  1. I took this photograph of the first Jet Provost to be painted in Red Pelican colours in April 1963. XP550-41 is pictured on the team's line at Little Rissington shortly before participating in its first practice sortie in the new colours. Note the fancy initial tip tank artwork.
  2. Looking at the photographs I took of 13 and 39 Squadron PRs in 1962-4, it would appear that 39 Squadron must have begun using single character codes in the latter part of 1963. XH134 = A; XH168 = C; XH173 = G; XH176 = K. None of the 13 Squadron aircraft had codes.
  3. BigModeler, hopefully this will help; a rear view of XN573's diesel ejector pipe.
  4. A shot of XN512-RX, one of the CFS Aerobatic Team for 1961, at North Weald on the occasion of the team's first public display (via Aviation Bookshop). The pipe feeding the diesel can be seen poking out above the jet efflux.
  5. Following up on my earlier post, a few photographs of Dakota C.4 KN452 in the Middle East: 1. A couple of views when parked on the civilian apron at Khormaksar in the summer of 1962. Hopefully you can see the underwing serials (my photos). 2. Two photos depicting KN452 adorning the Arabian skies in the mid-sixties; one was taken low along the Aden coast and the second depicts '452 as one of a pair. C.4 KJ955, furthest away, joined the Khormaksar inventory in late-1964/early-1965 but was destroyed by a terrorist bomb in the May when parked on the civvy apron (both, Aviation Bookshop).
  6. Graham, none of the Hunters returning to Khormaksar following refurbishment at Kemble and St Athan up and until April 1964 had LAG undersides.
  7. Apologies, I screwed up the security on my images when playing with my image host. Here they are again.
  8. While getting used to using my image host, I think I screwed the security up on my image host. Apologies, here they are again.
  9. Thank you for all of your replies, much appreciate. My frustration is now over thanks to Dave Swindell's suggestion to try Smugmug. It was easy to set up and the copylink option works with no problem, five Hunter images posted on two threads. Thank you Dave.
  10. Having found a way to post images, here are the two mentioned earlier. The first two Hunters F.6s to be issued to 4 FTS at Valley were XF384 and XG274, pictured at Kemble in late 1966 awaiting their ferry pilots. I think you can see that the undersides are no longer silver-metalic and the complete aircraft seems to have been finished with a much shinier lacquer, but as I said before, I'm no expert when it comes to paints.
  11. Here are three images which I hope will illustrate the points I raised in my previous reply. 1. Hunter F.4 of the CFS Type Flight taxiing in at Kemble in March 1962. It had not long departed the paint-shop in the hangar behind and carries the short-lived scheme with the lowered cheat line. It also bore the 'tailcode' B on the nosewheel door - black on silver - and the CFS crest on the forward fuselage. This was one the last three F.4s to serve with a non-trials RAF unit. 2. I was only able to track four FGA.9s that carried the same livery; two each with 8 and 208 Squadrons in the Middle East. This view depicts XF421-C in 8 Squadron markings on the pan at Khormaksar in May 1962. The underwing tanks also received a special livery of their own. 3. The only T.7 I saw in this livery was XL619. It is seen outside a 5 MU hangar at Kemble, being prepared for a ferry flight to the Far East where I believe it joined 20 Squadron. Note the drop-top styling.
  12. I know I'm taking a chance here but exasperation has got the better of me, so my apologies up-front. I am not an aircraft modeler but I enjoy admiring the work of those that do. Frequently post appear requesting information of colours, aircraft features, markings etc. that go unanswered. During my RAF career I took several thousand photographs of all types of aircraft and would dearly wish to provide a visual answer for the forum concerned. But I just can't find a way to upload them. I read the FAQs and decided to use Fasthosts as my images source as I already have an account with them. Using FTP, I uploaded a few images to a couple of different folders and selected your 'Insert an image' option to post it. I then copied and pasted the link into single-line box that displays hit the insert button and nothing happens. Pasting the link directly into the text panel doesn't work either. If you control click on the link, it opens the correct Fasthosts folder and I can see the image in the list. As the login box is empty I can only assume that it is a security issue that is preventing the download onto your site. I hate to throw this one at you on a Sunday and hope that there is a simple answer. Thank you for your time, I'm keeping my fingers crossed and head down.
