1:72 Fujimi BAe Sea Harrier FRS.1
Dr Evil replied to Navy Bird's topic in Work in Progress - Aircraft
I'd deffo go for the Hasegawa 1000lber, photie below, (although it has a retard tail rather than the squarer free fall fins on the bomb you have.) http://forum.keypublishing.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=112038&stc=1&d=1138823648 -
1:72 Fujimi BAe Sea Harrier FRS.1

As above, 9 Limas were supplied for the Falklands, Golf (or D?) airframes before that. Below shows XZ451 in that loadout in '81 although now with 899 rather than 800A, although I guess the paint over the 'A' markings was probably still wet... Chuffed you're going for EDSG over white, a stylish scheme indeed! -

Don't think anyone's answered your question, a quick google (so might need double checking) suggests three have very interesting histories... XZ451 was the first SHAR delivered to the RN and shot down a Canberra, Pucara and C-130, and inflicted damage on a Mentor during the Falklands conflict. XZ457 during the Falklands was credited with two Daggers and a Skyhawk shot down, with a further Skyhawk damaged. It was found later the damaged Skyhawk crashed with U/C failure whilst trying to land at Stanley so was also credited as a kill. XZ498 was shot down over Bosnia by an SA-7 as detailed in Lt Richardson’s book 'No Escape Zone' -
There are a few shots out there showing Brit Tooms with dark brown radomes, I assume this is their natural colour before being overpainted, hence the black or grey painted ones showing a brownish tinge?

OK Boss! You'll end up buying at least one though!
-
Agreed, in fact moulding looks nicer than I expected, so nice I just managed to order another.....

The Red Flag scheme is an inspired choice, sold!

Small point, the wing leading edge pointy fairings were passive warning, not active ecm systems, the fairings and pylon mounted ALQ-101 pod were both still in use at the end of the Buccs RAF service.
-
I think in theory they could, but in practice unlikely. IIRC four in the bomb bay, slipper tanks and either another couple or AAM/ECM on the outboards was more typical. The online bible below might give you inspiration, over 100 weapon loadouts listed... http://www.blackburn-buccaneer.co.uk/Contents.html

Agreed, I can picture the loadout but can't find (USAF) evidence to hand. Plenty with TER/Rails with one or the other loaded with live weapons, but not both. I've seen official documentation and spoken to USAF F-4 plumbers who have both confirmed that the loadout was possible. The USN/USMC certainly used it in anger. IIRC this was only possible with 'thinner' weapons such as Mk82 (and I guess '81 and Rockeye, which were rare on USAF birds in SEA) where 'chunkier' weapons such as M117's and SUU-30 etc would mean you could load either the TER or AIM-9 shoulder station.
-
I know it's not USAF, but believe the rail spacers etc are the same dimension..
-
IIRC the Toom couldn't fly with Mk 84's on the inboard pylons as the tail overlapped the main gear bays. Mk84 outboard with Mk82's on TER's inboard and C/L tank was certainly a Vietnam loadout

Oh God, you're going to cost me a fortune!!! Happy Days!!

The most obvious and uncorrectable errors are around the front fuselage/canopy which is too tall/pinched. Other smaller issues are pretty easy to correct with Toom bits from the spares box.
-
Why wish for new tools? Fujimi's Spey Tooms would be difficult to beat by any meaningful margin whilst Hasegawa's J-79 range could only really be bettered in a new moulding by having drooped ailerons, aux doors, airbrakes and and better cockpit detail. I'd rather have really cheap rereleases of these two whilst Airfix & Revell concentrate on aircraft previously unkitted or those covered by obselete mouldings. (Monograms F-4C/D/J mouldings are also fantastic, but I guess raised panel lines would preclude them from being state of the art)

I'd have to dig my kits out, but iirc apart from different decals, the USMC boxing includes the sprues from the USAF boxing with the Mk 82's and racks.
-
Agreed 100% ghost grey (or gray, I guess) I think two or three carried the nose art at the time as it referred to back home and not the Middle East, but I guess the triple Mig Killer is the one of interest?

Who cares the piccies are blurry, the fact that the camera couldn't keep up will only add to the legend of the MIGHTY TOOM!

Best 1/72 Hawk T.1A for a TWU bird in early 80s
Dr Evil replied to canberraman's topic in Aircraft Cold War
To bracket the seat change, 79 Sqn in '92 had at least the in Hawks I had to play with, the later square headrests. -
Where have all the Hasegawa 1/48 F-8's gone.

Was chatting to Ted Bayliss, who runs the F-4 Phantom SIG at Avon. He said he'd been helping out on this project. I think there are periodic updates on the SIG Facebook page, but not being a Facebook member I can't join. Ted did say the set was comprehensive, with new seat etc as well as decals. Sounds good value for what's included.
