Revell 1/48th RAF Tornado GR1A.......
AnonymousAA72 replied to general melchett's topic in Work in Progress - Aircraft
When I built mine, I incorrectly, as it transpired, removed a wedge from the in between section. When glued together the transition was actually smoother.....although by now somewhat shorter than it should have been. Which is why this kit never progressed much further than this!, there is a moral to this story.... Shaun's fix is better! The lower nose is from the Italeri kit BTW -
Buccaneer S2B Airfix 1/48th

Cheers Col, it's a challenge all right, but immensely rewarding when it's nailed together. Some of the moulding is sloppy, but superb in other areas. It's as if the sprues were made in different factorys!! Hope to get some paint on soon....... -

A very BIG hammer!! Actually once the fuselage upper and lower shell's are persuaded to stay put, it takes on it's shape rather well. Airfix did a good job in that respect, BUT imagine a Buccaneer to the standard of Airfix's Javelin, or Sea Vixen OR even to Kinetic's Sea Harrier! Drool.............. -
Isn't it a great feeling when you've done all the hard work , you apply the primer and there's no tidying up to do? I dunno actually - cos it's a rarity here! Looking really good Jonners. She'll be a lot better too when the upper coats are on! And as for a Photobucket......sheesh, took me ages downloading FIVE photo's to it and then on to here yesterday!

I tried to sand both down on mine previously, it did improve them slightly. I had a Hobby Boss GR1 that I ended up trashing. Shame I didn't salvage the fin from that. It may have been okay, and more appropriate to an earlier mark(?) even if the rest of the kit wasn't!!

Airfix Harrier“s in 1/72 (T4 and T10)...
AnonymousAA72 replied to Andre B's topic in Aircraft Cold War
A brand new T10/12 from Airfix would be nice....but so too would a whole host of aircraft! I recently started to convert a GR9 into a T10 bu using the nose section off of an old Airfix T10, which as you say is hard to source nowadays. Italeri also did a two seater, that could also be used. As for the T2/4, thecSword kit is decent enough...and as Richard E says...Heritage do offer conversion sets. -
Great start Shaun, I think the Tornado looks best with wings swept and belting along ..like a IX Sqn bat outta hell! You've backdated it to a GR1, I plan to do the same soon. I seem to recall in previous threads that the fin cap needs a bit of refinement as its a bit too bulbous, and does the heat exchange fairing on the fin need sanding back a bit for a GR1?

The new wingtip, with rear light fairing The needle in the nose faired in giving a nicesharp point. A bit of fine tuning here I think... And where we are currently, with tail on...primer on soon... -

Thanks Phil.... just a bit of an update....if photobucket will load that is..... First of all the flaps and associated fairing. The flap is the kit part, filled with Milliput, A lot of fettling both top and bottom to get a fit... The flap fitted. A bit of cleaning up to do. I've aded the rear hige panel door and removed the 5th vortex generator....a feature of the S2B -

Scroll up to post 11....... -
Just one minor point Mike, the glazing that is missing is for the LRMTS not the FLIR.....

This aircraft has I think, dual identity.....she's in "92 Sqn" markings on the port side, and 111 Sqn markings to starboard. Be nice to get some specialist decals for this........ http://www.airshowspresent.com/english-electric-lightning-t5---xs458-cranfield.html

.The Quickboost replacement part is a straight copy of the Trumpeter part, so is too deep. It was so to compensate for the short Trumpeter fuselage. If used the join line should be filled and placed a couple of mm forward. Using the QB part also makes the intake bullet too far back. It's only 2mm or so but does throw everything out. Saying that, it's easy enough to mount the intake bullet and housing a bit further forward to compensate. It will improve what is otherwise a fairly decent kit. I have the 1/48th "inbound" and am looking forward to building it immensely. I expect to be getting a couple at least.... -

Thanks Pete, At Sea, Bob, Jim and Eng., for your kind words and encouragement! I hope to post some photo's later this evening on the progress made so far...mostly on the airbrakes and flaps. i may even get some paint on before Chrimbo...... Cheers Bill -
If we're talking about 1/48th , the airbrake on the Airfix Shar is correct. It's too small for the GR3....As far as I can recall their 1/72 Shar's air brakes were okay....
-
Love that anti-flash white finish......just one observation shouldn't the pale red on the fin flash be at the front?
-
The rear of the airbrake did overlap the fuselage as per the kit.

Additionally, it's advisable to not to glue the rear of the cockpit section to the intake section. By not doing this it allows the upper decking to fit. Check out General Melchett's pinned build at the head of this section.... -
Nicely finished off Spence....

I now have the wings on! I have started the job of replacing the wing tips...with laminated plasticard. These have now been plastered with Milliput and will be sanded down to the correct shape, and nav.light lenses added... And we have a Buccaneer shaped plastic "brick"......- 105 replies
