  1. I have a love- hate relationship with the CA Meteors....luckily I still have a couple in the stash, and will build them, regardless of what looks to be a superb effort from Airfix next year.. Incidentally, I live about ten minutes from Headcorn, had a great summer this year with the semi-resident Spitfire and Harvard doing what seemed like daily displays over the house.....
  2. I've started building up the sidewalls and am test fitting as I go along. One problem is where I've had to trim the consuls and the PE overlaps. A couple of panels have been consumed by the ever hungry carpet monster....... I'm aiming on portraying my Bucc., as an S2B, a Martel capable aircraft. The rear seat's knee guards are splayed, correctly, to allow the Martel TV screen and associated gadgetry. One thing I can't seem to find is some decent photo's of this set-up. I may have some pic's in the CMK 1/72nd instruction sheets, but these are tucked away safely somewhere!? Does anyone have any decent photo's of this set up? Either as a Martel A/C or as a Sea Eagle carrying machine?
  3. The extreme rim of the intakes were wood, not the whole intake!! I aim to do much the same regarding the Kentish Airfields too. I've started doing that in 1/72nd in the Meteor GB. I have the CA T7 in the stash, and had planned on using the wings off of Airfix's new kit next year, but I'll build the T7 as is, but with the addition of Barracuda intakes, I've built a few CA Meat- boxes and really hate the intakes..the Narrow Breathers are too short, and the fit is poor. Regarding the undercarriage, I think it would have helped if the locating lugs actually had corresponding slots that the lugs fitted into! But overall, despite them being a challenge, I really like CAs Meteors...
  4. Just a few more pic's and an update.... I've applied the P.E parts to the cockpit tubs and IP's. Its added a splash of colour....shame it will end up being 50 odd shades of grey..... I.P's.... [/url Rear pit with seat placed to assess clearances etc.,s Here we have the sections lined up... [/u On to the sidewalls next....
  5. Still not decided, but I think I may re-apply the extended wing tips, camouflage her and build as 12 or 208 Sqn "Op. Pulsator" . There's a great Photo in one of the books of a Bucc banking at roof top height along High Street Tripoli, Lebanon ....from the top of the UK embassy, with Union Flag flying.....that must've been a sight and a half!........Just need to sort out a Paveway LGB.
  6. Once upon a long time ago I converted Airfix's GR3 into a T8, using plastic card and milliput, plus crash moulded canopy's it was on ARC at the time, you may have seen it then. i still have it somewhere, stripped down ready for a refurb...I doubt I'll finish it off now, with Kinetic's is due.
  7. I had that set some years ago. The resin was okay-ish, but the canopy's were too big. I know Nick Greenall re-mastered the T10/12, somewhat superbly. Not sure whether the T2/4 was upgraded and improved as well. The original set had three different rear fuselages. For some reason whoever mastered them thought that the T4N/T8 had a bulge there - which no-one could find!!
  8. The inside of the airbrake would have most certainly been Dark Green by this time, I believe that the airbrake well would also be the same colour.....
  9. Very nice Gary, I must finish off my Kinetic FA2/Monogram GR3 kit-bash one day...
  10. I had a NeoMega set - one I bought a good 10-12 years ago, and I received free of charge, a pair of resin and rubber main wheels! I have no idea who made them, but they are good! I may dig those out actually...
  11. The aftermarket bits....... I won't be using the wing fold set on this one..but I have used the cockpit set. I'll post photo's later. It was very fiddly and took a few hours. Next one I think I'll go NeoMega!!!
  12. Yes, I had the Maintrack Phantom Sheet in 1/48th, in fact I may still have parts of it somewhere....some of the artwork was a bit "basic" but certainly useable..
  13. I think one of Airfix's early boxing's may have had these markings....
  14. Not that I've ever seen references to. The F1 did appear in WW2 type camo., and then Medium Sea Grey over PRU Blue as well as overall silver...but not the F3
  15. Resistance is futile..........my 1/32nd Echelon T7 is knocking on the loft hatch, straining to get out.....
  16. Handy for a long overseas deployment Gary? They were certainly used in 1982 when heading south....one observation, if I may, are the fins shapes correct? I can't find any pic's at the moment, but I seem to recall them being a bit more angular, if that makes sense!Edit: found this on the Gutersloh spotters site... Not sure if it'll come out okay, but it shows the shape of the fins a bit better...you may need to scroll down the page, there are a few 1sqn aircraft with the tanks.... http://sg-etuo.de/Visiting-Aircraft/RAF-No1-Sqn Edit/edit.....the normal tanks are surely 100 gallon tanks, not 170? , the Shar 1&2 could latterly carry 190 gallon tanks...
  17. These are "ferry tanks" and they did have four fins. I may have a photo somewhere...edit: also The smaller tanks had a pair of fins initially, but these were removed very early on in their careers.
  18. I think we all have our own mind's eye version of any colour, including Ocean Grey. In fact there can't be that many modellers around today that have actually witnessed it in the flesh! We do have some colour photo's of course, so I think we have to assess those, and interpret those for our own use. FWIW I only tend to use Xtracrylic paints nowadays, so when I do dabble in WW2 stuff, I use their version. Incidentally I find Xtracolor's Ocean Grey a bit too dark maybe..... As for Dark Green, this colour should be essentially the same shade as used postwar. There are and were of course variations, take a look at any colour photo of an RAF Hercules for example, but I don't think Humbrol 30 is relevant to any RAF scheme. When I did use Humbrol enamel paint- a good decade ago I'd guess, I never had any issues with their satin paint taking time to dry Graham!
  19. Looking forward to seeing your ponderings Jonners.... I have my shelf of doom/KUTA candidate FGA9 to consider.....
  20. ..you mentioning the decals Martin, I think I do remember it now. Were the decal's rub-down, as opposed to waterslide?
  21. A bit more progress on mine.... http://forum.largescaleplanes.com/uploads/monthly_01_2010/post-810-1262647464.jpg Nah....only kidding! If only it were mine!!! For the uninitiated, this is Mr Song's project mentioned in my post above...there is no way that this is 1/32nd, so who's kit? Some speculation previously that it may be Trumpeter or Hobby Boss.....whoever! When?!? And reading a bit more on various sites, Kittyhawk's Jaguar looks very much like the work of said Mr Song, certainly looking at the photo's that appeared on here, and other sites of course at the same time as the Buccaneer....so that is another possibility......
  22. Yes indeed, thanks Melchie. I've been trawling through lists of modifications on various sites. www.blackburn-buccaneer.co.uk is probably the most comprehensive, I know CMR used that as a reference point when issuing their 1/72nd scale resin kits. As you say, it's a blessing in disguise, maybe, that the moulds were damaged. I'm sure the good souls at Airfix, wouldn't , or couldn't possibly wish that kit on any sane modeller. It was okay then, but they couldn't possibly issue it into today's modelling world, they'd be slaughtered! That does of course leave the door wide ajar enough to encourage a new kit. I wonder whatever happened to Mr Song's 'project' . There was speculation that it was 1/32nd, though a lot of hope that it was 1/48th. That was a good few years ago..hmmm. I had hoped that Kinetic may bite the bullet, and that it would be the subject of their announcement at SWM. Sadly not. Still......early days! And please do finish your 1/24th monster off, and encourage Teddy to write his book...... Cheers Bill
  23. I never knew that Martin, I was well aware of the 1/72nd set, but not the 1/48th. It must have been issued after the 1/72nd set, I used to go down to their shop in Hastings a lot in those days and remember his Javelin sets etc., Do you remember....did it include the early bomb bay as well as the intakes?
