  1. Hi Guys n Gals, it's an amazing show. When I visited in 2012 I worked flight line ops each day and did the first, two hour shift every morning. So each day began with doughnuts being delivered by Air Traffic, then a short briefing, before we took our vehicles to the aircraft parking zones. My main role was directing aircraft upon them clearing the runway. This gave me an true sense of getting involved and putting something back into aviation. My days then continued by signing off shift and taking my camera, to wherever I wanted, before taking a short bus ride ($3) over to the Oshkosh Seaplane base. There I had lunch, took some shots and returned to the show. The afternoons went by in what felt like minutes, before the evening parties started! My best tips would be; -use factor 50 sun lotion, -take a lightweight waterproof cape, just in case the weather turns (it can do so in minutes), -drink loads of fluids (there are free water fountains across the show), -always wear a hat and get one with plenty of rear coverage, as photographers can get serious neck burn, -there are free trams (tractors towing trailers of seats) running throughout the day. You may think they're a gimmick but use 'em to save your legs, as it's 3 miles from end to end, -don't try to do all the show, there's just too much for even a full week (I never even managed to get to the museum, so I'll save that for my next visit), -they usually operate Bell 47 pleasure flights over the show, so please take it as you'll really get a sense of scale to the event, -check what days the mass arrivals are taking place, they're an amazing sight, -the field is split into different zones, e.g warbirds, rotary, LSA's, vintage etc, so go to those that you prefer, -don't miss the night time air-show with fireworks, it's amazing, -take spare camera batteries and rechargers, -sign on at the international visitors tent, -start saving when you get home as you will return!!!! we had about 11,000 aircraft during my stay!!!! By the way, when I arrived at the amphibian zone (at the show, not at the Seaplane base), I was given a cold beer by the crew of a beautiful Grumman Goose. So I chatted with them a while, and went to photograph the next Goose - who's crew gave me a freezing cold whiskey cocktail. So I chatted with them for a while and went on to shot the next Goose, who's crew gave me another awesome cocktail! So I chatted with them for a while and walked away, before taking a snooze under the shade given by the wing of a Beaver! Hic - you have been warned. Have a great time. Regards Reggie
  2. I always rated the old MRCA red & white colour scheme. Regards Reggie
  3. Hi Roy, on BBC-1 Breakfast now (06:55 Sunday Morning) they have Gerry's son being interviewed, with a couple of the characters etc.
  4. Goodness me! I can honestly say the only 'floaty' things I ever look at are Seaplanes, Floatplanes and Flying Boats and for some odd reason I decided to take a quick look into the Maritime thread and this was the first one I looked at! I just cannot believe the result that you've created, it's simply stunning and has taken my breath away. Back in 1982, I was a young 20 year old, working in an office and following the Falklands campaign with much interest (mainly from the aviation aspects). Ever since then I've been keen to visit any event or museum display that related to those difficult days. So I've got myself a large mug of tea and I'll take a looksie at the WIP thread. I'm just glad that I've earned an extra hour, due to the clocks changing this morning, as I'm sure it'll take me that long to read the build thread. Please, please, please bring it to Telford! Regards Reggie
  5. Morning Guys n Gals, always had a soft spot for Twotters, they an't a Beaver but they're the next best thing! Regards Reggie
  6. Hi Jurgen, fabulous work, as ever. Don't suppose you could let us know which truck forum you frequent, so we can continue to follow your work? You'll be missed here. Regards Reggie
  7. Hi MAd Steve, I remember seeing Tony Pond's wonderful TR7 V8, in the 1980 RAC Rally suffering damage after hitting a feeding station in the lions enclosure at Longleat! I next saw him at the 1983 Manx Rally (always my favourite event), where he was in the Rover Vitesse, and it dropped a drive shaft. Then when I was at the first stage at the 1984 RAC, his crashed his Rover Vitesse! The following year (I think) he was in the stunning Metro 6R4, where I saw him come third in the RAC. Great memories of cars that made proper noises but the greatest sounding Rally cars of all time, to me have to be; 3, in third place the wonderful Ford Escort 2, in second l'd place the amazing Metro 6R4 1, but in first place, there can only be the Audi Quattro S1! Sorry, I need to have a moment to myself now!!!! Regards Reggie
