  1. And now to my Telford haul....

Lots of little bits this year, not too many kits (already done that with my pre-show Airfix haul!)

Many bits of masking, from the Big H, and quite a bit of primer and thinners from Ultimate products, plus a few other bits and pieces.

(And a book from Valiant Wings that I forgot I had already put away!)

  2. I'm not the same as I was at 20, nor at 30. However...try living with an autistic brain that's something altogether different!

Only diagnosed in June of this year, and approaching my mid 50s so it's something I've lived with all my life without realising. It's only the last 5 years or so I've come to realise that all my idiosyncratic ways are actually down to being autistic, and not being bloody minded about things. Being outspoken, being direct, having difficulty with emotions, not seeming to care about something and being more logical in approach, but having a cry at things that others may not (I tear up every year watching the festival of remembrance on BBC), I've come to realise that this is all down to my autistic behaviours and traits. The human mind is a weird and wonderful place to be, but I would not change mine in any way at all (plus I can't it's all neurological and not chemical....)

As well as a 4lb box of shortbread.

I could quite happily sit and munch through that little lot .. but my diabetes nurse would not be too happy with me if I did😒 One thing I do enjoy is a bit of really nice shortbread.

The 2 minute silence was well organised and very moving, you could hear a pin drop.

Sadly not where I was stood, someones mobile phone was going off during the 2 mins, and didn't bother to stop it either, they just let it carry on ringing away 😡

I believe the 1/48 Meng kit is well regarded if you are so inclined. Personally I'm happy to see anything in 1/72 these days considering our 48th cousins' dominance right now.

I have been hankering after one for a while, but at just pennies under £60, i have to seriously think about the cost due to not working! Let's see what the good folks at SMW have to offer or what the big fella in a red suit brings at the end of the year (big hints to SWMBO this weekend I think ...)

Will it still be the case that all rucksacks need to be booked into the cloakroom prior to admission to the Competition area?

I recall that being the case every year prior to Covid but the Competition used to be up in the Mezzanine and is now in one of the halls.

It's personal choice to use the cloakroom. There is, or was last year, a bag check area prior to entering the competition area, but you don't have to use the cloakroom.

Slim pickings on the Sunday from what I've noticed over the many years of going .

Due to various reason, I only ever attend on the Sunday, and only maybe once, have I ever had a problem picking up something that I had wanted to get from a supplier. I have never had any issues with obtaining anything on the Sunday.

Just placed an order with Airfix for a number of items.

Has become my tradition that I will place an order with Airfix just before Telford, for a few kits that I haven't managed to pick up during my yearly travels round the country, normally, it's literally just before the show, so it's delivered during the week after. However, just placed it now to save some hassle down the road. With the Hornby points scheme, should pay for a significant chunk of the next kit from them!

    On the way:

    1 x 1/72 Heinkel He-111 P-2

    1x 1/48 Hawker Sea Fury FB.11

    1 x 1/48 De Havilland Vampire FB.5/FB.9

    1 x 1/48 Hawker Hunter FGA.9/FR.10/GA.11

    2 x 1/72 McDonnell Douglas Phantom FG.1/FGR.2

Nice tidy little pile to keep me going over the winter I think.

And here are said purchases which arrived today (Picture also included stuff I bought on Holiday back in Sept whilst in Yorkshire, and for presents, as birthday was at the same time whilst on Hols!)

  9. I can safely say that parts 2 and 3 are just as good as part 1. Very comprehensive in their approach to the subject.

Part 2 goes into the usage and history of the type in RAF service, and part 3 is the elusive F-4J(UK) and has in depth analysis of those mythical paints! A definite must buy for any fan of the Phantom in British service.

If you set up an account with KLP, they will supply updates on the books, with no further purchase needed. So if any links chang, or go away, they are updated as needed, along with any updates to the books as any new information gets added or changed. Definitely worth doing.

And by the way, I have one in my stash,

Ditto .. in fact I've had 3. Two of the initial boxing, and a further copy of the coastal command Whitley which I have yet to get around to building, although if it builds as well as the last two, it will be a bit of a cracker!

  11. I would not call it incompetence. They no longer stock all items on a continuous basis. They do a production run, and that's it until they do a new boxing. If it sells really stupidly well, they may do multiple runs, but, they do not have items in continuous production any more. It's the same with a lot of kit makers now. Can't have stock sitting idly on the shelves. Doesn't make them money!

  12. Welcome - there is a specific sub-forum for modern aircraft discussions. It's right at the top of the forum layout! I'lll ask the mods to move to the correct area.

Edit... And talk about being a complete dunce:dunce: I re-read the question @Steve Hinchliffe and realised which magazine it was, I actually have it! It's Scale Aircraft Modelling (SAM) April 2023 (Volume 45 Issue 02), page 45!!!!

Here's a link to buy the back issue, and from the same page I believe you can link to get a digital copy as well.

  14. Thanks for that, and Airscale will be at Telford!

RB  are ones that I have heard consistently good things about over the years, but knew they had stopped production/trading so had not bothered asking/looking into them. So yes, it's good news that someone has taken on the line of tools.

I'm still unsure why the two Premier Inns in Stafford (almost next door to each other) are called 'Spitfire' and 'Hurricane'. There was a P51 Mustang that crashed very close to where they are located (on 4th July 1944) but not aware of any obvious Spitfire or Hurricane connections.

    John,

I've just looked at the Premier Inn website and the two hotels are respectively located in Hurricane Close and Spitfire Close, off Shackleton Way. There's also a Mustang Drive. It looks like an aircraft “themed” business park.

We've tried working out why Premier Inn went with the names, and never really came to any real solid conclusion.I guess they went aircraft names, that any members of the British public would know!

Now knowing about the crash, it makes sense about Mustang drive, but cannot make head not tail of any other connections for any of the other roads. Guess the developers went with an aviation theme once they had Mustang Drive!

Never book anything in or around Telford, I'm booked in at a premier Inn over by Shrewsbury. It's not too far a drive, and is quite a quick drive over on the Sunday morning. I've said this before, but due to a very high dislike of overly crowded places (autistic thing, with personal space issues....) I only ever go on the Sunday when it's a little quieter, relatively speaking of course... I know it's still busy, and I can prepare my self accordingly. Plus, with it being Remembrance Sunday as well, makes more of an occasion for me.

My bad, we're over in Stafford not Shrewsbury.... Oops:bangin: think I need to get SWMBO to knock a few more brain cells together and get me to start making sense.

    Or not!

I'm clearly lucky, as it takes me about 45 minutes to drive from home  to and from the show.

Nothing like sleeping in your own bed!

The wife wants to move, but I don't (another autistic thing, aversion to change....) And so I keep joking that if she is serious about moving, we'll move to somewhere in the Telford area. Make it cheaper for us to go to the show each year.... No hotel costs, no travel costs, etc 😅  She's having none of it though!
