Almost ready to go! I wake up early this morning as I cant sleep thinking about finishing the model... I've finished the main clear parts. I must admit I hate clear parts... When I was modelling aircrafts there were some minor clear parts but this is, with no doubt, the proverbial hell for clear parts haters They were way too distorted so needed to sand them down to 3000 grit, then polishing with compound (two grades), then they need a Future bath, then they need a black frame inside.... Then you need to smoke tint a band on to the front windshied... And, if you still need a bit more, you need to put some decals on (this time colorado decals were undersized ) and paint the borders with a Tamiya enamel pencil to hide a bit the plastic thickness once in place... Lots of chances to screw it up and make you to start it over (again and again, Keane dixit)... Oh well This is modelling so a bit of pain is a must I only need to glue every part in place... The last time I was in this stage was in 2008! So I'm a bit nervous... Still there is margin for dissasters so hope everything go as they must and allow me to call this a finished one (fingers crossed) -

One step beyond (Madness dixit)… Finished optics... Its quite a bit of work to mask those thin black lines they have at the front ones... I added some metallic paper backing the rear lights to make them more reflective One pic showing the wheel/disk brake I forgot to include previously And a couple more showing the general look right now... It includes some conic aluminum rivets that really improve the model. Hope you enjoy the pics -

Now you mention 1/43... What a shocking surprise is the price tag of these scale kits!!! I admit I'm a complete newbie when talking about car modeling but there must be a really small market when they need to ask such kind of prices for those tiny kits... Isnt it? -

If you need to sit inside the model to make touch ups with the airbrush you're not modeling, you're tunning cars Just kidding, of course! No one take offence on this, please. -

I Agree with you Dave. Wil be nice to have more cars at this scale. To me, 1/72 air-modeler, 1/32 is BIG enough. 1/24 it's perhaps a bit too big... Although I'm planing a 1/24 for the next one Juanjo -

Hi mates! A little update to the thread... The wheels included surely are not the pride of Airfix if talking about good moulds After a lot of cleaning up this is the way the look... I scribed the separation line between the rim and the rubber and added valves from stretched sprue I improved the wiper too as the included piece is too simple for my taste Hope you like -

After a big problem with the bodyshell, I colapsed the roof when polishing it, that its almost corrected I'm working on some details of the spoiler (it's that the word for the spanish word alerón?) I changed the shape of the original part (left) to the, in my opinion, more convincing at the right. I cut the new shape and added a thin plastic tab at the trailing edge. Do you still remeber I didnt like the shape of the fuel lids moulded by Airfix? This is the way the looks at last. The will go over the black decal circles I already put on the bodyshell Hope you like! Thanks for comment -

Thanks guys! Not sure about the weathering... After all, I already did such kind of things whith my aircratf & helo models....And this is my first car. A glossy thing if you compare it with, say, a sh-60b . . May be I just should leave her shiny... Who knows... -

So kind, beer drinking Homer This is the way it looks after polishing with 2500, 3000 grit sand paper, fast cut compound and Tamiya conpunf fine and finish grade. May be I'll polish it a bit more... And to take a break at the polishing work I'm finishing some minor details as the headlights -

Thanks Roger! I applied the second Zero gloss coat with good results, in my opinion Although I can see some inperfections.. And a bit of orange skin over the big decals that I hope can be fixed once polished... -

Hi there, first lacquer coat applied (from Zero). Once dry I wet sanded first with 2500 and then with 3000 grit. After that I applied a automotive compound. I think it's quite smooth and ready for the second coat. Take a look -

Buenas noches, amigos! Know what? Somehow I finally found out some inspiration to return to the plastic thing Believe it or not, I got interior finished I like the results. After all its my first car and my first BIG 1/32 scale model. I'm specially happy with the rearview mirror and the funny micro cell phone Didnt add a single wire. Why? Just because I'm not looking for pain anymore.... I can live without any wire inside the car... This time at least Hope you like how it looks. Thanks about the pics offering! Will haved in mind for sure! About the wheels. Yes, will try to use the included ones. In fact, I preffer plastic as never used rubber parts. Ps sorry for not writing before I,ve been really disconnected from modeling lately -

So kind guys! In fact this scale is enormous to me as I used to build 1/72 aircraft only! -
Hi mates! Very long time from my previous post here... By that time I used to (try to) build aircrafts; now I'm here with I car which I must admit it's something completely new to me. I started this build a few moths ago, I started a thread at the Airfix Tribute forum but being an Aston I suposse it's not a bad idea to post it here too. So these pics show the progress to the moment.... Hope you enjoy and thanks for looking The model its quite well enginereed, in my opinion... Good fit, till now, and only small amounts of flash and a few ejector marks here and there.... I started to add some bits I found out looking at pics of the real thing on the Internet. I'm not, at all, an expert on cars so I'm sure I'm making mistakes but I'm taking this build as a new start on modeling so mistakes should be expected, isn't it? As I didn't like the way the boot (if that is the name for the trunk) area look I decided to add a few bits of Evergreen here and there.... ... Improved a bit some pieces and build others from scratch... After some work this is the way it looks... One thing I was not very happy with was the way Airfix represented the vents behind the wheels with only a couple of decals... I also added belts to the seat with masking tape The cockpit (is that the word for a car?) had no sidewalls so I made them Final stages of detailing before priming The refuelling "cap" was not very well represented so I deleted them and I'm trying to replicate using styrene sheet. Never primed a model before but as almost anyone building cars do this as a basis I decided it was a must for me too I used Mr Surfacer 1000 diluted al 50% ratio with it solvent and airbrushed at 1,5 bar. ...And this is how priming has gained a fan I love the way the pimer add strength to the scratchbuilt pieces and what's more add smooth to the surfaces... Will keep doing it for sure... The bodywork its almost ready. I engraved some rivets, filled big holes, etc... Already glued the bumper as it doesnt fit very well... May be the more time comsuming parts were the rear air vents... They look more or less convincing, in my opinion... Not a big progress but I primed the bodywork to locate fails... Some pics... ...Then primed in white... ... And then airbrushed with Zero's Gulf Blue... Here you can see the finished paintwork and a couple of gloss coats aplied in preparation for decals. Now on to THE DECALS!!!! Will be my first decaling work in six years Okay decaling finished. Finally, the Colorado decals sheet was quite overscaled That's why a ended using all the orange from the Airfix kit and only used from the Colorado sheet those ones needed for representing the car during the race. On the orange area over the side windows, I used the airfix decals and carefully cut and applied the blue line from Colorado over that.... With a good ammount of Microsol it looks convincing to me. Airfix decals did not nclude all the orange you need for the intakes on the car nose. You need to use some paint to cover them. I used Vallejo mixed to my eye. Once clear coated I think the will look good enough. Anyway, I think the Colorado decal sheet is a good investment as include all the decals for the race car as well as the 007 numbering, quite more "iconic", in my opinion, being an Aston Martin. Now on to the clear coating again.... Hope you like the pics.
