This is looking really good. Masking is a pain, but some good advice I got was to spray a little of the colour you have masked (to fill in all the holes) before you paint the colour you want on the unmasked areas. Adds a little in drying time, but saves a lot of hassle. There is nothing more depressing than finding a lot of tidy up required! Great work with the decals. I think you could be right about the P&W logo, although the bird is flying the other way on the plane. Does that mean P&W have a logo for each side, so that the bird is always flying forwards? Seems plausible. cheers Grant

That Sotch-Cal stuff looks terrific. I have used foil and glue before which look OK and I had trouble with Bare Metals Foils stuff as it always creased when I pulled it off the backing. I must admit I do like eating the chocolate to get the foil though!! Good luck with the decals - I see you have cut the wing fence off already. cheers Grant

Here is my second F-86 for this GB. It is the new Aifix kit, with Aerodecal decals and homemade masks from a scan of the PM wing decals kindly supplied by Tony. Painted with Halfords grey undercoat, Alclad Aluminium and Humbrol enamels. Enjoy.

Well after a brief holiday, and a couple of weeks glued to the telly watching the Olympics I have finally got around to thinking about modelling again. (and spotting that the board had changed!!) So on with the masking for the flying surfaces. I printed off Tony's scan of the decals, scaled correctly, and cut out the red bits. Then traced the outline onto masking tape stuck to the bench. Not exactly consistent wing to wing or upper to lower but it should do the trick. First, as the fin is white, it all got a coat of white so that all the red look the same hue. The on with the red and the black anti-glare panel. The reveal didn't go that well. Some of the Alclad peeled off (Doh!) and the edges to the red are a bit thick in places. But with some touch up and juditious positioning of decals just about recovered it. Though I think it is definitely a model that looks better the further you are from it! It certainly looks very colourful and I hope you like it. It has certainly been an enjoyable and colourful GB. We must do this again some time. cheers Grant

The 339 was a long time ago now, but I suspect it followed the F-86 format - wings and fuselage together for painting and tailplanes on just prior to decalling. cheers Grant

OK! Some progress. Haven't bothered with lots of 'construction' shots, as they are the same as my other F-86. So here are a few showing the common filling rubbing down areas on both my F-86 kits. Very minimal really. Then here it is looking very sexy in all black. I made sure to wire wool the undercoat, then a couple of 'wet' coats of black enamel to get it really shinny... And the results is, I think, my best BMF to date, using Alclad Aluminium. cheers Grant

Wow! A third one already, and the first helicopter. Good luck with that one. I'll be interested to see which mods you decide to do. The u/c and rotor head are must dos, most are good to do and some are definitely AMS material. I have an A4 list of the changes somehwere...... The coolest paint scheme so far though. cheers Grant

Here is my Airfix 1/72nd Sabre in Frecce tricolori colours using Aerodecal decals. Mostly Humbrol enamels, with Xtracolour X123 Blue Angels blue topside and Alclad Aluminium for the BMF undersides. A quick build for me, but this new Airfix kit is well made with a lot of detail and a good fit of parts. Thanks for looking. Grant

OK. All done, and I am quite pleased with it. Like most of my models, it looks OK from a distance I think Ihave used too light a shade of green for the undersides, but I also think the decal green arrow is a bit dark But the big decal down the fuselage has gone on really well (on both sides!) You can't see and edge to the decal here - nice The eights on the nose door and fin are a bit small and a bit opaque, otherwise the decals were quite good. And finally, it looks good in formation Hope you like it. cheers Grant

Progress has slowed some what, and as for getting around to uploading photos... Anyway here it is with all the paint on and the reveal yet to come. The reveal went OK, just a few minor touch ups. I have also put some decals on. The Aerodecals are printed on a continuous film, thick by modern standards, but that is fine by me and they have settled down quite well, with some Klear underneath. It is looking good so far. Final piccies shortly. cheers Grant
