  1. Unfortunately she ended up at RAF Sutton Upon Hull Fire School. I have some photos of her demise but don't know how to post on here.
  2. All builds on hold at the moment, lack of momentum and moving house. Hopefully I will get the urge once we have settled in our new place, a bit more room than where we are now.
  3. I don't know why, but it has doubled up the photo's on the thread.??????

  5. Hopefully the photo's will be self explanatory. [URL=http://s1041.photobucket.com/user/ojayspbody

  7. Hi Tristan, They're not too difficult to fit, although if you don't do the decking as well, you will end up with a small step where the plating overlaps onto the kit deck. They do look better than the kit mouldings, however the kit drain holes need opening up to match the PE drains. Just a little work with a needle file. Gregg
  8. Finally got some mojo back & some of the medicals out of the way. Got to be a little change in the control and shaft runs, as realised the hull would be too long to fit in the car. I have broken it down into bow/centre/stern sections, that are fitted with powerful magnets recessed into the bulkheads. Maybe not ideal, but I wanted to use what I had in my spares box without having to spend any cash. I will post photo's when I have reduced their size to fit on the forum.
  9. Hopefully will get back on board this year. Medical problems & lack of mojo for the last few months. Gregg
  10. A little progress this week on the drive train area. Modified the SHG supplied couplings by cutting in half, and inserting into the ends of a brass tube cut to the correct length. Gearbox mounted on a base made up from plasticard & plastic box section. Gregg
  11. A little update. Control runs for stern area including rear dive planes and rudder. Gregg
  12. Minor work done in the last few weeks. Trial fit of WTC, mod the stern planes, prop shaft support frames fitted. Gregg
  13. Some work done over the last few weeks. Eduard PE side plates formed ready for attaching, WTC and assorted bits arrived from MMB & S.H.G. Hoping to get some more work done this weekend as she's just collecting dust at the moment. Gregg
  14. Took a leap of faith, and opened up the main hull to gain access to the interior. I had to be careful to retain the areas, where the locating pins hold the hull sides together. Gregg
  15. Thanks for the info Kev, got a copy yesterday. Nice piece of kit, unfortunately I don't posses a lathe, that the author used to make the end caps. Because there is plenty of room in the hull of the Gato, I will probably construct a water proof box instead of cylinder. Gregg
  16. The deck areas will be removable along with the forward side panels, but the latter need to be strengthened as they will probably be handled regularly. Using the kit hull attachment pins, and modifying the side plate attachments, I will be able to slide the forward deck area into place and know it will line up and be secure. I was going to drill out all of the deck grating, however after drilling several of them (not very well) I saw sense and decided to use the Eduard PE decking. This requires the kit grated areas to be removed, and support ribs to be placed in the same positions as the gaps in the grating. The stern grated areas also have to be removed & remaining structure supported with ribs. Next step in this area will be to attach the PE, and cut out all the hatches from the kit decking. These to be attached to the PE in the appropriate places. Gregg
  17. Many thanks for the kind comments and recommendations, however as with my S-100, I will not be building any particular subject. Being an ex vehicle modifier, I find it difficult to replicate anything completely. (must be the rebel in me) I usually incorporate individual items, from many different sources, then throw in my imagination. I realise this is not to every ones taste, just being me and producing something I enjoy. Gregg
  18. Having finally got to the end of a very prolonged build with the Schnellboot, I've decided to keep to a maritime subject. I recently got a couple of good deals on e-bay, a 1/72 scale Revell Gato Class Submarine with full Eduard PE Accessories, and a 1/72 scale Revell Type XIc U-Boat. As I intend to convert both to R/C, I have started on the Gato first, as it is the larger of the two so should give me some leeway for errors and learning from my mistakes. Initially my intention is to build only as surface runners, as this is a new genre for me. I understand it can be both difficult and pricey to convert to a diver! Made a start on the conning tower/bridge area with the PE, while I work out how I'm going to modify the kit drive train to be operative. Gregg
  19. Calling it a day with this build. Unfortunately I will have to wait until next summer to launch, as our local parks department chose this autumn to empty our local pond after 25yrs. These will be the last pics until then. Thanks for watching and all the kind comments throughout the build. Next project has started, Revell 1/72 Gato Class Submarine with R/C. Gregg
  20. The end in sight, electrics going in.
  21. Some practice shots over the weekend, not perfect but still learning. Replenishing/repairing crew busy at work around the deck! Gregg
