About Me
Worked for Hawker Siddeley/British Aerospace/B.Ae. Systems for 32 years, starting out as a Craft Apprentice and moving to the Technical Apprenticeship scheme after 12 months. In my early-mid twenties I started with AS further complicated by Rheumatoid Arthritis in peripheral joints and as a result I moved into the Programme Planning department where I worked on a variety of projects H.S. 748, Nimrod Mk.2 and briefly AEW before moving onto B.Ae.146/RJ as Senior MPS for the Rear Fuselage.
When the RJ project finished the department function change and my duties included monitoring and matching skills to workload from a site down to departmental level. I finished working for B.Ae in July 2002 and my final set of headcount figures for the site stood at 965, sad reading for a site that had once manufactured major assemblies for the Lancaster, Shackleton, Vulcan etc and that had employed around 14,000+ between the two sites when I started there.
My time in the aircraft industry was followed by a rapid promotion to Chief Cook and Bottle Washer by Mrs Nimrod. I can't say I was head-hunted for the position, it was more a case of being told to 'Gerron wiv it' and never one to want to cross Mrs Nimrod, that is what I have been doing since.
My hobbies, apart from welding and painting bits of plastic, include reading, amateur photography, listening to music and gardening, with the latter one dependant on how the arthritis is.
