  1. Thanks John....I think I'll use the kits version on this one, and have a think about a vac-form one for the future..I assume the PR.9 canopy was the same shape?
  2. Thanks Will, yes, I see what you mean. Luckily the plastic is thick enough and may be suitable for sanding and polishing up.......I'll have a think about that,..it would be difficult to vac-form one that's certain!
  3. Thanks...luckily I have a good supply of Xtradecal and Aviation Workshop decals stashed away....r
  4. Quite a bit of filler was required to blend the cockpit section with the fuselage The glazed nose section incorporates side windows.vthese are incorrectly placed, bring a bit too high. Reading articles on builds on the Canberra SIG site suggests a way to improve this. Basically remove the glazed front section, then rotate the remaining part 90degrees. That way the engraved windows should be top and bottom..I've added some filler and will sand it all down , polish it up, mask where the new side windows will be, spray it black, add the nose cone...that's the plan anyway....
  5. A quick update...fuselage halves joined... One of my issues with this kit is the depth of the panel lines. Now I know that this is quite an emotive subject, but my take is that on certain Aircraft , including The Canberra, the surface was very smooth. Panel lines weren't generally that apparent, so in an effort to reduce their depth and overall impact on the finished model, I decided to give them a coat of Mr Surfacer 500. This does have a tendency to shrink, so is be ideal. Once nice and dry I sanded them back so only a faint panel line remained. I also need to do something about the rear fuselage strengthening plates....I have tried 5thou plastic card, but this wasn't that successful....
  6. Yes indeed, well I say yes, it will either be in 16Sqn or 3sqn markings. It will be Dark Green/Dark Sea Grey over Black. (With thanks to XVTonker who has helped out with my request for relevant decals)35 Fix? What's the problem with it?
  7. I started this a few weeks go.. First of all, the cockpit parts , with a bit of additional plumbing.... Painted...
  8. It wasn't just the tips, it was the whole wing from the middle outwards.....I built two at the same time for an article in SAMI a few years ago now, both heavily converted, one as a K1a and the other a B2.....the wings were the same, both were the original Matchbox tools rather than the later Revell boxing. Luckily both conversions involved a lot of butchery anyway!!Edit: actually they were both Revell tools....
  9. What Graham said above....the wing is twisted mid-chord so the wing tips at the rear point down..they should be parallel to the ground, as should the "Kuchemann" carrot. Fuselage shape is reasonably okay, but you do need to twist them wings a bit..... As for the Nimrod.....there were a few issues, AtoZee do some resin correction sets, for those if that bothers you. Do a Google search for Britmodeller Nimrod build which should direct you into the depths of the vault here....
  10. Hmmm, not so sure now. That sprue is included in all Hobby Boss Hawks by the look of it. As JAW says above that looks like a smoke pod. Not sure if that would be an accurate starting point or not...
  11. Certainly looks like it Gary...... http://www.hobbyboss.com/Uploads/201512/5684eb7b9c696.jpg
  12. Maybe, however the Avon 200 series aircraft had different ducts and vents mid-section to those on the Avon 100 and The Sapphire powered jets. Whether that would have bothered them or not though.......(Freightdog , or maybe Alley Cats, did a resin plug rectifying this in their GA11 /F4 conversion)Edit: I hate to think how long ago this was....
  13. The Pro-resin two-seaters are nice, apart from the obvious twin-tub part differences, they do look very similar to Revell's plastic though......
  14. Well done Duncan, an excellent 'fix' for the 'SUBS'! Did you ever build the Dynavector Javelin? A whole new experience in dealing them them on that kit! In fact I think I still have a spare set of the PE SUBS somewhere............
  15. Sea Harrier's? They didn't wear variegated camouflage like the Harrier though.......so how can that help you with a camouflage pattern?
  16. The world is your Lobster Pot Paul....seven front-line units used the T5, an LTF, and an OCU plus ETPS.Of the frontline units, 5 and 11 Sqns had NMF finishes, Camouflage and Grey schemes, the other squadrons were predominantly NMF, have a look at the Lightning vertical reality site, or Hannants for Xtradecal sheet schemes... I may do my 1/48th scale T5 as an LTF machine, probably in camouflage., though maybe in the experimental Dark Sea Grey scheme..or in 11sqn's experimental Dark Green scheme..............or "pink flamingo"......or.......
  17. Can't you use the kits instructions and copy them?
  18. I have a copy somewhere, I'll copy it and e-mail it to you..least I can do!
  19. Xtracolor's pink was I think called, RAF Pale Roundel Red, it looks like it is is Out of production at the moment. Regarding the shades used I think that these two Xtracolor paints related to the anti-flash shades used on v-bombers, TSR2 and the Buccaneers, NOT the latter use on 1980's aircraft. On these later aircraft there were at least two different shades of blue or pink used, sometimes on the same aircraft (Phantoms for example with replacement outer wing panels spring to mind!). Also, the upper wing roundels on CA's T17 may be too big......regarding the shade used, I think the colours used were a 1:1 mix of white and Roundel Blue, or Post Office Red. That would be my suggestion as a starting point anyway...Edit: photo added to show upper wing Roundel size used. I don't know if this was standard on all Hemp T17's or indeed if they were reduced in size during their career.....
  20. ....not very well! The nose shape is way off, the tail pipe area wrong, as are the seats , these are amongst other issues. A poor effort I'm afraid.
  21. Hi JohnThere are notes in the various Modeldecal roundel sheets, giving types and sizes relating to aircraft type. Over the years I have found the odd discrepancy, and of course there were many variations ......
  22. That is truly awful I've been tempted to get this kit, but I think I'll pass and stick to the old Airfix offering. Good luck though Calum, in beating the thing into submission!
  23. The wing to fuselage joint can be an issue on the Airfix kit, best solution is to glue the upper half on to the already constructed fuselage, thereby eliminating any gaps. Then add the lower half, with any necessary adjustment to that. Works really well.