  8. Hi HL-10, lovely recreation of the Bell 47. I was a fan of the TV series but was most surprised when I watched the US re-runs, when compared with that shown by the BBC, as the US version has 'canned laughter', which just doesn't work for me. Regards Reggie
  9. Hi There, going back about 15 years ago or so, my partner of the time did a couple of photoshoots for Streetfighter magazine. The results were great but inappropriate for this thread! Regards Reggie
  10. Hi There, I love the work shown on these threads and seeing something very different from most model builds. I always like the quirky designs that the French manufacturers used to offer in the 50's and 60's. I was recently at the fantastic Bubble Car Museum, in Lincolnshire (well worth a visit) and I spotted a 66/67 Citroen outside. I think it's a Belphegor but I may be wrong. OK it was falling apart but would make a wonder diorama for some of our skilled members. Regards Reggie
  11. Hi Mike you can never have enough Mini's! Regards Reggie
  12. I reckon your Mum's got great taste in aircraft! Regards Reggie
  13. Hi Brian, in the 1980's, the father of my best mate Steve Owen, was looking to replace his well used, and not very fuel efficient Lightweight Land Rover, and bought a brand new Charleston. It was purple and black and it used about a quarter of the fuel! We loved that car and memories of Keith Owen came flooding back as soon as I saw this thread. Sadly, Keith passed away just over a year ago but his memories will live long. Regards Reggie
  14. And there was me hoping you were going to put Beaver! Please can we have this back in production? Regards Reggie
  15. Hi Phildagreek, have you tried the brilliant crew over at Kit Form Services? Take a look at this link, http://www.kitformservices.com/standard.html Regards Reggie
  16. Hi Admiral Puff, just reading your pot has instantly taken me back to Ringway Airport, to see this beautiful aircraft. This was the beast that brought Propliners to my attention, when I first started plane spotting from 1973, when I was 11 years old. Great memories of a beautiful aircraft. Regards Reggie
  17. Hi Mike, you can never have enough Mini's for me! Regards Reggie
  18. Hi Paulo, beautiful work. I have a sare set of tyres from the Revell 1/24 Mk 1 Cooper if you want them. Just PM me your address and I'll stick them in the post for you. Regards Reggie
  19. Hi Ian, thanks for the interest. Revell have done me proud by sending me additional bumpers (that are made for the road car, not the rally version) absolutely gratis! I explained what i wanted and why and asked how much, so I could order them and the next thing I got was a letter saying the parts will take about 5 weeks to arrive, they wouldn't charge me and, sure enough, that's what happened. Now the not so good news. My mum's been going through some nasty health problems for the last ten months and she's only just now managed to make a partial recovery. As such I've had to move out of my extension to the house (which includes my model room), and to modify it all so that a powered bed, and pressure resistant powered mattress can be installed, along with hoists, powered drip feeding system etc. So at the moment I've come to a halt and won't be able to re-start until mum's home (expected within a matter of weeks) and her care package has been activated. So I'm sorry for the lack of updates but normal service will resume as soon as possible. After all, we have to do our absolute best for our mums now don't we eh! Regards to all. Reggie
  20. Hi Colin, fine work and the reworked base really works for me! Regards Reggie
  21. Hi Roy, well on a positive note I must say that the quality of the wrapping looks superb. On a negative note, on seeing the images, it really isn't my cup of tea but well done in following your dreams. Regards Reggie
  22. Hi Codger, that was a great way to start my morning off! Regards Reggie
  23. My Goodness, even with my new specs and illuminated magnifier, I'd struggle to see those parts! Regards Reggie
  24. Hi Christian, fine work Good Sir. Regards Reggie
  25. Hi There, and I went straight past the place last year, on the 69th anniversary! Darn it! Oh well there's always next year eh! Regards Reggie
