  1. Coming along nicely Ced, nice job on getting the u/c doors to fit.
  2. That's a good start mate, looking forward to seeing more.
  3. H Did you use Humbrol's Clear Acrylic varnish? Sometimes giving it a second coat and placing it in a tin/box with a lid on can help to clear a milky finish, as always test a small area first to see if it works first. I like the black scheme it gives it a stealthy look, good job on getting her finished.
  4. Ced I don't get too concerned about dimensional accuracy (I can hear the calls of heretic and burn him from the rivet counters now ) as long as it looks about right to the Mk.1 eyeball then that is good enough for me. However I do like to try and improve the appearance of things if it is within my capability to do so.
  5. Yes she is Stew, meet Roxy a Heinz57 cross breed that we rescued from Manchester Dogs Home 81/2 years ago and she is a little cracker.
  6. A little more progress made. The wings have been cleaned up and joined to the fuselage, the are a couple of small holes on each side of the rear join - probably caused by some over zealous sanding by yours truly - which will require a smidgen of filler and some more filler will be needed on the forward join. The rest doesn't look too bad I will know more after priming. I will take some photographs of the wing join before I start the filling process. Next, I carefully drill out the gun ports using a 0.55mm drill and added some short lengths of 0.5mm brass tubing.
  7. Hey Stew this is where you got to post BofB. I've just had a catch up on your fantastic work, you're doing a cracking job and the figures look brilliant. I look forward to seeing more.
  8. Both coming along Ced, still got filling to do around the tailplane/fin join and wingtips on mine so I will be watching your filling experiment closely.
  9. Hi John You might know it better than you think, McDonnell Douglas produced T-45 Goshawks for the US Navy and Marines by modifying B.Ae Hawk 60 airframes.
  10. H Same advice as Rich really, keep the coats light and hold the can away at the correct distance. I use Gloss Appliance White from Halfords for white paint but for the white areas on my Bf 109 I used Plastic Primer and sanded. Stand the can in some warm water for around 5-10mins before shaking and be sure to shake for the recommended 2mins before spraying. Some builders on here decant the paint and spray thinned paint through an airbrush and that works fine, but I don't usually do that. I do let the first coat harden up and then wet sand before applying a second coat, just take care around any raised details if you decide to do this. A final light sanding with some fine grit micromesh (6400 or finer) gives a nice smooth finish. HTH
  11. The Italian and Saudi aircraft have now had the seats and canopies added, with the canopies receiving a couple of coats of Klear first. I have tried to refine the probe on the nose of these and to do this I am using some Albion Alloys slide fit micro tubing. I have drilled out the nose and inserted a small piece of 0.7mm tube, later in the build this will become a fixing point for sections of 0.5 and 0.3mm tubing before finishing with a short length 0.1mm nickel silver rod. Thanks for looking.
  12. You would think that the BBC could find something more worthy of investigation.
  13. This is going to look good, though I would have liked to have sat in on that planning meeting, "I've got a great idea, why don't we just reverse the flying surfaces?" Probably similar to the one you had when trying to convince Mrs H to buy the latest line of camo-wrapped sofa covers. Good luck with it mate looking forward to watching it come together.
  14. Work continues on these in the KUTA GB - link here KUTA VIII One down two to go - updated 29/11/15
  15. Thanks buddy, allow me to get it for you . I've actually made a bit of progress on these today - and it is a bit. The Firebirds F.3 has had the undercarriage doors and pylons added, my ref photo shows them unloaded so no weapons on these. I had previously scratched some of the main aerials, the lights on the spine and under the nose. Then I gave some of the paintwork a touch up I'm not sure about weathering this, because there is a lot of extraneous detail there. I may just give some of the panel lines a pin wash. For the Italian ECR and the Saudi IDS I have added some masking tape harness to the seats, I hope to get these in the cockpits later. Links to the previous progress can be found below Tornado F.3 56® Firebirds A Tri-Nation Build of Revell's 1/144th Tornado
  16. Build continuing now over in KUTA GB - link here KUTA VIII I will post photos in the gallery here as and when I complete them. Finished 29/11/2015
  17. Thanks Jean, and yes it is quite a simple kit to put together but I feel that there are some stages which over complicate construction and are there to increase the parts count. Then again it may be that it was done to enable the manufacturers to make fewer changes to the tooling for different variants.
  18. It's used a lot by railway modellers for adding weight to rolling stock and is useful where space for weight is limited in aircraft modelling. I'ts available from here Deluxe Materials and a search of the internet may well throw up a local supplier. HTH
  19. Well done Karl they look fantastic, I'm glad that you were able to get them in the gallery.
  20. Some great pics of NF-5's Turkish Stars here
  21. Cheers bud, I have added some more this afternoon. I started by making a small box and cut the corners off, this was filled with Liquid Gravity and some more aquarium plant weight before adding a top cover. Then, after rounding the corners off, I glued this to the rear of the cockpit bulkhead, it seems to be tipping forward now but if that is not enough the only alternative will be to drill a hole in the underside of the nacelles and get as much weight as possible behind the engine bulkheads.
  22. Thanks Jean, I have really enjoyed building them. I would have liked to have had the time to add some light weathering to the 109, but that is not one of my favourite parts of modelling and I am always wary of messing things up through not knowing when to stop. I have already started a couple of other Group Builds. I have a Meteor F.8 in the Gloster Meteor STGB, Four (yep count 'em ) 1/144 Tornados in the KUTA VIII GB at various stages of completion and finally for this year an F-5 Freedom Fighter in Turkish Stars colours for that STGB which starts this coming weekend. Thanks again for your comments, I hope things are starting to cool down where you are, at 40c I think I may have risked removing my vest.
  23. Thanks guys and welcome aboard. I'm amazed at how quick the main parts of this have come together. At the last update I had packed some weight into the nooks and crannies around the cockpit and nose area and since then the fuselage halves and tailplane have all been assembled. The area around the taillplane is going to require a little bit of filler, but for the rest a little bit of a clean up of the mating surfaces and some care when assembling the parts was all that was needed. A quick tidy up after everything had set up and job done. The wings have been glued together and the front and rear sections of the engines are now in place. The forward seams of the engines needed some filler and this area along with the trailing edges will need a good clean up, it will be much easier to do this before joining the two major assemblies. I have also taken the opportunity to check the balance of the kit and it is just teetering on the edge of being a tail sitter. So rather than chance things I am going to make a small box from some scraps of plastic card and I will then fill this with some more weight before adding a top and the whole thing will be glued into the space behind the cockpit bulkhead.
  24. I wish Cookie. I worked in the aircraft industry and during my first year as an apprentice I had to make my own toolbox and all of its contents eg scribing block, die holders, tap wrenches, vee-blocks etc. I came out of my time five years later as a Turner/Grinder and this required parts to be produced to very close tolerances, so I guess that is where the precision has come from. The cleanliness bit comes from having to keep parts and work areas clean to avoid FOD risk and I have no doubt that if I was ever analysed there would be a smattering of OCD in there.
