Thanks, will have a look. Mainly looking for them in flying gear and was wondering if it might be along ordinary lines.
-
Strange that they dont supply pictures as it sounds like it could be a good site. Very much a hit and miss project am on as well. Will see if I can find out more about this site before diving in. Thanks so far for the help.

Interesting. Was wondering if any figures in 48 scale might exist. Have checked out various sites but choices are limited.

Hi all, Wondering if anybody can help. About to start on a 1/48th Chesapeake and was going to add a couple of crew members. Would the flying clothes they wore be similar to your ordinary Fighter crew. Ta. Drem.

Hello all, Have a feeling I may well have asked about this before, but am looking for the nearest Matt ( In Revel paints ),versions of The Fleet Air Arms Dark Sea Grey and Extra Dark Sea Grey. Any ideas greatly appreciated. Ta.

Have you tried just typing in The Serial on Google ? Sometimes will come up Sites with all the info you need.
-
Also, if you type in the name Vaclav Jicha ( A Czech Pilot ), you may well find pics of him wearing a jumper as well but not 1 you would like to try and paint mind you. If you have problems with this, let me know and I will mail one on to you. B

Am not going to say that the underside colour is .............................................., but I really cant see it being yellow. I know the picture shows it to be that colour but it just does not make sense regards an aircraft in the desert being painted so. Only suggestion I can come up with is the light hitting of the ground at a certain time of the day and so on. I am going to bed with a headache. Happy New Year to you all.

If its not 603, then I'm sorry about that. Regards the colours of the Beau, it may well be simply a case of what came out on the photo at the time. I suppose cameras in those days were not quite the sophisticated things we have now.

Have seen a 1/48th scale build of this scene many, many years ago and am led to believe it may well have been of a 603 Sq Beau. H NE400 springs to mind, based at Gambut in 1944 but please dont quotr me on that A very similar picture appears in the book The greatest Squadron of them all, but taken from a different angle.

Hullo again, Yes I remember our discussion. Being such an odd subject I was wanting to see what other people might come up with as well. Certainly some Chesapeakes were used as Turget Tugs around 43 as was the subject of my build. Am tempted to go with a single forward firing, keep the patches and as for the machine gun bays, fill them in or simply cover them with a bit of plasticard. Some of them were used as Target Tugs towards the end as was the one I am building. Thanks once again.

Me again. Finaly about to start work on this project but one more question for you. Regards the machine guns in the wings, have read various reports that the four 30 cals in the wings were later replaced with a single 303. Kit is going to be based on a Chesapeake in 43 so am quite happy to go along with the single 303, what do you think.

If its a standing around crew you want, am sure you will get them from Hannants. Even then, the odd crew member in the cockpit might not look to bad.
-
I take it you have tried Hannants ?

Many of these aircraft were seemingly supplied with American Radios by the time they were shipped to Britain. They were going to be changed ( Perhaps some of them were ), but it seems that the American sets were very popular over here. Steve, thanks for the pic. Yes it looks like a K Type and as I said earlier that because nobody can supply me with a picture of AL938, I will go with how I think she looked. The Vickers makes sence and would give it an even more FAA look. Roundels ( DONT GO THERE ), am going to stick with the early type. Thanks all again. Have a good Christmas. Drem.

Have just had a look at The Tamiya Wildcat tail wheel and think I may well go with that one Of course with The Fleet Air Arm having used The Wildcat in Service I suppose there would have been every chance that certain bits and pieces from other types of aircraft could have been used on others depending on the situation.

Hi all, Merlin put this post up for me as I dont have a clue how to go about putting up pics with questions. This project is going to be one of those "What ifs", as there are no pictures of Chesapeake AL938 I can work on. There is loads of info on the net but so much of it contradicts itself. So, when this project gets of the ground ( No comments please ), it will be very much based on how I think this aircraft MIGHT have looked as to how it was. Waiting on a few more bits and pieces to arrive before I can get started but once the Bah Humbug season is out of the way and get started, I will try to keep you all posted.

Strangely, have just decided to throw my lot in with hannants Xtacrylix. Talking to somebody in Wonderland, Edinburgh ( I should be getting paid for all these plugs !! ), and he said I should give them a shot and yes, no need for an Airbrush. Not in a hurry but may put this subject on the build site depending how it all goes. Going to be a case of how I think it might have looked though.

Big problems all over regards colour schemes. Started of in Land Scheme ( D Green and Earth ), but some ? were later painted in FAA colours. Bit like the interior, do I go with Silver, US Interior Green, British Interior......................the list is never ending. I do know about the matt varnish but not having an air brush or remotely wanting to try it thats why I want to stick to plain matt paints. Am going to go with my own scheme in the end but it would be nice to get some ideas from other people. If it n means the decals will show the film when finnished, will just have to go with it. Have heard Micro Sol and Micro Set can help with this problem though.

Hi all, About to start a Chesapeake in Fleet Air Arm colours but want to do her in Matt Humbrol cokours. Any ideas as to what Matts I could replace Dark Slate Grey and Extra Dark Sea Grey with. Ta.

Seem to remember that they also had a collection of wreck bits from various crash sites as well. You could go back every year and watch them crumble away because of the salt in the air.
