Alleycat's K5054 Spitfire prototype

Looks like there is a fair bit of work to do , not a fan of resin apart from seats myself . Find it too "unstable" for my liking . I envy anyone who can work wonders with full kits cast in it ! When will 3D printing render the use of resin redundant ? -

As an angler myself i have used the tungsten putty , for what you get weight wise it's darned expensive !!! One make is 25g for £6.99 . Use lead sheet fixed in place with 5 minute epoxy myself .- 587 replies

1/72 Blackbird Lincoln Conversion - Masks off!
taggart replied to woody37's topic in Work in Progress - Aircraft
Thanks for the reply Glenn ,must be difficult to estimate the demand for a certain conversion , don't want to hijack the build thread here but one more question for you . How do you think the development of 3D printing will affect the resin after market business ? The quality is not there now but sooner or later it will be . -

Stunning build , just looked through your thread on the assembly . How anyone can do that with etch is beyond me ! -
1/72 Blackbird Lincoln Conversion - Masks off!
taggart replied to woody37's topic in Work in Progress - Aircraft
Been watching this tread with interest , it's a great build so far . Also interesting the way the resin conversions come about , not too sure you should be letting the punters know the mark up from trade to retail though Certainly wouldn't happen in my game , there's a lot of difference between cost price , trade price and retail price ! -
Acetone will dissolve plastic .

Let's hope by putting a coat of something else over the top it will sort it out . I've spent ages masking and spraying this one up , can't face doing it all again ! Luckily there i are not many decals to go on so I might just get away with it . Will not be using it again though .
-
Thanks for the replies gents , i have had it sitting in the cupboard for at least a couple of years . I'll leave it till the weekend and see the state of play then , might try a coat or two of clear over the top if it's still not properly dry .
-
I used it as a gloss coat for decaling over a mixed Tamiya metallic's Colin . The kit is a SR-71 Blackbird and has been sprayed with various shades to break up the panels . I had the same trouble a few years ago with there black base (gloss) as well .

Hi , i've sprayed my latest project with the above and two weeks later it's still not totally dry . It feels hard to the touch but when i handle the kit it feels sticky and i'm leaving very light finger marks on the paint . Has anyone else had this problem with this product ? I shook the bottle well to ensure that it was well mixed before spraying it on . Can anyone recommend any other varnish/lacquer that does not do this please .

I like that a lot , sheer madness with all the masking . Have you seen these ? http://www.anarchymodels.co.uk/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage_new.tpl&product_id=173&category_id=27&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=1

If it has at least it will be right twice a day . -
Bio Strip 20 is what i use to strip paint , it's a fairly thick liquid so can be easily controlled . It only needs to left on the model for around one hour before being rinsed off under a warm tap . Looks like it has had no effect until you wash it off , it's brilliant stuff even takes off Halfords primer . It's reuseable as well just brush the excess back into the tub before you wash the model off .
-
I've had some bad experience's with the Vallejo primers , it's terrible if you need to sand anything back . Seems to dry as a skin on top of the plastic rather than bond to it . Also if you need to mask anything it lifts straight off the model . Went over to the Alclads but i use good old Halfords primer these days .

Just ordered one , free delivery as well . Must say that there address bars on the site are very poor , my address is pretty long and I couldn't get half of it in the space they provide , lets hope the post code does it's job

Looks very good , i'm still sanding and filling mine ! -
I'll pass on those then , me and rolling PE just don't get on
-
I've filled yet again this morning with 3M acryil red , will sand it back this evening and see what it looks like . It smells similar to P-38 filler so might be the one ! I'm a way off fitting the exhaust nozzles Pin , do they come flat or pre formed ? From my limited experience PE is the work of the devil .

Still plugging away at this but i am having problems dealing with the gaps on the underside of the wings where the upper and lower parts fit together . I have filled and sanded back a couple times now and i'm still left with a visible line when it's given a spray of primer . Tried to lose this with Mr Surfacer and also Mr Dissolved Putty but when it's sanded it looks as though it's not been filled at all . Any tips on how to get round this please gents ? Next up i was thinking of trying a super glue gel .

Good progress so far , you must be getting used to building these now Dan . Watching with interest ,currently having a go at doing a couple of these myself after looking at the ones you built earlier on here . It's very slow progress so far . I'm itching to see how you tackle the long tail version .
