I know that's why I did a generic one if I had had the proper 55 inch decals I would have done it proper like. For the group build I will do itwith all the right serials markings ect. Rodders

1/72 Stearman Kaydet Crop Duster
Rodders154 replied to Ozmac's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
I keep on thinking of doing one as there is one at Compton abbas just down the road where you can actually do wing walking as for skills I wouldn't even attempt rigging. Well done good job Rodders -
Hi Mike, I felt like doing a Wessex because it was an aircraft type Tony used to work on. I have done it as a generic build as the aircraft I wanted to build was YA the aircraft lost at south Georgia the aircraft Tony told me he was the maintainer on. I went to his funeral yesterday a great loss to the modelling community. I am trying to get the large 55" letters so that I can do it for the Wessex group build that is coming up. If you around Yeovil way anytime and want to meet up PM me and I will stand you a coffee or a pint. Thanks for you comments.

Getting in a bit of practice for the group build I know its a few weeks away but I have many more Wessex kits in the stash and will be participating in the GB anyway. Italeri Wessex built strait from the box but using modeldecals for the markings.I notice that I need to put a couple of ariels on. Isn't amazing what you don't see in the flesh but shows up like a sore thumb when you see a picture. Tried etch on the seatbelts for a change it is however still a learning process. How people do the really fine stuff is beyond my capabilities. I did rebuild the tail rotor to rotate the right way but overnight the gremlin snuck in and took one of the blades to god knows where so I have used a tail rotor from a previously built HAS3 I may get to modify this one later. This is a generic build and not of a particular aircraft Paint is Tamiya 58 with a coating of future polish. Normal viewing distance 5ft For those that say I am a quick builder the model took 4 days from start to finish working around 4 hours each evening. I was thinking of changing my user name to Rocket Rodders because of my perceived speed in building kits This is an aircraft from the squadron Rodders Thanks for looking Rodders

Beware the copy I have is badly varnished and the decals don't stick I had to send an aftermarket Raf set. I like the Revell one I have several along with the airfix ones. I used the sponsors from the old airfix kit and it doesent turn out too bad. Airfix one has no rivets but as I am not a rivet counter so no problem there then. Model decal did a sheet with most of the seaking early schemes Looking forward to seeing you build thread Rodders

Could someone point me in the direction of white 55" in 1/72 letter. Modeldecal used to do them a long time ago but I cannot find them on Hannets site All the ones I have found dont go up to 55" I need them for a 1/72 Wessex OD with white markings Rodders

This is normal speed for me on a build. I am not getting alot of sleep reason will become obvious soon so this whiles away the night. I never bother with etch as with my eyes I cannot see much of a differance and not being a rivet counter I think that if a kit is recognisable as the subject then I feel have done alright. Rodders

1/72 UH-1C Iroquis from Italeri

Looks good to me Rodders -
Told you all I was a quick builder More progress takn about 10 hours to get to here The 10p is the ballest weight to keep it on its skids and avoid tailsitting. Major cockup on the windows above the pilots in that they go in from the underneath not on tol like I have them noticed too late after I had joined it all togeather The blue is tamiya clear blue via a brush. Coming along I had never noticed that one windscreen had the triangle in the top corner you live and learn. All seams sorted now. The main differance between a Griffin and a 212/UH-1N Assembley and painting next I had a sleepless night so spent a lot of it modelling Will edit this post about the reason later Rodders

Bit late in starting but as i dont take long on models It will be finished well before the deadline. Griffon HT1 of the helicopter school using the Italeri kit with no aftermarket (except MAYBE the decals) I will use Revell decals for the most partput anything up on the site and had nearly finishe So on with the show. I suddenly realised that I had not put up anything on the forum and had fished the cabin. Those who have seen my builds before know that I do tend to get on with it and am not too fusy about the accuracy of the kit unless it is glaring I leave it as it came in the box. First pic is picture of the box (duh) There is enough of the basic 2 blader being build so the spure only shows the Griffon bits Decals x2 will be using bits from both Sorry no cabin being built pics but got carried away. I used a modeldecal wessex instrument panal cut down for the instruments I think it looks better and under the glass its very hard to see properly anyway. From another angle Rodders

I do like wraparound 1 thing though the tailplane appear to be upside down Lovely finish I keep away from mine because of basic seat and the cost of the aftermarket bits but after seeing yours I may reconsider building it. Rodders

Airfix Hunter in Raspberry ripple
Rodders154 replied to Rodders154's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
Thank you for all the kind comments. I do think that old kits should not be written off bcause they are not this years model (pun intended) after all there are some of us who have seen the wrong side of 50 and we are not written off yet. I enjoyed the build and will be building some of the older models in the stash in future I keep looking at the revell HH-3 which I am sure with a bit of TLC could turn out alright. There are some models that can only be built from old kits like the CH-54 Skycrane. I bought the kit at the Sailsbury model show for a fiver and considering that I got about 10 hours modelling out of it I think 50p an hour for keeping me amused has got to be a bargin. Now to do another kit I bought there the 1/48 CH-46 in presidential flight colours. Rodders -
My type of build I have done the wessex whirlind and seaking in 1/72 looking forward to you doing these Rodders

If you know anyone who has gone to a wedding lately the little bags that hold the sugar almonds are good as well Rodders -
I had this old airfix kit of the hunter hanging around and decied that as the decals were out of register I would cobble togeather the markings for the Raspberry ripple aircraft XE601. This is not a faithfull reproduction of the aircraft there large gun casing mouldings are still there and I have not modified the kit in any way except to put in a white metal mk4 martin baker seat that I found in the kit. this is the first time I have used acrylics and enamals on the same kit and it seems to have worked ok. Normal 5ft viewing distance please Many thanks for looking Rodders
