Rumour or hot news..you decide.....BUT....last time I heard from our man in Margate(!) the news was that the instructions were being completed and packing proceeding in France!!!! (maybe a carry over from a contractual issue pre Humbrol's demise perhaps?)

Airfix 1/48th Harrier GR3
AnonymousAA72 replied to AnonymousAA72's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
Thanks for all your comments chaps! Its really appreciated! Thanks -
Fantastic Fred!! I think that you may have surpassed by old collection of Harriers in 1/72nd...at one stage I had in excess of 20 built - these were all based onthe Esci AV8A/GR1 GR3 and SHAR and relying heavily on Modeldecal sheets - the vast majority were built at least 20 years ago - and most have been reduced to spares - following a marriage or two, and three or four house moves!! I am attempting to replicate some of this collection in 1/48th scale - though I still have a few newer build 1/72nd scale Harriers. Thanks for sharing your pictres Fred, its good to know there are other Harrier Nutters out there... Harsig

Well Done Edgar! Its good to know we can finally dispell that theory! I have the GA11 fuselage plug, and AFAIK its not to lengthen the fuselage -certainly not on the Revell F6 (it could well be required on the Airfix FGA9 - but thats yet another story!) but to place the NACA ducts/grills and vents in the correct "Avon 100" position. EDIT: Looking at the photo - you can see that the rear wing root is identical in length to the part removed...So that SHOULD mean they are the same length.....

...and some second-rate Harriers
AnonymousAA72 replied to gengriz's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
Great Viffing stuff there matey!! You can't have enough Harriers.... As a matter of interest I reckon (others may not!!!) that the Airfix AV8B/GR5/GR7 is probably as accurate a Harrier II as there is...it may not have the finesse of the Hasegawa kit, and will need some TLC to bring it up to scratch (fin is too thick) LERX's a bit anaemic....tanks and "aden" gun-pods -yeuk!!!, but other than that its okay.... -

I'm thinking along these lines as it happens.....I may see if I can get my hands on another couple of SNEB pods from Flightpath...... -

I have a set of heritages nozzles - (others available from Pavla and Airwaves!!) as a part of the T4 conversion set, and as nice as they are - they are still solid. I wanted to open mine up so you can see inside them! As for the intakes - I've built dozens of Harriers over the years in all scales and its summink I do as a matter of course...I can then regulate the droop of the doors etc., Nothing wrong with these sets - in fact I'm all for them they do greatly improve the kit items - I just prefer to do the necessary myself - reaming out the nozzle only took me half an hour sitting in the shop with my feet up - very therapeutic as it happened!! -

A mini-update.......port intake has had some attention- auxilliary doors opened...I've started to add some plastic card/rod cockpit detailling Rather than use aftermarket nozzles, I thought I'd try to adapt the kits parts...here I've drilled and reamed the solid "vanes" out. Plastic card replacements will be added.. The nozzles been temporarily fitted! Still a long way to go......I'm not that happy with the panel lines, so they will need to be filled and re-scribed... -
What do you think Trumps next FAA kit in 48th will be?

The only Dynavector kit listed on Hannants website is the Skyshark!! A shame really, but hopefully others will step into the fray!!! -
Airfix 1/48th Harrier GR3
AnonymousAA72 replied to AnonymousAA72's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
Thanks Sean..1/48th scale.. -
The story is probably more interesting than the finished model (he added modestly!!). I started to build this particular model in 2002 for the Harrier SIG's SWM2002 display "Falklands 20th anniversary!". Needless to say it never made it! So it remained, built but in undercoat until a year or so ago when I removed the chin transponder and sprayed it white - in preparation for its "Winter 86-ish" deployment to Bardufoss - but I never finished that either..so two weeks ago - when I started my GR1 - I decided to take the whatname by the thingeys and get her finished for my Model club's Theme night - Falklands 25. So the tranponder was re-applied, Blue Eric added and somewhat controversially(Dave?) WHITE RN Mk 7 Rocket pods!!!......... Still a few additions required, but I had to take her to the club last night as she was.... Paints from Xtracrylic - (available at any good model shop!! ) Decals from Aztec(?), Seat is from Paragon..... So here we have XW919 Red "03" .....

I'd love to see that 1/32nd AV8B/Harrier atually released..however, a Jagular (especially the twin-sticker!) will do rather nicely!!! And that would be followed by a Buccaneer and Lightning ( about time someone resurrected THOSE rumours!!!) - oh and as Greg says ...an RN/RAF Phantom....... As for 1/48th scale..what we REALLY need is Trumpeter to issue a Tornado GR4 or F3!! If necessary AFTER the Sea Vixen, Scimitar, Attacker....................................!!! In 1/72nd ALL of the above!!! -
Buggered if I know what you're on about...
-
yeah...but apart from that....?? :whistling:

I find all of my resin parts fit (titter ye not Mrs...) , though mainly after I've walloped them into shape with a hammer.....
-
Okay Mike, I'll get some more in..I'm doing a Tamiya order next week..... Cheers Bill
-
Don't worry about me Mike - they'll sell okay!! Not seen the Aires FG1 (Not FGR1!!!! Grrrrr!!) cockpit so can't comment on it - but additionally to what Dave says the rear instrument panel was different as well... The FG1 rear 'pit was by all accounts very similar to that of an F4J...... (AND...some FGR2's - those in the XTxxx range of serials were dual controlled/twin stickers and the rear 'pit had basic flying controls- these are NOT included in the Aires set.......) What IS in the BB set, any chance of some piccies? Cheers Bill

Kevin (Brigade Models) had a couple in the shop last week - they went back to the wholesaler PDQ!! Nice - but not worth that kind of money......
-
Spooky indeed.....Tamiya Flourescent in a rattle can.......
-
All self explanatory....retails at £12.70. I know most of you have already started your RAF tombs(!) BUT, these are rather nice..... If anyone wants one - PM me or leave a message on the Beaneys page..Normal Brit Mod discount of 10% applies (which should pay for postage & packing!)

And guess what else I'm building at the moment - I managed to get the Dayglo on yesterday! Photo's to follow on WIP later today. There was a good article in SAM in the eighties, I'll see if I can find it, plenty of variations on the colour scheme ....Silver with Yellow T-Bands, Dayglo Orange and Silver, then the silver was replaced with Medium Sea Grey (or maybe Light Aircraft Grey?), then they went to the Red White & Grey 4FTS scheme. And of course there was the "Yellow Jacks" and the "Red Arrows". AND as the silver aircraft were painted in Aluminium paint - there's no need to fret over a metallic finish - so ALCLAD nightmares here...?????????

Scale Aircraft Modelling availability - or lack thereof?
AnonymousAA72 replied to jenshb's topic in Magazines & Books
I've had my complimenntary copies of MAM, SAMI and SMI (one of each), but not my "stock' MAM's of SAMI's!! Hmmmm...bleedin' Fed Express again!! -
I think she looks great Ian!! I've stripped mine down to bare plastic!!! I'm giving up on ALCLAD for the time being - well, I say giving up, I'm going to spray the airframe with one of Tamiya rattle cans (not sure which) and then I'll add a few panels with an ALCLAD - not sure which!! I can understand this "Dodgy" ALCLAD batch , but I'm in South East England, and you're the other side of the Atlantic!!!!
