  1. Thats a great start Mark, I thought you had her further along than this?
  2. Thanks for checking it out Neil Can I ask if your bomb bay doors were warped when they came off the sprue from the Lanc kit. I had a lot of trouble getting the set on the silver Lanc and it buggered up the paint work abit. I've looked at the set for the Lincoln and both are warped outwards at the ends which is easy to bend back but will be a pain to attach after painting. Have a great week end regards Callum
  3. Thanks guys I am glad you like it. its a big project and I think the water was just an idea to far. I don't know why I have to be so imaginitive with my projects . It is good to have the basic layout done though and I am so looking forward to getting the roads etc painted. If anyone has any questions on whats going on please feel free to ask . I haven't really explained how Melbourne has gone together so far and shes had a fair bit of work done. So I can post some pics of her stages. For tonight I'm outa here its taken an hour to write this I'm a bit braindead after work. Cheers Callum
  4. G'day everybody. I'm sorry I havn't been on much and I hope everybody is well. I'm a bit stalled on this at the moment but there has been progress since my last post. Its taken 7 and a half bottles of realistic water to fill the tray. But my idea with the water hasn't worked although it still looks okay. Because of the sand underneath I had to keep painting over the layers of water till everything was smooth so I didn't the sand surface showing through. Also as the water was drying it was pulling the center of the tray up so I ended up with a bulge in the center which was affecting the water pouring level and had the peir sticking up funny. To fix it I glued the tray down to a board which solved the problem and straightened everything outbut after when I tried to break the glue join to get the tray off the tray cracked underneath. The area around the subs didn't work out real well which was the point of doing the water like this. To do it as I wanted I really needed to fill the entire tray with water not half sand half water. but I figure it would take 15 16 bottles to fill it and at $40 a bottle thats out of my budget. The cost of this has overwhemled me a bit, so far I've spent nearly $1300 AU on this dio and thats just the water and the ships. I've had to buy another LHD because I stuffed up the position of the flight deck markings on the first one, this also gives me a chance to change a couple of other things that I didn't do before. The second LHD seems to have gotten lost in the post though as I ordered it over 2 months ago and there has been no sign of it in the post . So thats all the whinging and wining done and chances are it won't really make any sense to anyone but me. On the positive side, HMAS Melbourne is coming along nicely and I really love my RAN decal set I had made up. Both Melbourne and Hobart have their names and ships badges and it does add alot to the ships As I said its stalled at the moment and I've been building a few 1/72 planes for something a bit easier and straight forward while I get my head together with it. I'll shut up now and show the pics Once all the ships are finished I will add a couple of layers of Acrylic clear Gel Medium to the water surface to give it some water movement. The below photo shows all my Navy so fa and shows how the gel medium will look, plus it gives you an idea of the size of this thing The RAN is changing their ship coulour from Storm Grey to a new Haze grey similar to the U.S. navy. This I knew at the start of the build and I had decided to do all my ships in Storm grey (mainly because I had a lot of it and didn't know the shade of Haze we were going.) Now that the first Anzac class FFH has been painted Haze, I've decided the second 3d printed Anzac will be done in Haze. But not changing any of the others:) And thats where this is at. Thanks for looking and thanks for all the comments and interest so far. Regards Callum
  5. G'day Neil, Lifes good, I tend to get myself caught on Facebook (which is really Modelbook in my case) so I just run out of time for posting elsewhere (here) I still drop in and see what everybody is up to though. Once again thanks for your WIP it has been a handy reference for mine. I'll post some pics of mine here when she is finished but if you want to check it out now and you are on Facebook she is here https://www.facebook.com/pages/Cals-Scale-Modelling/450573365091027 And she isn't ugly either she's beautiful Take care and all the best Regards Callum
  6. G'day Neil, your Lincoln has really come up nicely mate. Well done and thanks for the WIP it is proving very useful for my RAAF MR.31. No way mine will look as good as this though. I hope alls well with you Best regards Callum

  8. I bought some decals from them a few months ago and it took a few weeks for them to get back to me in regards to my order
  9. G'day Warren, thats some really nice work you got there. Keep it up Cheers Callum
  10. G'day Neil, just noticed this mate. I didn't even know there was a new conversion out of the Lincoln. But yours is coming together very nicely and up to your usual standards. I hope alls well with you and yours and I'll keep an eye on how the rest of this comes together. Best regards Callum
  11. Very nice work on a subject very rarely seen. Fleetline no longer exist unfortunately, so don't hold your breath for a reply to an email. It is suprising there are not more WW1 sub models available but there is nothing would love to get this in 1/700
