  1. UNFORTUNATELY , FineMolds has just announced that both Weapons Sets have been delayed from August shipping to 22 Sep 2021, with the following explanation: Gene K
  2. Me too, but since I use HobbyLink Japan's Private Warehouse, I can ship as many in-stock items as I've ordered at any time. For example, this magazine is in my Private Warehouse awaiting shipping with my F-4Cs: Since I'm impatient when it comes to Phantoms, I'll select FEDEX ($$) as my shipping method ... my F-4Js arrived here in Florida in three (3!) days from HLJ. I contrast that with my local USPS that takes a week to get a card from me to my neighbors! Gene K
  3. Appears everything is on track for the August 23 shipment (from the factory to hobby shops). Hopefully the Weapons Sets are not too far behind. Gene K Homebee, an FYI: This thread title has the F-4C/D coming in Sept, but the schedule has been F-4C in August, with the F-4D and F-4J Marines in September.
  4. Understand. I'm certainly no F-4 expert, but I have learned a lot from the smart folks here on BM and other Internet modeling sites. Gene K
  5. Great -- I was afraid that you were talking yourself into declaring the "old" Hasegawa kit as not worthwhile. It is a fine kit, as are the rest of the Hasegawa Phantoms. The major challenges are the intakes: no ducts; the vari ramps need a redo; and the fit in the shoulder area onto the fuselage will require putty to level the join. Here's one way to get seamless intakes if you don't want to get aftermarket resin. If you have a SIlhouette cutter, I can send the Studio file. As a small aside, the N stabilator leading edges have fixed slots ... not slats. However, the F-4Gs were early F-4Bs that had the solid leading edge. Also, if your models are going to be carrying wing tanks, you can get the early McD tanks from Hypersonic ... in 1/48 and/or 1/72. Really looking forward to your F-4G builds! Gene K
  6. Just revisiting to take in that craftsmanship ... as detailed here (Apr 24 post). Gene K
  7. Of course that set can't really do without this set ... unless you cut, detail, and lower the Tamiya leading edge flaps ... which is much harder than releasing the trailing edge flaps. Gene K
  8. Both the Revell and Hasegawa slatted outboard wing parts will do in a pinch. However, if you want more realistic slats: since neither Revell nor Hasegawa depict the gap between the slat and the leading edge (even when"retracted"), you'll have to cut off the slats, form replacements, and then mount them on the recontoured leading edge. If using the Hasegawa parts, you'll also have to trim the strake since the E model differs from the S which Hasegawa uses for both models. And in both cases, you'll have to relocate that strake into a slot on the slat ... if you want to be entirely correct. The inboard slat actuators are in both the Revell and Hasegawa kits, so you can just measure those kit's actuator locations, dril/glue the FM wings accordingly. Here's a non-finished example (I prefer the Revell outer wings): Check out Giorgio's excellent thread where he adds slats to the FM kit to make a late Greek F-4E. Gene K
  9. Ship date for the F-4C has been announced by FM as 23 August. F-4J USN is shipping now from Japanese hobby shops like HLJ. Latest F-4D and F-4J Marines box art here and here. Gene K
  10. Sorry - I think we have a language challenge ... and I don't know how much clearer I can be when I said: "All" includes the F-4C. Those crew figures are bonus items in the first batch of each of the short nose kits (in order: F-4J USN, F-4C, F-4D, and F-4J Marines). The following appears on all the separate short nose pages like for the F-4C you asked about:
  11. Also? The first "edisions" [sic] of the short noses all include 2x crew figures, not seat belts (those are available as separate purchases). My personal opinion: save your money -- too little for too many yen. Gene K
  12. And after the S, the next logical wing mod would be a slatted E, leading to an F-4G. Etc ... . (I actually love the current ZM kits ... waiting for their F-4G, so I'm good!) Gene K
  13. Here's some speculation about future Tamiya 1/48 Phantoms, such as the F-4C/D: The Marking Stickers Sheet in the Tamiya F-4B kit has extra masks as shown below. The two "n" masks are the size of the F-4C/D Landing and Taxi lights, while the insets on rear canopy parts "o" and "p" are where outside rear view mirrors would mount. Gene K
  14. Happy for you that the lack of prominent vents on the Airfix kits didn't curb your enthusiasm ... as it did for Negative Nancy me. Gene K
  15. (I think you meant for the FineMolds F-4E). Such a set would be absolutely great, but unfortunately, evidently 1/72 doesn't sell well for Hypersonic. I'm hopeful FineMolds will eventually model both the slatted and thin wings as they expand the range. As an aside, for those unfamiliar with the excellent Hypersonic line, see this for the 1/48 Slatted Wing Conversion parts. That's an easy option, but, as with the Hasegawa kits, requires a little surgery to free the slats and properly raise them from the wing panels ... if so desired. Gene K
  16. Thanks. I have to admire his passion for accuracy ... and FM's willingness to make such minor adjustments. Maybe he can convince FM to correct the tanks and add speed brakes when they issue their F-4B/N, F-4G, and RF-4 ... and add the gun gas purge door when they do the F-4F. Gene K
  17. https://www.scalemates.com/kits/wolfpack-wp48069-f-4k-m-british-phantom-hard-wing-flap-down-set--173997 Good luck finding a set -- there may be one available here.. Good discussion in this BM 2014 build. Gene K
  18. Do tires used in high speed, heavy weight carefully controlled carrier crashes ... er, landings, really show bulges? Here's a quote from a discussion of Phantom tires: Considering the high tire pressure in the skinny F-4B tires, I think you can save your money on "weighted tires". BTW, which AM company offers these? Gene K
  19. The Tamiya kit is a late B model, so I "kind of" understand KASL not including the Inner Leading Edge Flaps. But please ... . However, what I don't understand is their pre-shipment price of 500 yuan for 4 relatively small pieces of resin --- that's $77.38 USD according to Google. Is that correct?????? Gene K
  20. I admire his attention to panel line differences, but can't decipher (using Google translate) what he is accomplishing by "cross kitting" the C nose section to get an F-4E from what is essentially an F-4E. . Maybe Giorgio can clarify since he is presently working that section of the kit. Gene K
  21. Impressive build and photojournal. Thanks. Gene K
  22. Try the link in my post just above -- that is this one. You'll need the time frame when the particular aircraft you're modeling was flying. MB seat convention is to use numbers vice Roman numerals. Gene K
  23. Kind of like this?: Courtesy of Tommy Thomason. Gene K EDIT: Sorry, Greg. We posted at the same time.
