  1. Thats a great recovery Ian! Well done........
  2. Yes! Decals are vastly improved and include decals for a camouflaged 2Sqn machine, a grey 56 Sqn machine and All blue 92 Sqn. Only real problem is the main wheels...the Hasegawa kit provided the correct FGR2/FG1 type wheels - albeit in white metal and rubber! The Revell kit is just plastic and the wheels are inaccurate. AND.....its well worth treating yourself to AIRES recently introduced resin cockpit set!!
  3. I cheat!! I tend to use Halford's white primer .. though this can/does tend to obliterate any details. Its a good shade in that its not pure white......I've also been using (and more recently Halfords appliance White - a lot glossier and a lot whiter!!)
  4. A bit of progress - mainly internally......... ..and externally on th epanels. One fuselage half has been primed thanks to Halfords, to highlight problem areas. I'll do the same with the other half too...
  5. Another Phlawless Phinish there Phil!! Phantastique!!!
  6. ...So, it IS possible to Airfix's Buccaneer then.....!!!!! Excellently executed Steven! Well done and thanks for sharing.....
  7. Thought I'd add my 2/- worth here....The Airfix hawk has had some incredibly un-just criticism, yet it remains well within the range of most modellers to make a show stopper!! (that was more like 2/6 worth there actually....) As for the canopy, It has been criticised for being too thick, but, using wet and dry and micromesh, you can sand it down to a more acceptable scale thick(thin?)ness......polish it up gently, with Duraglit/Brasso and dip in Johnson's clear.............The MDC will stand out with out the need to paint it.....though of course one can, if one wishes.....
  8. A great shame to see XV571 there too.....all so unnecessary......
  9. I'd like to add my "thumbs up" on this baby! Gorgeous! As for Dynavector kits, they're getting as rare as hen-teeth now, so if you come across one - snap it up!! And Mike, If you DO want another Skyshark, let me know ASAP....they're still listed at the big "H", but won't be for long.....
  10. Phelicitationous Phabulations on a Phab Phinish.... Just by coincidence, I came accross an old Scale Models in the shop this morning; Dated Feb 1993 and attracted by the heading "VULCAN VALHALLA XH558 Retires...for now! Hmmmmm......... Anyway also included was a two page spread "TIGERS go out...The demise of the Phantom in RAF service - and 74 Squadron!" And included are a couple of air-to-air shots AND clearly on view are YELLOW/PINK walkway markings on the upper wing of W.Cmdr's XV474 "T" and most likely XV499 "I". However....on XT910/"E" the walkway areas APPEAR to be white.................. I'll try to scan some pic's in this evening........
  11. :whistling: Yes, I suppose I should - having just seen him on TV!!!!
  12. A fantastic and informative programme.....I watched it enthralled - even if it did include a nervous Brummies!!! Well done , and keep up the fantastic work!! WE appreciate it!!
  13. Thanks - there's a helluva lot of cleaning up to be done - but I'll have a better picture when the other side is done......
  14. It was a new one on a lot of us!!! ...check out my thread in Freightdog's thread in Traders......its on their Vulcan/Neptune decal sheet.....
  15. Hi Joe, No not '558 I've already started to scratch build the 300 series nozzles..... I'm thinking '607 in that weired four-tone wrap around!!! A bit of progress on the jet pipes - Milliput added and one side filed down. Actually I think that they look a little too small - I may need to add a bit to beef them up - I'll see what they are like when the other side's done......
  16. Update time, been messing about with plastic card and odds and sods..but one fuselage half seems to be taking shape...... First off the opened up forward nozzles. The vanes on the left hand nozzle have been added from thin plastic card..... Cockpit details being added - with the seat in you won't see too much anyway...... Nozzle added for effect.... I'll probably need to back the grill to avoid see-through..
  17. Was always a bit skepticackle anbout these...having heard some none-too-complimentary reports on them - though how anyone could regard them as anything other than a vast improvement on the kits offering is beyond my comprehension! They look good!!! And as I'm now thinking about my Gulf War 1 20th anniversary models (..... only 4 years to go!!!!) I may get myself a set in.... Very nice Nige., I'm really looking forward to seeing her built!
  18. Thats ok, must get "Red 16 " back off of Nick.....anyway any news on "early SHINY Harrier decal's?" My GR1 is progressing (slowly, but progressing nonetheless!!!) Cheers Bill
  19. yes......(finished 2002 as per Nick Greenall's notes ) I used Modeldecal codes and overpainted them in Red and yellow -my initial attempts at printing my own were'nt successful - though i still have that decal sheet somewhere.......
  20. "So, the question is does anyone know if it's possible to use the Aeroclub Lightning F3 kit as a base for this conversion, indeed has anyone actually done this?" I did it Karl, but in reverse!! A good few years ago I had the Aeroclub T4/5 kit - and built it , and then Airfix issued their F1/3 and F2a/6 kits...which, and as good as Aeroclub's kits were when they were issued , made them look slightly dated! So, I proceeded to scrap the Aeroclub kit, salvaging the nose section only, and attempted to graft this onto an Airfix F3 .....the Aeroclub vac formed nose was far too wide, so I used the resin for the cockpit tub as the outer wall! I finished it in LTF markings (no photo's I'm afraid!) and was very happy with the end result - and then Aeroclub brought their conversion out!!!! Which superceeded any of my earlier efforts!! In effect their should be little problem in doing this conversion - BUT watch out for the Aeroclub wing - there's a kink in the leading edge where there shouldn't be - the F1/1a/2/3/T4/5 wing should be almost straight - compared to the F2a/3a/6 wing. Alternatively, you could always use an F6 kit and model a Saudi/Kuwaiti (or in "RAF" delivery back to Warton roundels) T55?
  21. Not too sure about that Neil! Certainly, latter day Modeldecal sheets (and Dick Ward's research was normally incredibly accurate) had them changed from white - as originally applied - to pale yellow and a pinkish red. Phil's model is a very late version - given its in 74 Sqn markings- which would put it in the early nineties when this would have been - if Modeldecal were correct- accurate. The Revell boxing of the FGR2 had the decal reseach done by Dick, and Chris McKee, (ChrisMac60) who I note is a member here...maybe he can confirm
  22. Anyway, I blame Colin at Freightdog!!! Right......another "renovation" (I blame Gary West!!) , this one (Joe "Mandrake" Dempsey, MAY recall...) I started back in 2003. I managed to almost finish it , but a divorce and a subsequent house move - or three - got in the way!!. As you may tell it has had a semi-renovation, it was originally in "Black Buck" guise , then wrap-around and then back to standard camo.... This is the state of play this morning... New 300 series jet-pipes were required, and in lieu of anyone issuing a resin set, I decided to try (not for the first time) to make my own - using plastic tube and card I've since plastered some Milliput over the outer areas and these will be sanded down when dry.....watch this space!
  23. I most certainly will John!! Me?Well many (Many!) years ago I came across the 1/72 Hasegawa Mk1 Spitfire - the only alternative then was the Revell I/II or Frog Va/IIa? Pre Airfix's Vb or I, so I set about (along with Bowyer's "Fighting Colours") building any 19Sqn Mk I I could mange to finish. With a little handpainting I could do the "19" on the fin (in yellow) , and by changing the serials could easily build a nice selection from 19 Sqn.... So......It will now be a lot easier to achieve this in 1/48th.......bring it on I say!!!!
  24. Don't ya just hate people that can use Alclad!!!! Fantastic build there Gary - what we need is a "Tiger meet!"""
