The first change that seems to have happened, for a non IPMS member like myself, is that a ticket MUST be purchased ahead of the Show. No cash sales on the door. Is this correct and does anyone know where a ticket can be bought?

It's been like that for the last couple of years and seems that it is a change forced on them by the insurers due to the large amounts of cash being handled at the venue. To be honest, it also reduces the queues quite significantly, and allows for much quicker processing of visitors through the doors and into the show.

  2. And I wonder why I decided never to use PayPal.......

Whenever companies force you to pay via PayPal, I only ever use "Checkout as guest" option, I never create an account with it, and this just reinforces why I choose to do that.

I much prefer having control over my bank account, and my finances and know what payments are coming out and what payments I choose to make and when.

I'm far from being a luddite, but little things like these, being snuck in very secretively, and sneakily do not do the companies much good in the long run.

  3. @JohnT I think Mike is well aware of this, but I think it still needs to be said for the benefit of others. Unless there is iron clad proof, anything said without proof is slander, anything written down can be taken as libel. And without a bottomless pit of money, I'm sure Mike and the rest of the BM staff would want to stay out of that pit of vipers. Passing their suspicions on to the relevant authorities along with the intelligence that their service providers have gathered across the multiple DDOS attacks would be acceptable, but naming the suspect (s) here in public would not.

Well, after another look at the system, Support have confirmed that it’s looking rather like a DDoS or Distributed Denial of Service attack, which are usually carried out by hacking groups at the request of someone with an axe to grind and money to spend. Someone childish and spiteful.

We’ve had this before a lot, and I thought it had been too quiet for too long, but here we are again. Probably the same deeply sad people as it was last time, that hate me and the ‘success’ of Britmodeller for whatever reason - I never did find out what I’m supposed to have done.

So. We have a few choices:

    • Give up and shut the site down, which is what they’d like.
    • Spend money we don’t have on a DDoS mitigation service like CloudFlare.
    • Spend that same money on tracking these people down and expose them for the pathetic individuals they are.
    • Soldier on and hope they run out of spare money to commission these attack.

It’s the kind of thing that really makes a mockery of karma, isn’t it? They’d all be too infected with boils on their necks and backsides, or worse if such a thing existed.

Any other suggestions? It would be too much to ask if we have a white hat hacker in our number, I suppose.

I rather suspected it was. The pattern of ok in the morning, slow in the middle of the day, speed up again in the evening, seemed to suggest an attack of some sort on the site. Sadly whoever it is just doesn't know when they are beaten. Just been checking, and DDOS attacks are classified as a criminal act under the computer misuse act, so whoever is doing it is committing a crime. Is it worth reporting it as it has happened a number of times now?

  5. Me and the wife used to have Scrabble Tuesdays. Every Tuesday evening was set aside to have a game of Scrabble. Haven't played for a while as we got out of the habit. But...I have a very, very, large vocabulary (I'm what's called hyperlexic) I would sadly, and invariably beat her. Don't get me wrong, she is incredibly intelligent as well, but in the 10 or 12 years we played almost constantly, I think she only beat me two or three times!

We also have Monopoly, Star Wars Trivial Persuit, and a number of small cheap quiz games.

Whilst I understand where you’re coming from. Ultimately unless you can say you only build civilian subjects, we all build models of machines that are designed to kill people. The only difference here is that the titan killed its operators instead of others.. I essentially go by the principles of if I don’t like the subject I don’t build it really.

They did not just kill its operators, they had paying guests onboard. British billionaire explorer Hamish Harding, French diver Paul-Henri Nargeolet, Pakistani businessman Shahzada Dawood, his 19-year-old son Suleman. Also including the CEO of the Titan Sub operating company.

Regarding direct connection of the Titanic, I am referring to a mother, brother, sister, aunt, uncle etc not a 2nd or 3rd generation down, someone who was around at the time of the disaster, or someone who has/had a living memory of the sinking and not a third hand family memory.

  7. Just showed this thread to the wife. We both think the army field kitchen is okay, no problems with that, on the fence with the pig carcass though. Where we both draw the line is the Titan submersible.

Comments about drawing a comparison with the Titanic are, in my view off the mark. There is no-one alive today that has a direct connection with that tragedy, and so it is not a huge gaping wound for families. Yes there are familial connections, but no direct connections. The Titan Submersible has surviving family members, is the subject to an ongoing investigation as to what happened, and other questions being asked about if it should have been going to sea in the first place! So no, no kit should be made at this time, respect for the families who lost loved ones in a tragedy that possibly should never have happened.

I use Tamiya extra thin for jobs like this. Place the 'cap' exactly where you want it, touch some cement on the join anywhere away from the windows,(using the brush in the bottle) and let capillary action draw the glue around. you can see the glue whizz round in a flash if you do it right.  It won't go all the way around so do it in about 4 places, 2 on front, and 2 at the back.

You should get a brief amount of time to make any fine adjustments to the position.

How do you go about blending in the very obvious seam though? That's the issue that I will have!

