  1. Desicions , desicions.... Looking forward to seeing her built Neil - top notch quality there in that cockpit, love the grab handles - very effective!! ! A couple of points.....The "Blue Diamonds" scheme shown on XF418 is not that that was flown on the real F6's!! That picture is of a re-paint on an F6A (or FGA9)... On the 12 Sqn machine (XF383) there was an article in MAM last year, showing this aircraft in the wrap around scheme, but with another Buccaneer squadron (probably 208 Sqn , or 237 OCU - I can't remember),but wuiith the fin flash on the Starboard fin transposed, i.e. with Blue leading, Red trailing!!! I don't know if this was before or after serving with 12 sqn (I'd say before - given the state of her as a Maintenance A/C!) Hope this helps.....
  2. I'd send it back Jens.....there's a dirty great big hole in the side!!! :whistling:
  3. Well, Can i add a WOW as well!!! A fantastic finish there Phil...very VERY nice!!!!
  4. Ouch!!! Luckily, I was aware of the discrepancy by Airfix on the F3 cable ducting - I know that this won't make you feel better - but at least your ALCLAD's sticking!!!
  5. Cheers Ted, I wanted my Lightning to be almost "factory fresh" (well, polished up for display anyway! )So used Chrome in its entirity - see pic's in the other Lightning thread!. I wanted to give some tonal value by applying a different "metal" application to the wing leading edges etc., but just cannot mask the already applied chrome -and its been on nearly a week!! (Oh, and as for "Airbrush displays"...I can well recall the master at work at various Model Engineering Exhibitions!!!) I'll have another go tonight hopefully.........
  6. Thanks Ted, Maybe thats my problem, trying to layer it on too quickly.........I 've re-msked the fin again and will give it another go later. I had thought about a protective coat of acrylic varnish - just to assisit in handling while decalling.... Incidentally, for the undercoat I used Tamiya Gloss black - from a rattle can - (TS-range?) It went on really well and polished up nicely with Micromesh.......
  7. I'm quite happy for that to happen!!! As if Gary!! As If!!!
  8. Its looking pretty good Ian, sorry that you're suffering too though!! I think I'm gonna have to give up on my Alclad "trip"!! It looks fantastic!! Until you handle the thing! I though that the second batch was better.... but sadly no!!! I'll give her another coat of Chrome tomorrow and see if that works...if not...... is SnJ still available?
  9. Yep!! On Hyperscale the lastest "theme" is unfinished models! Hell's Bell's...I'd need my own forum!! 1/32nd......Phantom FGR2 conversion (from revell F4E!! - little wonder thats on "hold"!), Echelon Lightning F6 (awaiting paint, and somewhere for it ti live!!), Spitfire Mk 22, 1/48th......Aeroclub Vulcan B2 (waiting for a paint job, and again somewhere to live!), Tornado GR1, Tornado F3 (both with cockpits commenced - a year or so ago..), Harrier GR1, Harrier GR3, Harrier GR7 (In various stages of being built!), Jaguar T2, Jaguar GR1 (again in various stages of being built), Lightning F3 (waiting for the bleeedin' Alclad to dry!!) Lightning F2A - needs a seat and Red tops added), Phantom FGR2 (needs its stores and stuff added), Gnat T1 (Paint) Hawk T1 (cockpit finished), A few Spitfires (Mk XII, Mk IX x 2, Mk 24), A Hurricane or two.....A couple of CA Meteors, a CA Vampire and Venom. 1/72nd ....this is where it gets a bit complicated......3 (at least) x Phantoms, a Harrier or two a couple of Vulcans....... And so it goes on!! I really should have a cull - and reduce to spares those that will NEVER get built
  10. I started converting this in 2000!! Resurrected as I note that questins are being asked about intakes and modifications to the basic Airfix kit..... First of all the intakes......I used a section of the "SAAF" slipper tanks and slapped a good dollop of Milliput on... And a fair old amount of Wetn'Dry The tail pipe blast plate was slightly smaller...the rear area was filled with Milliput and trimmed up. I've used the Neomega cockpit ..and can now complete this model as Model Alliance have issed a set for HMS Ark Royal.. I have read that early S1's had Martin Baker Mk7's, thoughI've only ever seen photo's of the Mk6 - as supplied by Neomega AND in the Airfix kit - and these aren't that bad....for a mainststream kit!! I'll try to post a few more photo's soon, and once my Lightning and harriers are complete I'll get the Halford's Appliance White out........
  11. I'd forgotten abou your Hawk too!!! Its looking pretty damn good - certainly one in the mince pies of the ne'ersayers who berate Airfix's little gem of a Hawk!!!
