  1. Right; I've measured 4 Hunters, all different, a T.7, a T.8, an FGA.9, and an FR.10. I took three measurements: from the rear of the transport joint to the rear end; last, but one, panel line to the rear end; from the tail-cone joint to the rear end. In the same order, as above, they are :- 195.5", 53.25", 41.5" (T.7) 195.25", 53.5", 41.25" (T.8) 196.25", 54", 41.25" (FGA.9) 196.5", 54.25", 42.25" (FR.10.) Unless someone comes up with anything different, and remembering that Hunters were, virtually, hand-built, I'd say that it looks as though John Adams, and Frank Brown, were right.

    Edgar

Well done Edgar, thats a very reassuring result!

  2. I was having a look at all things Buccaneer and found a great site on all things blackburn buccaneer.

    http://www.blackburn-buccaneer.co.uk/0_Contents.html

You probably all know it but its new to me :P

Its a superb site Phil, and one that, due to its individual aircraft history and in paticular the weapons fit, is invaluable for any "Brick" modelling.

The Czech Masters Resin kits use pages from this site as references, so you know that they will be accurate.

  3. So, its 2:49pm, less than a week has passed since the model was placed in the care of HM Royal mail, and all you have to do is add navigation lights!!

I'd say "Bah! Humbug" if it were a bit more seasonal!! :santa:

  4. :speak_cool: We might as well have called it the "Lightning & a few other planes GB" ;)

Care to explain the amendments to the fuselage for the uneducated, Bill?

    Good idea!

All I've added are scoop intakes covering the NACA ducts and a "tube" vent! The putty filling is to cover the rivet holes drilled out - a la Neil "FGR2" Ashbeys suggestion! Works for him; NOT for me!!!

I'll add the other sides parts tomorrow, and then onto the cockpit.........ALCLAD is being ammassed!!

  5. I have just emailed Mr Two Bob but I can see me having spay the tail.

I'm going to need more Tamiya tape :undecided:

    I somehow feel soooo guilty..........

Jesting to one side- thats really poor quality Phil, I'm really surprised and shocked that 2/- could have it so wrong...not good at all!!!

  6. I've built one of those.....see SAMI...whenever!!!

It is without doubt one of the most straight-forward (I hesitate to use the E-word!!) vac-form kits I've ever tackled...I'd recommend it to all modellers.....

  7. Have now decided that she will represent a very early 6 squadron Toom - satin/gloss finish and those loverrrrly A type roundels.

Very much a wise choice - we need MORE toom Mud-shifters! AND Gary.....some Toom's in early Tacticackle Camo schemes often had WHITE Sergeant- Fletcher tanks; Tha knows.......... add a dash of brightness, with Blue Inert 1000lber's........Nice..........!!!!

  8. Well Bill.....

I don t have a credit/debit card (new bank account) so.....

If you'll bung me one if the back office (no smuty jokes Skii!) I'll send you a P/O whe the time arrives.

    Please...

    I'll take used fivers!!!!!!!

  9. Saw that last night... good news. I wonder if it's going to be a limited edition now, or whether they'll keep shelling them out until they stop selling?

This may well have been prompted by a query I had to Hannants on Thursday! I have some on order (have had some for some time) and asked what the latest was, but Hannants have no firm indication from Airfix, as to what their policy actually is on this.

I think that the issue of this kit will not now be to a pre-ordered set amount. I suspect that Airfix will issue a production run to meet all needs - bearing in mind that whereas some modellers may well have required half a dozen or more TSR2's they may only require one or two Nimrods!!!

That said, I'll gladly take "pre-orders" from BritModelers..........

    Cheers

    Bill

  10. This is(was) the definitive list of the "State of LERX". Compiled by the HARSIG, but prior to the GR9 converison's which may have/will have(!) lobbed a spanner into the staus quo!!!

"Running through the aircraft in serial batches":

    ZD318-330, ZD345-355, ZD375-380, ZD400-412, i.e. the original GR.5s, all have 65% LERX.

    ZD430-438, ZD461-470, GR.5A>GR.7, all have 65% LERX.

    ZG471-ZG476, GR.7, all have 65% LERX; e.g. ZG472 of the Strike Attack Operation Evaluation Unit (WAPJ v32, p108, c.1998?).

    ZG477-ZG4480, GR.7, all have 100% LERX; e.g. ZG479/69 the lo-viz sharkmouth of Op Telic.

ZG500-ZG512, GR.7, technically ZG506/77 was the first 100% LERX a/c, the final 18 off the Dunsfold production line getting this fit as part of MOD-95, other a/c in this and the previous batches be subsequently retro-fitted with 100% LERX.

    ZG530-ZG533, ZG856-862, GR.7, 100% LERX fitted as standard.

ZH653-665, T.10s, all T.10s have 65% LERX but with the frog-eye fire access points."

(And the little "Frog's eye/intakes" are Fire Access points BTW...........)

  11. Its damn complicated, but it has been done, and even a conversion to a T10 is possible - the Harrier SIG proudly displays 1/24 models of both a GR7 and a T10 on its stand (saw them at Telford some years back), amongst the most impressive models I've ever seen frankly!

You need a new forward fuselage and raised cockpit with 'bubble' canopy, lengthened tail with reshaped surfaces, different exhausts, new (extra) weapons pylons, different landing gear, then theres all the details, lumps 'n bumps. Its a Harrier, sure, but so much is new that to make a GR3 into a GR5, 7 or 9 (never mind the two seaters) would require an incredibly expansive and difficult amount of scratch building!

Not to put you off, cos the results when done well are fabolus, but christ does it take lot of work. One for the advanced modeller and then some, in my view :)

Incidentally the HARSIG's T10 canopy was manufactured from a plastic coke bottle.....

You'll need a lot of Milliput and Plastic card - but its do-able (and No! It wasn't me what converted it......!)

  12. ...and what can the Spitfire experts tell me?

I'd like to build one in 1:48 scale if possible... what would I need? :hmmm:

    Once upon a time......

    000_0447.jpg

Airfix Seafire and Aeroclub MkXIV/21 fuselage.

    Markings for 1 sqn.,

Now, only a handful saw front-line service - this was post war and its unlikely they were used for anything other than trial's. Anyway the cost was prohibitive, and there was a weight penalty, and the Meteor's were reaching Squadron service. 41 Sqn, also had at least one......In shiney silver with red-stripes......

The contra-prop 21's had a larger rudder BUT the larger area was entirely due to a larger horn-balance (oo-er Mrs!), it had the same shape overall. This can be achieved by re-scribing lower.

Additionally the larger Mk22/4 tailplanes were NOT used.

How do I know? John Adams told me AFTER I'd built mine as a SAMI article!!!

  13. Not sure if anyone's mentioned this, but the Airfix F1a/F3 suffers from a broken back, just above the air-brake, and the wings are truly all over the place!!

This kit also suffers from its age, the tools have simply worn out - time to put this tooling out of its misery Airfix! Its served you well after all!!!!!

Currently the best Lightning, mainly in overall shape is the Matchbox offering...and thats really not saying much!

I'm looking forward to MPM's offering - very much, it will form the basis of many a conversion from F1 thru to T5!!

    And for the F2a and F6, I'll just wait..until Trumpeter down-scale their 1/32nd kit!!!!
