  1. .How accurate is that grey with a bit of green finish ?
  2. That framework is exceptional. I would think its one thing making something that looks good to the naked eye but quite another , something that looks good under a macro lens.
  3. Piece of cake then , should have it done by next weekend.. thanks for all the info however looking at that Black model i can see i am already way out of my depth...I will see if Dogsbody can help with internal plans. Thanks again.
  4. Hi

Troy Smith pointed me in your direction.

I am new here and looking for

'Gold standard' Hurricane plans by A.L.Bentley, printed in 1/48th, with internals. ?

I gather they were in Model Aircraft Monthly Vol 4, Issue 11, Nov 2005 but the only place i have found this is amazon and they have sold out

I this something you can scan or link me too ?

    Thanks

Hey, I just did another look and I do have those Bentley drawings. Do you want all of them of just the ones showing interior detail?

      Hi Chris

I would like anything that shows fuselage frame work including battery and radio trays. Engine bearers etc would also be really useful.

Basically i am looking at a fuselage with all access panels removed

      Email address is  paddy@ducatipaddy.com

I really appreciate this, anything i can do to help in return just ask.

      Best

  5. "The radios, batteries and oxygen cylinders" Yes i wondered if it was boxed in or open to the tubular frame work. ie a storage space. "So why post up a WIP? " because i thought it might interest people however if its going to irritate some then they are better not to look . It will be a representation of a hurricane, i dont know enough to do any more .
  6. Hurricane experts, move along please, nothing to see here i dont want to offend ... I managed to pick up an aires Packard Merlin engine for a Hurricane build i have been pondering but close inspection says it would need a lot of work to convert to a Hurricane Merlin., then by chance i found that CMK do an Merlin III for the Defiant in 1:48 Thats gotta be a lot better start point so i have ordered it to see if i have any chance of cramming it into the front of a Mk11C Hurricane :-) If i cant then i might be building a Defiant soon....I already have a CMK Hurri interior but i havent looked yet to see if its any better than the original Hasegawa job..(what were they thinking when they made the mould for the fabric section of the fuselage) ? The problem i can see straight away is the fuselage plastic is 1mm thick or to scale...nearly 2 inches so there needs to be a hell of a lot of thinning of walls .......anyone got a good way of doing this, i did try a dremel once and it melted rather than cut the plastic I am thinking of taking the side access panels off one side ? what was behind that rear panel ? Spec
  7. Thanks for that Ian...maybe it was American police bikes ? that had the throttle on the wrong side ? i know i read something somewhere to do with the right side being the cavalry sword side so you had you right hand free ? as for laying the bike down and hiding behind a paper tin 3 gallon tank of fuel......good luck with that i have been riding 40 years and i still struggle with Right foot gear changes on early Ducati's
  8. Posted 23 minutes ago Here we are then, The Italeri WLA 750 1:9 A WWII US dispatch bike, military police bike and so on. I have left off the screen and the weather shield canvas fairing because i cant see what point it served. the bike has no controls on the right side of the bars (where you would normally find the throttle and front brake) but it does have easy access to a Thompson on the right instead...and an ammo box on the other side. The point is if you have a screen you cant then use the Thompson when riding....I dont know, maybe i am missing something.. This is basically out of the box but because i cant do leather finish i made up a rucksack and bedroll from an old rag and used a onion bag/netting from Tesco to make a camo net. the kit has 2x plastic boxes which cleverer people than me would finish as leather dispatch cases. Great kit, not easy, even picking this up takes thought because a lot of the parts will just break under the pressure needed to grip it. after 10 years i have now done a Spitfire 1/48 and this and that completes my re introduction as i take up the hobby again after lock down having covered Resin/PE/ scratch build/and airbrushing i am now ready to take on something a little more ambitious Prepare to see me fall flat on my face with a Hase Hurricane cutaway 1/48...
  9. Yea it could have been a bit darker, that was tamiya deck tan with burnt umbra oils .....
  10. All done I will stick some picture in the Completed thread later thanks for looking guys.
  11. Hard to say, there were some pretty bright blue roundels after the war especially those next to the white rather than red, compared to this yours could be a bit dark even, its mostly down to light .
