  1. Good morning gents , i am looking at building an SR-71 in 1/72nd scale and have been looking at the available kits . Picked up an Acadamy and an Italeri off an auction site fairly cheap and compairing the two there is a considerable difference in the dimensions between them . From what i can find out on the internet the Acadamy kit is the same as the Hasagawa version . Which one is the most accurate please ? The Italeri is about half an inch shorter overall and so are the engine pods .
  2. How anybody can do that with PE is beyond me , so clean as well . I take my hat off to you
  3. Thanks Dan , i will order one and see what kind of mess i make of it ! ! Don't mind getting the filler out but i doubt it will come out as good as your builds . Might get in trouble for posting this on here but here goes , i can't find an Italeri YF-12A anywhere in 1/72nd . Can anyone help me out and point me in the direction of a kit for sale please ?
  4. Thanks for the reply Dan , i've found them on ebay today . I can only find one version though , do you use the same one for both of your resin nosed builds ?
  5. Only just found this after looking at them in the ready for inspection forum , stunning work on all four of them . I remember building one when i was a kid , brush painted in Humbrol gloss black it was ! Where abouts do you get the resin conversion kits from ? I've googled kiwi resin and did not come up with much of any use .
  6. Very nice build and weathering , i'm a sucker for a P-47 . Raydon is in Suffolk by the way
  7. Got a couple of these to build up myself so i'll be watching with interest . Have you used the Alclad varnishes before ? I used a couple a year or so ago and they took ages to dry after i had sprayed the models with them , we are talking around 5/7 days from memory . I have read of the the same sort of trouble with there gloss black .
  8. Just ordered the MA set last week ! Never mind , i've got an excuse to build some more now
  9. Thanks rav , that's a good job you have done there . I was looking at the kit this evening and thinking the same thing , it's all solid plastic in that area so there would be no need to fill and then shape it . I'll give it a go this weekend .
  10. Many thanks , now will it fit the Airfix kit ? Only one way to find that out i suppose . They do two versions of these including the one i was after , in stock at Hannant's as well .
  11. Evening gents , i've been searching the web for these conversion pieces in 1/72 scale , found this in 1/48th from Ultracast . Can anyone point me in the direction of a manufacturer in the smaller scale please ?
  12. Thanks for the fast replies , i'll keep my eyes open for a couple of the Italeri kits i think as i'm not a fan of raised panel lines . I must admit i was a bit put off the Hasagawa due to them seeming to be older kits Edit , just looked on the Hannants site and they have some re-boxed Italeri kits under the Tamiya brand , so i've got 2 on the way .
  13. Good evening gents . I am looking at getting hold of a couple of A-10's in 1/72nd scale , i've got one Hobby Boss kit but don't fancy that one much . What would be the better options out there at the moment please ? I've done a search on here and the net in general but not come up with much information really . Looking at either a Hasagawa or Acadamey at the moment on ebay .
  14. Tamiya do have a spares service , i have used it myself in the past . Price does tend to vary though , on the whole if i needed new parts now i would go down the ICM route . Paid £7.50 per sprue for 2 canopy sprues for a P-51D late last year . Where are you based ? I have got a few bits sitting in a box , i'll have a look if you want .
  15. I am loking at building on of these myself , having looked on the Hannant's site i have been tempted by the Special Hobby kit . Has anyone on here had any experience with there kit ? I've had a look at the review sites and have so far came up with a blank .
  16. Found the kit at antics online at £100 , not in stock as yet though . Also listed as a future release on Hannant's site along with a Special Hobby kit
  17. Hi Ian , i will be interested to see how you fit the rudder to the resin tail conversion . Done a couple recently myself and i was not happy with how either of them turned out .
