  1. nice to see you back into this Neil and your mancave looks awesome
  2. Thanks Beefy, This week I have been really adventurous and have tried my hand at resin casting. The LHD and AWD are armed with the 25mm bushmaster close in weapon systems 4 for the LHD and 2 for the AWD. Nobody does these in kit form so I have had to make my own. So I made 1 and then cast some copies. They are not perfect but do the job I think After painting and the gun barrel and handrails added Doesn't look like much but its one major problem out of the way. Plus I now think I will do all the vehicles I need on the diorama like this as well. Should be fun Thanks for looking and the interest till next time Cheers Callum
  3. Thanks mate, if you do try with the realistic water don't try and use it to get depth of water as it won't work very well its good for covering a surface though
  4. G'day folks, probably time to bring this up to date. I've been getting distracted over on Facebook. but do you mind if I keep this going as a record of the build? So to bring it up to date. First the bad news. The realistic water hasn't worked, its the wrong product for the job as it is to soft at the depth it is. The ships sink into it and mark the surface. I can push my finger into it and leave a print. So I'm ditching the base and doing it again, next time I'll be using clear resin as the water. I have noticed over the last 12 months quite a few dio's using resin for water and getting a beautiful finish with it. So its time I learn. You can see all the indents from where the ships have sat and trying to fix it is going to drive me insane. So all this will have to be redone (including the subs as they are welll and truely stuck there. On the plus side I can make the base a bit smaller by cutting down the water area at the side and top. Onto the ships and I have managed to finish HMAS Canberra finally. This is my second attempt at the ship as I stuffed up the position of the flightdeck markings on the first one. Its also the third kit I have bought as the second one just didn't arrive and my emails were ignored. But second time round the build has gone together quickly. I've reused the center mast from the first kit as well as a few other components and its given me a chance to do some of the areas I missed on the first one. and to show where I stuffed up the deck markings And the finished ship. the airgroup is just sitting on and I still have to get folded rotors for the mob behind the island. So shes not perfect and she is still missing her Typhoon/Bushmaster gun mounts. My current mission is to modify the mounts from an Arleigh Burke and cast some resin copies. I posted these photos on my FB page last week and was totally stoked when they got a share to the RAN's FB page among others . I've also been in contact with Orange Hobby and passed along all my info and they have announced they will be doing a kit. Really happy about this as I have now sold Canberra and have to do another one for myself. Have to say folks really baulk when you tell them it cost $140 just to get all the componants together to build the ship. Not really sure how to charge for time either theres a good 60 hours work in this. In other news next month there is a 1/700 Armidale class Patrol boat being released from Dodo Models in resin with PE and decals. Also there is a 90 percent chance of an Anzac by March next year. So I'm holding off on building the other 3d printed till I see what happens. Plenty to do till then. Anyway till next time, Thanks for looking in Cheers Callum
  5. Sorry to hear you are off colour Frank, I hope you escape that hospital soon fully recovered take care Callum
  6. Nice to see you back at it mate , yuo got my attention with that chopper thing as well, looks something I could get a lot of use out of All the best Callum
  7. Geeze mate haven't you finished this yet? Lol just kidding, she is progressing beautifuly Foxy. Great work so far and hope alls well with you Cheers Callum
  8. Nothing wrong with that Steve, she looks nice. I like you have the canopy open as well. Well Done mate Cheers Callum
  9. Thanks again and Ed I have to say I was really suprised at all the great feedback on the longnose at Expo. I'm also pretty keen to do the short nose version when Red Roo release their update set. Pete over at Hawkeye decals also let me have a look at his up coming RAAF Lincoln Decal set which is gong to be pretty impressive. For those with an interest in building the RAAF's silver Lancaster A66-1 'Queenie', there are a set of correct sized roundels and fin flashes which could be used. The old Matchbox Lanc kit is the only other source of these. The most mentioned error at Expo was the fact that there is no blister in the canopy behind the pilot, its only on the starboard side, I missed that one in my research. Also The pitot tube below the pilot were placed under the nose on the long nose Mk.31's. Theres plenty of other things and Red Roos instructions that will come with their set are going to be a goldmine of information. Cheers all Callum
  10. Everyone's picking on her big nose . I thinks she's beautiful . Actually she would have looked really funky if I had done an aircraft which still had the midupper turret. Just to be really cheeky (2 Lincolns in one post ), Here's the B.30. I Built it about six years ago and it was my first major conversion Its from the Flightpath set with the old tool Airfix Lanc and Novascale decals. Notice the colour of the Roundel blue has changed from when I bought the B.30 to the just bought set of the B.31. Much nicer now. I've added the exhaust staining since these pics but I want to replace this one with another Blackbird set and the upgrade set thats coming. One thing I did learn from this is don't use putty to fill large gaps, especially wings use plastic stock instead. Cheers guys
  11. Once again thank you for all the comments. For anyone wanting to build a Lincoln, give it a month or so and there will be an upgrade set which will let you get a nice detailed model. I'm going to do another RAAF B.30 after this comes out because it sounds really nice. Its meant to be the B.II but its only the area where the undercarrage bays meet the inner engines thats affected, If it doesn't line up with the B.1 lanc parts putty will fix it soon enough. I was thinking of using a B.1/III as they are cheaper. The weight of the wings balances the nose and tail Thanks once again all, have a great weekend Cheers Callum
  12. Wow thanks guys for all the comments and likes. No bombload just a big empty bay, The MR31 had extra fuel tanks and life boat fittings in her bay and I didn't know what these looked like so left them empty. The Blackbird has the new Airfix B.II as the base kit while the Flightpath uses the previous Airfix Lanc. Decals for both are from Novascale which do an RAAF Lincoln set. I really like that although Nova don't include the MR.31 in the instructions they still include serial numbers and the 10 squadron badge for them. Once again thanks for the comments Cheers guys
  13. Thanks for the comments gents, I'm not being hard on myself, its a bit rough in places(I even have glue on the canopy which I just can't believe I did) I also had a bit of a fail with the cowling panel line wash and it looks a bit silly. She looked pretty funky as she was coming together, really building up a collection of Lanc bits I'm not sure what to do with doing these conversions
  14. G'day all, been a while since I posted an aircraft here but I was asked to post this one. Its my effort at the new Blackbird Models Lincoln conversion. I've built mine with the nose extention the RAAF used for Maritime patrol. Its in no way a perfect build but I really wasn't interested in a big project, I just wanted to build it. (got enough big projects doing my head in at the moment) I also built the Flightpath conversion a few years ago and the Blackbird is alot nicer in shape and detail, but the Flightpath one comes with the correct style Midupper and rear turret. I've just used the Lanc turret on the 31 and built an airframe that had had the midupper removed. I've also used the wrong exhausts as I seem to have lost some of the later style. I'm sure some will cringe seeing it........sorry but it was good fun to build Thanks for looking Cheers Callum
  15. Beautiful work Ray she is really looking the part there mate
  16. Here she is and thats a nice interior, Shame they have to do the panel lines so deep. Still I better get one sooner or later Looking forward to seeing the rest of your build Neil Regards Callum
  17. Thats some very nice scratchbuilding Kev. I might have to check out those drill bits. They look alright
  18. Very nice and interesting subject as well looking forward to seeing more
  19. Holy cow Frank, she's coming along very nicely mate Love your attention to the details. Keep it up Regards Callum
