  1. I started to do such a conversion a year or so ago - and I'm afraid to sasy that its still unfinished!!! I'll see if I can find some photo's and post them. From memory I think I used a large amount of Milliput to re-profile both the nose area and the fairing aft of the cockpit, and had to re-build the tailpipe area (T7's and T8's had Avon 100 small bore engines - with para fairing......I also planned on using an Aeroclub vac-formed canopy - Matchbox's version is woefully thick and is the wrong shape.
  2. Paint was aplied in a hurry and it seems that in many cases, not all were fully painted. An F5 of 34 Sqn (WP130/"S" which featured in the SAM free decal sheet - 20 odd years ago!!) only had Yellow/Cream/Mid-stone - i.e. not black! applied on ots upper surfaces, and the wing stripes didn't match up either! I'd be surprised if this was the only anomoly!!!! As for doors - One could assume that the paint was applied with the undercarriage deployed and as it would have been difficult matching the stripes, maybe some didn't bother?
  3. Hi Craig, Not wishing to start a flame here, nor to add fuel to any conflagration BUT, what did you base your original comment on? Cheers Bill
  4. Just a quick update.....I've decided to pull my F3 build from the GB, as I have no chance of completing the thing in time. I will finish the little so and so off - but later in the year! This will hopefuly allow me a bit of concentrated time to complete the Harrier GR1 - We shall see!!
  5. Coming along nicely Len....................
  6. Hiya Karl, I use XA1010 as a starting point as well, but with a touch of yellow , or Dark Earth, or Sky - no real need to mix the paints that well, as the things often looked patchy..... Though for these I would have used Humbrol Enamel's...
  7. I replaced a needle bearing on a customer's '200 earlier this week. The needle seemed to work quite freely afterwards, though I've not heard from the customer if its spraying okay or not. It could well be that its tight becasue its so new. Even if it was distorted after insertion the girth (oo-er Mrs!!) of the needle should help the bearing retain its shape, you'd have thought? But it does seem to be a design fault - do other manufacturer's brushes have these problem?
  8. Thanks Chris - I have the Revel Aqua in stock; Their Matt Black is the BEST I've ever used! Only problem is their range of only 36 colours, though that is being increased....
  9. Its a worrying trend Julien. I spoke with the Humbrol rep this week, with a view of getting their acrylic paint in the shop - he's adamant that Humbrol enamels will continue to be issued in tandem with their acrylic's, but like you, I've heard some worrying reports from customers as to their quality following their production move to China.
  10. There was also talk a while back that Flightpath were looking at "doing" a 1/32nd scale conversion. I think that they dropped this when Rob Clement announced his conversion. It was a great shame that Rob disppaerared into th eether - not for the first time!!!! I have a Revell F2 (NOT F3) and it will need an awful lot of work to turn it into an F3!!! Probably better off cross kitting the front half of the F2 with the RoG GR1/IDS - and a rear fuselage plug to extend the length. As for 1/48th - one of my ongoing projects is to cross kit the Airdix F3 and Italeri/RoG GR1 (in the ongoing anbsence of the Italeri/RoG F3). A long term project!! In 1/72nd you really need the Hasegawa kit..as a starting point - with the Flightpath detail set.
  11. 1/48th scale Robin? Thats not like you!
  12. Build one? I have one on the shelf that looks at me with those sad cow eyes..whispering...!build me, build me, build me........." I look back, guilty at the fact that I have already cheated on her by starting the Classic Airframes offering........ :shithappens: ("AND, I'm beginning to get the gist of this shop owner mullarkey, and how the economic's work! I should be getting kits in to SELL , not build!!!) But a fantastic build there Mike...Very nice indeed!!!
  13. A fantastic finish..as usual Geoff! Very inspiring......
  14. Fantastic - you can't have enough Hunters........AND a IV Sqn FR.10.....looking forward to seeing this one proceed. With regards to your FR10 camera nose.....the front end ... it does look a little on the blunt side, maybe its the angle of the camera? Cheers Bill
  15. Weeellll..some progress since the last pic's... The fuselage halves have been added along with a few more coats of Halfords' grey primer. For the GR1 "pointy nose" I'm using a section of resin from...erm...summink or other, with a pitot tube fashioned from the needle applicator from an old humbrol adhesive dispenser plastered with milliput. I'll have some fun sanding this to shape.............
  16. Generally speaking, Aeroclub tend to be the only company making white metal seats, most if not all of the others will most likely be in resin... What seats are you after??
  17. Thanks John, It all makes perfect sense now - though I don't think I'll be changing my Mk21 again!!!!!
  18. That remark is offensive! Hobby shops in the UK DON'T set the prices, they are set far higher up the chain! WE are most certainly NOT out to rip you or anyone else off!
  19. Yes, I have that tome .....somewhere!!! ....also have the Verlinden "lock-On" with some great colour shots of the FGR2, FG1 as well as the F4J(UJK).... I can recall the time when one of the retired 'J's was "parked" out in the open at RAF Manston., and I swear it changed colour depening on the weather - ranging from a pale green in a thunder storm to a pale blue in a rare sunny day!
  20. Referring to the above, Gary (I haven't reproduced the whole item..hope you don't mind) many MANY thanks for sharing that info - very enlightening and helpful from not only a historic viewpoint, but modelling one as well!! Very inspiring..Thanks!! Now wheres that BIG Tamiya box and then Yellowhammer decals?????
  21. Phantastic photo's!! Phanks phor sharing... I really can't see the BDR patches you're referring to though, apart from the alu plate on the port wing root leading edge - which I assume is a repair. On the Tamiya kit these panels seem to be all over the (seemingly randomly) place, and are very, very noticeable - yet I just can't see them on the pic's???? Cheers Bill
  22. I'll play!! The kits okay....but with problems...I think its a bit too over-engineered , to allow different variants to be modelled, with a few fit problems around the intake areas.
  23. Most likely not Daz, but this is after all a "MILITARY AIRCRAFT MODELLING" thread, for wingy things.... What ya get for yer b'day???