  12. You reckon? Phantastic build Phil!!!! I'm luvvin it!!! (And has made me view my Phujimi Phantoms in a slightly "must build" way....)
  13. Good call Dave! Luckily I have a pair of these.....from the Hunter FGA9 set FLIGHTPATH to the rescue! I have though seen a picture of a GR3 at Port Stanley -I think- with what looks like the larger (RN) white or maybe silver pods you mention, with the pointy nose... was there not electrical combatability/interference problems with the RAF SNEB/Matras on board HMS Hermes? Heres a (transposed!!!) pic of a fully tooled up GR3..letting RIP!!!!! And yes you can see that they have two rows of tubes....
  14. Customers are never a problem Col (even if they are at the other end of the country!!!) And I quite fancy a TF.X myself now!!! See what you and Zeke have gone and done!!!
  15. According to Nick - check out the HARSIG Faq/page on his SHAR1 & 2 build's (you are a member aren't you?) where he exp;ains all. On the kit itself there are parallel raised lines where the intake former section is supposed to fit. This unit should be fitted immediately in front of the 1st line. In all honesty - even after looking into the intakes, the difference is probably not that noticeable. Certainly though the turbine "shaft housing" does indeed need some work.
  16. The stores in the kit are pretty reasonable...I think that I will probably go for the following..... Inner pylons - the 100gal tanks. These are quite colourful(!) The pylon themselves were Dark Green (Its true I tell'ya!!), and the Tanks Dark Sea Grey over Light Aircraft Grey. The "Warning" triangles were red on a white background. For the outer pylons (Dark green again!) I'm gonna go for the SNEB pods. Matt Aluminium bodies - High gloss (Chrome - if I get it to work) rear sections with black nose cones. The rocket tube apertures will be given a thin application of wet milliput - to represent the frangible covers. I will most likely add the Aden gun pods, and maybe add a 1000 lb "inert" Blue/Dark Bronze Green bomb on a sctachbuilt centre pylon...
  17. I've approached this in different way's..the inflatable ones were indeed plastic card and milliput. Basically the intake shape with a thin "sausage" of milliput ariund the extremity. I then used Krystal Kleer to make them appear like plastic/fabric. These were generally dark grey with dayglo central panels. there was a valve on the fuselage side of the thing.... These Dayglo versions were again plactic card with crinkled seloptape on paper applied to give the plastic-ky texture. Sprayed Halfords white then plasticoat(?) Dayglo Red. The silver reflective strips were from silver foil and the black grab handles from black plastic card. For the hard cover on the SHAR 1 - its the Flightpath PE cover. If I manage to bugger up the GR1 intake mod., then I'll use a piece op plastic card with handles and plates from additional card. they do add a blotch of colour!!
  18. Additionally Matt, Flightpath do a couple of PE/Resin sets...for the SHAR 1 & SHAR 2; Includes loads of PE actually...the laminated crew access ladders are nice, as are the tie downs, FOD covers antennae, cockpit sills, airbrake detail....etc., Also has white metal Side winders/Sea Eagle's and AMRAAMs (depending on which mark) with etched fins ....pricey but mostly useable... Additionally I'd certainly recommend the Neomega pit for the SHAR1 (and...don't let on, but I actually used it on my SHAR2 as well!!!!) As for the nozzles - Airwaves, Pavla or Heritage do nice replacement sets......
  19. A phumbs uph phrom tphis phantom phan Phil- PHANTASTIC!!!
  20. More pic's to follow...BUT I've tried a new bottle of ALCLAD Chrome and touch wood (and tentatively a bit of my Lightning -guffaw!!), AND I think that it may have worked!! I'll leave it until tomorrow annd I'll attmpt some masking on the lower wings! Thanks for the advice on ALCLAD y'all!!! It may have paid off!!
  21. Blimey Chris, you've leapt forward 30 odd years mate!!! Luckily, I'm doing the GR1 ca.1969.....not a GR7/9. Anyways.... should I happen to bugger the thing up I can revert to my old "get out of jail" ploy..ading a blank FOD cover Mind you the "blowy up" ones aren't THAT difficult to do...
  22. Time Travel? WHO 'da thought it? No TIME LORDing this subject up I'm afraid, but someone could do an avaTAR DISplay .......okay thats enough already........ Harriers.....been very quiet in the shop today...but at least I've progressed matters somewhat..... Hatched area requires removing on upper half, lower hatched area already removed... Bell housing and compressor blade - I removed the centre section later.. Bell housing added in front of airfix's suggested slot - this corrects one of the problems high-lighted by Nick Greenall in the HARSIG Shar builds... The pencil line on the bell housing shows where plastic needs removing... Here it is removed, new plastic card wall added and the front of one of the kits missile noses added to replace the compressor blade centre cone
