  1. Progress is painfully slow at the moment...but bit by bit I'm getting somewhere.......... I've more or less finished of adding pluming and gubbins to the main wheel wells, no real advantage in adding that much more, but I'll see what they look like when I splash some colour on....I've added a couple of rods to strengthen the undercarriage legs here Talking of undercarriage, you'll see here that I've drilled out the top part of the legs, luckily the lower part was already hollow. I had these resin/rubber wheels tucked away in the box too...so I'll be giving these a go..
  2. Certainly looks the part Jonners! Are you amending the wing tip shape? Certainly would improve them. The nose and spine looks pretty good. May have to get my KUTA Hunter out of the loft and re-arrange the spine too....
  3. On mine, I sprayed a section of decal sheet Dark Green. I then added the relevant decal, including the serials, and then cut them out and added them to the white painted sections....http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234951646-airfix-harrier-gr1a-two-gr3s-and-a-gr5-in-172nd/page-2
  4. Just the one, back in the day, I used each half as lower and upper parts and tried to fashion the other half with Milliput! It was rather heavy.......
  5. ..in fact here's a pic showing the difference. The upper red pylon is Neil's resin pylon. The one in the middle is my initial attempt at scratch building one , the lower one is Airfix's with double bomb rack....
  6. The RAF tanks were indeed the same size, whether under the wing or under the fuselage, however the fins were normally removed when fitted centrally. Airfix's tanks and pylons are much better for an RAF machine but note that Airfix's pylons are undersized. I was lucky that I had a set of pylons mastered by Neil Burkill of Paragon, I don't know if these were ever issued commercially....but if you look on ARC Neil built a T4 conversion using his superb resin set, he explains the amendment there....
  7. I've built the FA2, and have just taken delivery of the FRS1- unsurprisingly they share a lot of plastic, so it compares rather well. As Mr B will testify. they ain't shake and bakes! BUT they are the best Harrier kits out there - certainly in 1/48th scale.
  8. The colour did of course vary, but initially it does appear to be a more yellow shade, rather then the sickly green you describe so well..... For example....(Borrowed from ARC) Tamiya's XF yellow green is actually a bit greener than this, so maybe I didn't use that on mine?
  9. Actually Dennis I seem to recall a set of line drawings, you'll remember the type, in those monochrome days, with hatched boxes for the Dark Green and Diagonal lines for a Dark Sea Grey, in the old Airfix magazine showing XX111 in this scheme...I may still have it tucked away somewhere....
  10. Black, the hatched area should be black. Here's an early GR1, pre LRMTS of 54 Sqn...ca. 1974/5 ish... And here's my take on it..Airfix 1/48th kit with Paragon flaps and slats..
  11. Fairly rare, but not totally so, there was a 12Sqn Hunter F6 'hack' that featured this anomaly. I expect there were a few others as well...regarding Airfix's kit, I'd suggest using Alleycats replacement canopy to replace the squashed Airfix part as a minimum, of course that is included in the TT18 set..
  12. Interesting......the fin flash ion WJ715 s reversed!
  13. I was probably standing next to you that day Andy! I do miss Mildenhall's shows
  14. My first FRS1 is due to land this week. I may do this as an early Sea Eagle trial a/c in EDSG/White with EDSG and Dayglo Sea Eagle...but we shall see. I need to finish my FA2 and GR3 conversion first though....
  15. Here's my attempt at buiding an F4J(UK) from the superb Academy kit. All I added were some resin seats, wheels and a bit of photo etch....
  16. Its important to keep test fitting parts. Here I've taped in the cockpit and bulkhead to check fit and clearance. First without the two seats and then with them Checking to see how the seats fit...I've yet to check to see how the navigators blast screen will fit..that should be fun!!
  17. Excellent. Many thanks. Many thanks, I've spent ages trawling through that site, and missed that totally! Excellent !
  18. I'm currently building Airfix's somewhat challenging 1/48th scale Buccaneer S2B. I'm using various photo etch sets and plastic card to detail the cockpit, and am considering building it as a Martel equipped jet. I've been trawling through my references and can't find much in the way of photos of the TV consul used in the navigator's station. Can anyone point me in the right direction for some decent pic's? Thanks in advance...
