  1. Welllll, I'd quite like to take a shot from the back seat of a P-51, with a Spitfire in view off the port wing... Oh! That wasn't what you meant? Oh well have a nice day anyway. cheers Grant
  2. Next year is ETPS's 70th Anniversary and they are looking to gather together a model of every aircraft type operated by ETPS. The plan is to fill a display space and place the model donors name on a plaque. I have heard about this through a contact at ETPS and have tried contacting IPMS Salisbury about this but not heard anything from them. So I thought I had better open this out to a wider audience. Anybody out there got a model they want to donate or build for display at ETPS? I have a Word list which details the types and regs they are after. Not sure how to make it available here. But while I am trying to do that, please have a think, and let me know if you are interested. cheers Grant There we go - below is the list, current to 1991. Where there are multiple regs, only one example is required. Aircraft Date Serial numbers Airspeed A.S.10. 3. Looks like the refurb has gone well. But - no rigging? Go on - you know you want to! cheers Grant
  4. That is a pretty good mix of genres, Love the figures. cheers Grant
  5. I am sorry to be the one to say this but, for me, those panels lines and rivets are far too heavy. It looks like a die-cast. Which is a shame because the paint job looks really nice and clean and the decals look painted on. cheers Grant
  6. Well 2011 was a very slow year, so I promised myself I would get some made this year. January saw the completion of a 1/72nd Airfix Sea King, in the rather fetching Norwegian colour scheme. Spurred on, in February I went for colour again, this time the 1/72nd Eduard Weekend Edition Albatros D.V. May saw the completion of a rebuild for the archive guys at work. Somebody had dropped a scratch built balsa model of a Blackburn Bluebird, so I cleaned it up, made some new decals for the side panel and replaced the propeller. Then, I had a bit of a set back. The 1/72nd Profiline MD 500. I didn't seal the doors properly and got paint sprayed all over the inside. The cleaning attempts resulted in a broken kit. So I saved the floats and decals and will try again sometime. To cheer myself up I did a quick build of the 1/72nd Airfix Angel Interceptor. Pure Nostalgia! The I turned to aerobatic teams for even more colour. First up, in June, was a 1/72nd Airfix F-86 in the colours of the Frecce Tricolori. A rare blue sky day saw some nice photos taken. The was followed, in August, by another 1/72nd Airfix F-86, this time in Turkish 'Flying Swan' team markings. Throughout, a WNW SE5a had been moving along in the background, and October saw that finished. Come December I put the finishing touches to a 1/72nd Karaya Gloster III Schneider racer and I built a 1/72nd ESCI F-5A in the colours of the Norwegian display team the 'Flying Jokers'. I have yet to make the pole(s) for the in-flight display, but you get the idea... 9/10 for the year (when I normally only manage about 4). For 2013 it looks like: For the Grandson of someone who worked on the S.6B: 1/72nd Pavla Supermarine S.6B For the SPLASH SIG table at Telford: 1/72nd CMR Sikorsky S-38 1/72nd Hobbyboss Otter with Khee Kha Turbo conversion Happy New Year everyone cheers Grant
  7. Well it is a start I suppose - but why not in 1/72 as well? All there recent 'must have' stuff has just been too big (Nimrod in 1/72 for instance - seriously!). Who nowadays has the room, or the dosh? Bah. Humbug.
  8. Nicely done. I particularly like the under wing surface with the tape colouration, just the right amount of difference. cheers Grant
  9. Oh dear - don't let the two Squadrons at RAF Benson here you say that!! The army do not operate Merlins, but the RAF definitely do. As for UK SAR - probably AW189s, hopefully built in the UK. cheers Grant
  10. What everybody else said! That is a very good finish, that really does hit the sweet spot. cheers Grant
  11. OooH! A nice addition to the British research range available nowadays. Grant

    G-LYNX

I should get in touch with him quick! I bought a Mk7 off him 2-3 years ago, at Telford, and he went back a dug out the G-LYNX bits from his cellar and sent them over for me. To my shame I haven't finished it yet. Not the kit's fault, just me getting in the modelling doldrums and it hasn't worked it's way to the top of the pile againg yet. Anyway - he might have some left. So definitely worth an email. cheers Grant
  13. That looks like a good finish, and the photos are brilliant. cheers Grant
  14. It is painted with Humbrol enamels throughout using the colours specified in the instructions. So that makes the PC10 Humbrol 155. 8 kits! That is pretty good going. Space isn't an issue for you then Thanks Mike and Pete, glad you like it. Cheers Grant
  15. Here is my first, and probably not the last, Wingnut Wings kit - their SE.5a 'Hisso'. I don't often work in this scale, so it all looked very large, but the only problem that caused was in handling the model and not bashing it against the work bench as I turned it around. You do have to read the instructions several pages ahead, and then figure out how you are going to proceed, but essentially the kit went together very well - almost a snap fit in places. A big push to get it finished in time for Yeovilton, but made it just in time. But enough waffle, here are the pics. Any and all comments welcome. cheers Grant
  16. An interestingly long lead time, which gives me the option to plan ahead for this one. The stash already has 2 Tornados and an F-14 which I need to get on and DO something with. This looks like a perfect fit. Count me in with an attempt at a 'Shiny Two' Tornado and an Iranian Tomcat. cheers Grant
  17. Great link. I did that on an E28/39 kit and it wroks a treat, as long as you are not in a hurry. The best bit is you can change the orientation (of the really cheap tescos own foil) to get tonal changes, and even use wire wool to get a high shine. Plus it is really metal! If you can, avoid a varnish finish as that changes completely the metal effect. good luck! Grant
  18. Congrats to the winners and well done everyone. Some very colourful additions to our display cases! cheers Grant
  19. Ok. As you asked nicely. A nice one of the DVa stalking the RE8 The SE5a (good reference material) A nice close up of the Pup. For the inter war years the Brisfit and the Hind Here was my first look at a Lysander in the air And then the splendid day was rounded of with some truly unique sites Well I have seen the boxkite in the air. I have taken the photos - but I STILL don't believe it!! cheers Grant
  20. Well I am now kicking myself for not having made the effort before. There were so many firsts for me I actually filled up the camera card! And it was so civilized aswell. Most people turned up after midday (so I needn't have got up at stupid o'clock) and it wasn't that busy. I nice relaxing day getting real close to some amazing machines. I shan't fill up the site with loads of pics, but here are a couple of the stars of the show. Gene DeMarco in the RE8. Those guys at TVAL are doing some amazing stuff! And Kermit Weeks in the Albatros DVa A quite incredible sight, seeing those two in the air together. So, I will be making that trip more regularly in future and am looking forward to seeing the Comet racer in the air in October. cheers Grant
  21. Brilliant effort! As AD said a unique model, a very pretty as well. cheers Grant
  22. A terrific speed build. I didn't think you would make it! Another nice F-86 for the GB. Well done. Grant
  23. Well done to you and Anthony for getting this GB going and for building some great models yourself. The voting will be very difficult (as ever!), but it will be nice to review all the completed builds again. cheers Grant
  24. Nice one Tony. Lovely BMF and a base as well! Cracking Job. cheers Grant
  25. Glad you liked it guys. The tank decals came with the Aerodecal set (which was nice). I had it on a pole next to the Frecce Tricolouri F-86 at club night last night and the pair looked really good (even if I say so myself), though it is definitely helped by the F-86 being such a pretty aeroplane. cheers Grant