  12. I think this highlights two different sides of modelling, both of equal value. Those who get great pleasure for years from building and displaying a model for the shelf those (like me) who get their fun from altering and enhancing. I struggle to get past the decal stage, by that time its almost finished and ready for the bin. To me its a bit like a really challenging Sudoku , great fun to do but once its done ?? Frame it and put it on the wall ? not really Been a few years since i built a frog, i always went for Airfix or sometimes Revell kits as a kid in the 60's bit like Dinky and Corgi, Frog and Dinky was the sort of cooking model
  13. As i said in the first post the chances of me pulling off a convincing leather finish is non existent, its important to know your limitations. With all due respect i have never seen anyone pull off a leather finish that looks convincing...not even using leather on the real thing so having cut up an rag i use to clean the car i have made a ruck sack and a bed roll and some netting from a pack of Tesco onion . Compared here with the kit plastic "leather" box the bike itself is nearly finished, just need to add cables and weather the whole thing watch this space thanks for looking
  14. Yea its looking a little "factory fresh" at the moment but soon sort that out nearer the end. interesting that you had an original. Dont see many over here except with the guys that do military shows. I did have an ex military Nuovo Falcone 500 once, that was also flat out at 55mph ........always been an Italian bike fan myself.
  15. We have wheels I know i am out of practice but i have lost count of the number of times i have "un" glued parts here including the complete fork assembly because i have failed to understand the instructions. Its really not clear where parts go and which way round etc. For example the font mudguard stays are slightly different lengths but you cant tell from the pictures which is which and if you have removed the parts from the spru for painting you have no reference... anyway its an old kit and it has far more going for it than against
  16. Well i suppose if we are being pedantic if they switched in 1947 my 1942 Hurricane is still a Mk.2
  17. Yes the aires v1650 doesnt say what model but i would guess its a 7, no room for that in here that said you cant see much at the back so i could doctor it, i am not looking for perfection....
  18. Yup its a 1650 so Would work with a Mk2 then... trouble is the Airfix is a mk1 so that means i have to go with the Hase...That said my skills are not that good so its likely to be a Hurricane with an engine on show...not for purists or rivet counters. Thanks all the same.
  19. Having built my first model for years in lock down in the form of a 1/48 Hase Spit with Aires resin i thought it might be good to build a matching Hurricane. Anyway aires dont do a detail set for the Hurricane but they do a 1/48 Packard Merlin V as a separate universal item and i think Canadian built Hurricanes used a Packard , Quick boost seem to do a bulkhead and fuel tank for the Airfix 1/48 Hurricane , My question is.....i have a mk1 and mk2 Hase hurricane on the shelf in boxes , should i go with one of these or go for the airfix Hurricane if i can find one ? I know nothing of the Airfix kit ?
  20. excuse my ignorance, i'm new here , is there an easy way to find your own posts. When i want to update a thread i have to trawl through 10 15 pages trying to find my last post/thread ? can it be put in a "favourites" list with a link ?
  21. I did the wood on the guys gun first as it takes weeks to dry and it looks like the new flat pack gun from Ikea :), i need to darken it down a bit, might look better when i paint the metal Fitted the engine. I have found that a lot of the fixing points are very small so quite large pieces have a small glued area, often those contact points are not flat and it really does pay to make sure you have good flat clean mating surfaces or you will be re gluing parts every day as they drop off
  22. Just a quick update. Unlike an aircraft where you can 3/4 assemble and apply paint, motorcycles are really 100 tiny kits, panniers ammunition boxes, engines, frames, wheels, etc and each has to be almost finished before final assembly. thisd makes a build blog a bit odd as its really all going to happen on the last day. I started of using Olive drab (tamiya) but it was way to dark so now i am using RAF green with a touch of black which looks a lot better. agin if you look at google there are dozens of pictures of the real thing and no two are the same colour parts at the front are waiting for cleaning up, paint and detail. Its really fun build and detail level is good but there is room for unlimited upgrade if you so wish.
