  1. As Mike said, it's a great scheme. To me, the decals look good in the photos. Nice one, and I'm looking forward to your Shark! Regards, Adrian
  2. Well the list now looks like this: Which means I've now got one of these: I will need to check it over with fresh eyes in daylight before declaring it done-done but I couldn't resist a couple of pictures:
  3. Thanks James. I just want to get it off the bench at this point! I am certainly not going to be building an Avro Bison or even a Brewster Buffalo any time soon Regards, Adrian
  4. Landing light flare holders: This is getting silly...
  5. Five out of the six lights germinated (I need two) and I've got a bunch of discs that I will need for wheel hubs and identification lamps: The clocks went forward last night for summertime here and I'm shocked at how late it is! Still hoping to call it complete today...
  6. Well it might be fun for you but it's not all roses over here: Navigation lights in streamlined fairings above the wingtips. I tried and failed to make them out of blobs of glue on a stick, so this is the second attempt and they're already twice the size they ought to be... ...and I've just realised I haven't done the four wires linking upper and lower ailerons together. Next build is deffo going to be strictly OOB! Yeah, right.
  7. Thanks for all the kind comments. It is getting perilously close to being finished (although the list tells me I still have eleven jobs to do), so I'll just post a teaser for now:
  8. They look great despite being a bit fragile. Hopefully they will touch up well. Regards, Adrian PS vintage kit, but two-year old newspaper??
  9. Hope everything goes as well as it can for you and your parents Ray. Regards, Adrian
  10. That idea might have legs (although later fighters like the Fury, Bulldog and Demon all had plain sloping windshields). However, the DH4-9-9A all had rather upright windscreens, so they might have thought they needed the glass perpendicular to the sight line. Maybe the materials of the time weren't up to making distortion free sloping windscreens? Regards, Adrian
  11. Thicker solder for the exhausts: It drills easily at the other end to make it look hollow. And some white glue to fair the exhaust pipe into the collector ring:
  12. Ready for that top wing now... ...and everything lines up:
  13. There is! It's been returning strange error codes when I post but it seems better now. Anyhow, the generator could run, but it couldn't hide. On with some generous dollops of CA now: Gunsight next. I was wondering why it is set so high up and of course the answer is "so that you can sight above the topmost engine cylinder"!
  14. Here's the mystery generator: It's a cut down DF fairing from the spares box with stretched sprue legs. (edit) which has just launched itself into outer space after getting caught on the elastic rigging when I was trying a test fit...
  15. Freehanded the canopy framing: Now, it turns out that the jumble of stuff just below and in front of the Vickers gun on all my photos is a windmill generator, so that's next on the list. It is not on any plans but it is present on every photo I can find of J9719, so I have to add it. The list gets longer...
  16. This is what I use: I think the cocktail sticks are Sainsbury's Regards, Adrian
  17. Ah, the full auto bodywork treatment - haven't done that in a long while! Regards, Adrian
  18. Bombs loaded: The 20 pounders are from the KP DH9A and the 112s are from the Airfix DH4. The 112s should be shorter and I've seen pictures of them mounted in tandem on the same rail, but I've gone for the easy route in the interests of finishing!
  19. I use a blob of thick CA (Vitalbond FWIW) on a kitchen tile and I clean the cocktail stick tip about ever 3-4 applications to keep it sharp. I start a new blob when it starts to get too thick. The rigging above took four blobs. I measure the rigging gap using either dividers or vernier callipers and cut 10% shorter lengths of EZLine on the tile by rocking a sharp curved blade over them. The accelerator is in a pump action spray bottle. I never use the spray action but I unscrew the top and touch the elastic thread to the feeder pipe. You just need to touch the end of the thread to the blob and hold it for a few seconds until the accelerator does its work. Try to get the thread at the right position and angle for the run. An optivisor is a great help. I got one from EBay for around a tenner with LED lights and a set of lenses and I've been really pleased with it. The downside is that you get to see all your paintwork in far too much detail! Tall thin accelerator bottles are easy to knock over. Ask me how I know 🙄. I usually work with just the top and feeder pipe on the bench and put the topless bottle somewhere out of harm's way. Regards, Adrian
  20. It's looking very smart! Regards, Adrian
  21. Paint looks very smart - what's your plan for touching up the join between the halves? Regards, Adrian
  22. The paint job looks immaculate. And it's good to have a list - here's hoping it gets shorter, not longer! Regards, Adrian
  23. We won't tell It's looking colourful and convincing! Regards, Adrian
  24. Weird looking stuff! Coming along nicely. Regards, Adrian
