    Silver paint & Foil

For quick results I expect several shades of Halfords silver would do, but whatever the paint, it is no match for metal. I did a quick comparison of Alclad and foil and either looks great on its own, but you can't really mix them, the foil finish is just SO completely different. In the end it depends what your are after. A quick(ish) build to place a colourful model in your cabinet - then use spray paint, or if you are after something to keep you busy and fill in those long Winter evenings you could give the foil a try. cheers Grant
  2. This is cool work John. Fibre optics is fun but, as you say, getting sufficient light to where you want it isn't always easy. I am impressed by how small you have managed to grind those LEDs. I feel a plan coming on... cheers Grant
  3. A good rendition there Tigger. Typical aircrew though, always in front of the camera! cheers Grant
  4. WOW! What a flood of responses. Thanks a lot everyone - and sorry for not specifying it was the fixed wing version I am interested in A very good link there Pat, and the 4+ book looks like it would be worth finding. I will pass all this useful gen onto the guy who is looking to make the kit. Many thanks Peeps! cheers Grant
  5. Hi Folks, Clearly we are having trouble finding colour scheme info down here. Do any of you have any colour sheme info. We are looking for an alternative to the grey/green of the kit. Does anybody have references for a brown/green black/white colour scheme. Any help greatly appreciated cheers Grant
  6. Very nice! I like the prop decals, that is a nice extra bit of detail. cheers Grant
  7. Very nice. Definitely a good looking scheme on that airframe. cheers Grant
  8. I do like the 'dirty' effect you have got there. It looks very natural. A very real looking 1/72! cheers Grant
  9. Nice looking interior Dave. I like desert camo so will keep an eye out for this one. cheers Grant
  10. Certainly a different colour scheme and a nice job with the Future. Cool Spit Don. cheers Grant
  11. Lovely looking DH4. Great finish on the prop. and suitably muddy wheels. I like it. cheers Grant
  12. Nice Puma, weathering looks really good. I must look more closely next time one comes into work, but the undercarriage looks a bit tall too me, but like the Airfix Lynx. (Apologies if the stance is really better than I think) cheers Grant
  13. OK, progress - well finished actually! Here is a close up of the rigging of the rear end. 3 separate bits of thread and a new, wooden, tailskid. Here is the finished artical, with wooden wingtip skids with black painted tamiya tape for the retaining straps. A head on view showing the nice little Aeroclub 110hp Le Rhone. A couple of overall shots. One to show just how small it really is. And finally, still a work in progress, a small part of a German airfield during 1918. Any and all comments welcome. Thanks for looking Grant
  14. I might be in... I need some motivation to get on with the Williams F1 car I started months ago. If it is not too far built already that is? The build thread and pics are here. I reckon there is still loads of work required on that one, and if the mods agree I WILL finish it during the GB. cheers Grant
  15. Good grief Doc - that is stunning. Respect! Grant
  16. WoW, that looks really smart. That paneling could look way too heavy on the white paint, but I think you have got it just right. Yet another excellent target to aim at! cheers Grant
  17. They do build into a nice model don't they. Good looking helo, it is just such a shame the instructions give the wrong info about the blade colour. I must get on and do a Naval one... cheers Grant
  18. Glad I am not the only one who gets caught out, every now and then, not thinking. The Alclad seems strange. Maybe it was just too thin a coat. I have noticed, more than with enamels, that the undercoat can make such a difference to the final look, even after a few coats. cheers Grant
  19. That looks great Peter. Love the wood effects and rigging. A very colourful addition to the display case. cheers Grant
  20. Caveats noted Mike - and I am still in the frame for a set of intakes next time you are casting. Count me in please. cheers Grant
  21. Peachy! Those harrier decals worked well. cheers Grant
  22. Err. You have got me there. I'll have to go and check - not that I have much to check with. You might just have saved the day there! cheers Grant
  23. Started the rigging. The lycra thread is so elastic there is no way it can be threaded through any holes, without a little help. A small loop of hair is used to pull it through the wing... Then some drops of CA to hold it in place and then veeeerrryyyy carefully cut off the excess and the ailerons are rigged! Now for the rudder and elevators... cheers Grant
  24. Even earlier than that Jonathan. It will be an MR.1 of 1974,75 vintage. I managed a couple of flights out of St. Mawgan when I was down there and in the Air Scouts. Smiffy - Yeah, it does look , a very graceful aeroplane. cheers Grant
  25. Scratch building a Master - that's cool! cheers Grant