  12. Back again with a bit of progress. All I have been doing is building up the water level so it hasn't been very exciting. I took Kevs advice and filled the areas around the subs so it was'nt a straight wall But then I got impatient waiting for this second sub to turn up, an email to OKB asking if it had been sent got igored so I cracked it and decided to build without it so I totally filled one of the holes and started pouring the water A week later the second sub turned up So I dug the hole back up again And 4 and a half bottles of realistic water and a few weeks later this is how its looking. Still got more to go and its not turning out quite how I wanted and shrinkage is a bigger issue than I thought it would be. But I got in touch with Woodlands Scenic just to make sure I can use the Realistic water like this and I think I'm the guinea pig finding out if you can as they seem very interested in seeing how it finishes up. But they didn't say I can;t do it. I've also recieved my RAN decal sheet as a bonus they sent me 2 sheets which gives me a bunch of spares for future builds . Very happy with how these turned out except I misspelled one of the subs names. Its Farncomb not Farcomb. I've mentioned this to Custom Hobby Decals and even though they gave me plenty of chances before printing to check everything was right they are reprinting the ships names for me free of charge. These guys are awesome. So thats about it for now. Thanks for looking Cheers Callum
  13. Watching this with interest Martin. Have a 1/700 Colossus to convert to HMAS Melbourne which is very similar to what you are doing here. So very much looking forward to watching yours come together Cheers Callum
  14. I know all about having to go back and redo things, but trying to mask those white lines.......twice, I don't think I could do it once. Thats dedication I hope it works for you second time around. Cheers Callum
  15. Damm Frank, you are really kicking along with this and its looking fantastic mate. Very well done and keep up the great work. And Happy new year to you as well Best regards Callum
  16. She's coming along Kev and looking really sweet. Keep up the great work mate. Cheers Callum
  17. I've been waiting for that tape to come off, brilliant job mate really come up looking the business.
  18. Thanks gents, Kev, I did think about using snad to blend the sides of the lower level, but I had to add a fair bit of water to the pva to get it to pour and not stick to anything so I couldn't get it to hold its shape, so I decided that once the lower level was filled with water I can use paint a cama flage the ridge. I don't need it all totally clear just a bit of transperancy around the subs. If that makes any sense. Frank, I've already moved the room around to give me space to to sit it level when I do the water, I'm pretty much following the same process I worked out with my Cerberus wreck build. http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234955214-hmvs-cerberus-1700/ apart from painting around the ridges where the subs are, the only other painting will be blue and green transparent paint thinned down with clear gloss which will go over the water, then a coat of acrylic gel medium to give water movement effect. Dermot, I'm not real sure of the process for 3d printing. From what I can gather they would use the same references as a kit producer would use and use software to make the design. I read during the week that NASA designed a tool on earth using 3d software then emailed it to the International Space Station where they printed it out and used it. I got my 3d printed stuff from Shapeways so didn't have anything to do with the process but pretty happy the option is out there. Thanks for the interest and input and more to come soon Cheers Callum
  19. Afternoon all. Merry Christmas to everybody. Its a bit photo heavy but a bit of progress here. I now have 8 and a half bottles of Realistic water, but its not going to be enough. So with the water near $40 a bottle, I've filled in the depth a bit (alot ) with sand and pva glue, leaving an area for the sub hulls. The following photos show how it finished up, but it worked quite well and I think I will have a couple of bottles left over. I've also been hard at work on Diamentina Pier and now just needs details then I can join the levels together. I'm really happy with how this has come together. The last picture is of the real pier and show some of the details I've left to add. So pretty happy with where things are at. Still waiting on a second sub turning up in the mail then I can start poaring the water. Still a long way to go though More to come soon all the best for the new year . Cheers Callum
  20. G'day Sean, lovely airgroup there mate, well done. The photos show the details just fine as well so don't stress about them. Merry Christmas to you and all the best for the new year Regards Callum
  21. I know one thing I'm hard at Frank and thats spending money. I've worked out how much this has cost me so far. I've spent $1100 Australian on 5 1/700 scale ships and 2 subs and their details plus the dio base and precut sections for the docks and the water. I haven't even thought about whats going to sit on the dock yet. Talk about going to town. Be worth it in the end though. I've nearly finished with the shore line and water colour, just a few bits and pieces to add that will be under water including another sub thats somewhere in the post, then I can start pouring the water stuff. Fingers crossed I really did learn all my lessons doing the water on my Cerberus wreck , because there will be no second chances with this baby. You can see I've also made a start with the first level of the pier. Looking forward to some time off at Christmas to sit down and get some serious work done More to come soon Thanks for looking Cheers Callum
