I have made some steady progress with this since returning from Amersfoort. First job was to decide which of the schemes provided in the Eduard kit to choose and my choice was Stalag Luft III/ I Wanted Wings/ Button Nose, a complex scheme to reproduce in 1/144 scale.

However, always up for a challenge, it was time to get on with the painting. After brushing some interior colour over the canopy I painted the lower surfaces with Xtracrylics Medium Sea Grey and that was followed up with some Ocean Grey to the upper surfaces from the same manufacturer. The only other bits of of painting done are a couple of areas of colour to the nose and rudder.

Next job is to add the disuptive Dark Green patterning and the solid Olive Drab areas on the upper surfaces.
More soon.

Thanks James, We got back safe and sound just before New Year.

Thanks a lot H, managed to do a bit more on this since returning as you will see below.

Welcome Alistair. They are a friendly bunch on here and are willing to pass on tips and advice/suggestions which should help you to refine your skills.
I look forward to seeing your models in the near future.

That is so tiny. You could build it in your pocket without anybody else noticing.
Yes, and you would still have room to peel a Satsuma. 😂🤣🤤

Watching with interest H, I think that I have a Revell version of this (it's definitely a small scale X-wing) so it will be good to see how this goes together.

You're off to a good start there, John

Thanks James, there are not too many parts to this kit but they got together to make a lovely little model. I just need to decide on which of the 5 schemes to go with.

Not the normal fayre for this scale Denis, though Platz kits usually have some nice details.
On 17/12/2023 at 21:52, Marklo said:For some reason it’s a great scale to build in. I find I’m much more focused in the paint scheme and the overall finish when I build in this scale plus almost everything is available in the scale and it’s a great scale for large subjects.
I agree, it's a really handy scale especially when you live in a small bungalow. Imagine how much space this little lot would take up in 1/72nd scale - the top of this unit is around 1metre long.

Cheers Cookie, and talking of flying starts, we are off to the Netherlands tomorrow to spend Christmas with our Son and Daughter-in-law. Which means that work will stop for a short while, below are a few photos of progress so far.

After adding the decals, the seat and instrument panel have been glued into the cockpit.

Once they had been left to set up, the canopy was masked up using the masking set provided in the kit, then this, the cowling and the tailplanes were glued in place.

I finally made a start on this little Eduard re-pop of the Platz kit. After splashing a bit of colour around the cockpit, undercarriage bays and some of the smaller details the fuselage and wings were assembled and those two major sub-assemblies have been glued together. Next job will be to add a decal to the instrument panel and a couple of others for the seatbelts to the seat.

Some of the painted details.

Whilst painting up the details, the one thing that did surprise me was the level of detail on the tyres of the main wheels. What I thought was a rough textured surface, down to my dodgy brush painting, turned out to be the diamond tread pattern of the tyre.

Thanks for all of your comments and advice guys. As I have said, due to some health issues the modelling has taken a back seat of late and this is a bit of a kick-starter to see if I can get back to doing the things that I enjoy.
Cheers

My apologies for a very last minute entry for the GB, but for a number of reasons this is the first model that I have picked up for several weeks and with a few projects abandoned mid-build, it could be regarded as a mojo restorer. I am hoping that this quick build will get me back into the swing of things and push me to completing those too.
Anyway here are the photos of the bag and its contents.

Missed this one, but please add me to the list Nigel. I have a Belkits Mk.1 Escort and an ICM Ford Model T which would be suitable - though I not sure if the Model T could be classed as speedy.

Luckily I have the Takom 1/35 Apache Guardian in the stash.
You should whisper that. If @trickyrich finds out that a certain egg-plane builder has one in his stash he will definitely being rushing out to get his hands on one.

Your perseverance is definitely paying off Adrian, though you may want to have a lie down in a darkened room when you have finished.
That list is getting shorter, so keep going.

Nice work, John
James
Thanks very much James. I'm still plodding along with it and had a first pass at tidying up the fuselage join before adding the lower wing assembly.

by John L, on Flickr
Once that had set up I glued the upper wings in place.
by John L, on Flickr
There's some work to do around the trailing edges on both sides.

Then the taiplanes were neatened up and glued in place.

Next on the list of jobs will be to blank off the top windows again and have a final pass over the fuselage join, then sort out the wing trailing edges before cleaning up the wing and tailplane joins after that I can tackle the nacelles.

Good effort good buddy. Hope you get it finished soon.
Cheers H. I guess my decision to add rigging was not such a good idea for a Blitzbuild. 😄

Thanks James, at least I managed to get paint on the main structures this time.

I've just stopped for something to eat and have a quick assessment of the work still to be done. Having looked things over there is just too much to get this finished for the deadline, I have a hospital appointment tomorrow so will need to have an early night. I am not going to leave it like last years Blitbuild entry though and will have it finished very soon. Here is where I am at at the moment, first coat of paint on the fuselage and lower wing assembly, the lower outer sections of the upper have also had a first coat - the upper side can be painted and the decals added after it has been fixed in place and the rigging is finished. All of the holes for the rigging have been drilled and most of the smaller details are finish painted ready for final fixing. Here's where I have got to so far.

Nice work John, let's hope she makes it over the line!
Thanks for the encouragement Jeroen.
With about 12 hours left befor the end of this Blitzbuild and a delivery estimate of 1:15 - 3:15 for the drills, lets see if we can get this one across the line. This is as were I was up to yesterday and with the time approaching noon today. LETS GO!

I made a start on this at 12:30pm on Sunday, cleaning up the fuselage and wing parts then assembling the cockpit.
by John L, on Flickr
After that I painted everything up then stopped for a quick bite to eat before I started everything together.

By around 18:30 I had the fuselage glued up masked up the canopy and pressed the lower wing in place and I had also primed up the remaining smaller details ready for further painting. One job I had started was drilling the holes for the rigging, unfortunately I broke both of the 0.3mm drills that I had so quickly ordered more which should arrive tomorrow.

And at around 6hrs in, that was it for the day - I need to let the join set up then I can clean up the fuselage. I hope to make an earlier start tomorrow then I can push on with some detail painting.
Back with more soon.
