun work in the world, but it must be done.
I did the front and rear bumpers and the door handles.
More foil work remains but I'm stopping this session after an hour. 8:50 hours used.