If John's method doesn't work out for you there is still no need to use the "black pseudo window decals".

Authentic Airliner Decals will do you a nice set of "photo real" cockpit windows (with or without cabin windows) which are a good compromise between clear windows and the horrible plain black ones.

    Dave G

Thanks for the info - however, as I don't work, and it's the only 1/144 scale kit I have (and probably will ever build) from my perspective it's not worth investing in any additional aftermarket products.

  10. I'm the middle of the above 1/144 kit and have been putting off one job as long as possible....

    Cockpit glazing!

Whilst it's good the way that Revell have designed the glazing as a 'cap' to be fitted, the cockpit windows are just a tad too close to the edge to be able to safely glue, and blend in easily. Any tips for this? Or am I just going to have to bite the bullet and use the black pseudo window decals provided on the sheet after sanding back?

(First and possibly only 144 scale kit as being built solely for a club comp!)

Why 1/35th when their Lanc is to 1/32nd scale? I can see many modellers being put off by this. How many AM decal manufacturers are going to cater for this standalone scale kit? Makes no sense to me.
    Cheers.. Dave

I would assume to fit in with the range of axis aircraft that they have made in 1/35, ME109, JU87, FW190,  so this make total sense from that perspective. The Lanc was taken over from Wingnut Wings  and was not theirs originally, so could be considered to be an anomaly. From the company point of view, they are obviously making money out of the 1/35 aircraft kits, so they are continuing to expand.

  12. I was just about to post that it appears all over the place, but does follow a logical number sequence of sorts. It's just a normal numerical progression 1, 2, 3... But the problem is they have removed paints from sale and left the numbering as is. So you have gaps in the sequence. One of the best places to get a fairly comprehensive list of paint Humbrol numbers and names (including all discontinued paints) is on the IPMS Stockholm pages.

  13. Popped over to The Model Box earlier today as I needed to buy some filler/putty. All I had in was some Deluxe Materials Perfect Plastic Putty - ok for small filling jobs, but not for what I needed.

Picked up some Humbrol Filler, which was technically all that I needed - but I thought it would be rude just to drive all that way, and walk out with just that - so an Airfix 1/72 Op Granby/Gulf War Buccaneer accidentally fell into my bag as well!

  14. @HOUSTON you cannot access this area of the forum as a guest. You must be a member,  and you must have the 100 post minimum, so posting elsewhere and giving the link back will not work. The rule/access is there to stop any 'bad actors' to use the modern parlance from ripping off members selling or buying on BM.

  15. Not had a lot of money recently to allow me to add to the stash, besides, I probably have too much in the stash as it is anyway (well according to SWMBO anyway....!)

Added a couple of items to it anyhow for a couple of club comps coming up in the next few months

Revell 1/144 Airbus A321Neo (Kit no 04952) - don't usually do any modelling in 144 scale so I thought an airliner would be a reasonable decent size to allow me to do something in that scale and still enable me to see what the hell I'm doing! Spent a bit more than what I wanted to at £32... Really could not believe the price for 1/144 scale airliner kits, could not find much below that sort of price!

Academy 1/48 F4U-4B Corsair (kit no 12267) - Korean War boxing. Now this was a decent price at under £15! bought this one first at a local store that has plastic kits as a sideline, they mainly concentrate on RC kits - then I bought the Airbus (oops!!!)

Just placed an order for a fair bit of masking from Hannants and will now await that stuff coming through.

Montex Mask set for Academy 1/48 F4U-4B

Top-notch Mask sets for Airfix 1/72 Meteor F8 & Airfix Spitfire MK XIV

Eduard Masking for Airfix 1/72 PR.XVI

LF Models Camouflage mask Set for Airfix 1/72 Tempest Mk V

New Ware Mask set for Revell Re-box ICM B-26

The two kits are for club comps in Aug (1/144) and September (any Aircraft from Korea or Vietnam of any Combatant) - thought that I might as well give them a try!

(Normally at this time of year, I don't buy anything as it's my saving up for Telford - all the masking just ordered, would have been ordered and collected at Telford anyway, so there's nothing lost in buying now - well except 10% collect at show discount, so only enough to have bought one more masking item so not a great deal of money saved/lost in getting them now instead!)

    Hi Jamie,

Have you tried Tamiya white cap?

    Hurri IIC WIP 29

It's not a capillary type adhesive and has more body. I find it excellent for gluing parts together where you might get a ghost seam. Squeeze a little out, let set and very easy to sand.

It doesn't say on the bottle in the picture, but the bottles that seem to be prevelant in the UK say that they contain resin suspended in the glue to aid in the bonding process. I tend to use it when I have large, flat surfaces to bond together such as older wing to fuselage joints where you have a plug in to a hole type joint. Gives a much stronger joint.

  17.

The undercarriage of the Hawk was (or so I have been led to believe for many years) in LAG, as is the undercarriage of nearly ALL British military jet aircraft of the same period same as Jaguar & Tornado. The mix above looks to be way too dark to be LAG - looks to be nearer to 627 Camouflage Grey!
