  2. Hello! I'm presenting my latest finished model - the F-35A Lightning II from Tamiya in 1/72 scale. This kit has beautiful details so I used only resin seat and wheels from Eduard. Painted with MRP and Bilmodel paints. Cheers!

  3. This is Tamiya's venerable 'early production' M4 built from the box. There's lots of things you can do to improve this kit, but I wanted to concentrate on the paint and weathering so I just added a bit of stowage. I also shortened the rubber band tracks to give them the right amount of tension. Unusually for Tamiya the decals were a real pain and just wouldn't adhere to the surface, even under a coat of varnish. I gave up, ditched the unit codes and replaced the stars with some aftermarket ones. The model represents a tank from the 756th Battalion which supported US attacks on the Cassino front in early 1944.

  5. Hey again! I'm back with my first all-new model to be posted here on Britmodeller. This time, it's my Trumpeter 1/48 Vickers Wellington Mk.Ic, painted as machine number T2838/R, which was based at RAF Luqa in Malta. According to photos of the real 'Wimpy', the raider had sustained heavy damage during a night raid over Italy on the 7th of December 1940, which caused the airplane to roll uncontrollably and then overshoot the runway upon landing. The Welly eventually ended up in a run-down quarry with its fuselage split in half. Notice how the rubber life raft inadvertently deployed, not an ideal place to use it at all! This kit was issued in 2006, with a photo slideshow and website article about the build available here: https://malcsmodels.wordpress.com/2024/11/14/building-trumpeters-148-vickers-wellington-mk-ic/

  6. 2024, finally completed this one. I started many years ago to lobby Airfix on every page I could for a Mk XIV, with the option for an added larger fin for a MkXVIII option. They finally did it! (I'm sure I wasn't the only one asking for it!) But it’s taken a few years to get around to building and finishing one of them - and I think there's been 3 boxings of this kit since. This is without doubt my most favourite Spitfire mark and paint scheme - I love the big, bright post war roundels on camo. This is a 28 squadron machine based at Kai Tak in late 1950 – with Korean war theatre stripes. This kit has had some not great reviews – poor fit in places, particularly the fuel tank cover. I didn’t find this too bad. There are some thought out parts and fitment – it’s well designed, I thought. My only negative about the kit is that some of the parts are a bit soft in detail and require resin replacements – the gun barrels are the worst. As it happens, I don’t replace these on this kit, but I will in future. I really tried very hard to make this a very beat up and dirty airframe. There are some reference photos of this machine at Kai Tak looking very untidy indeed. But looking at my final photos I think I could have gone a lot further! My build was from the box except the following: Drilled out exhausts. Resin wheels. Under fuselage camera ports x2. Re-scribed upper and lower wing panels. The Airfix kit is really a Mk XIVe and the outer .303 bays are still marked. On the XVIII these are not there as the wing was a strengthen redesign with the space being used for survival equipment. Under wing signal lamps rather then centre fuselage. I used the kits rockets to provide the rails only, chopping off the actual rockets themselves. PE seat belts as usual. Aftermarket decals were used; XtraDecal sheet X48230 to represent a machine from 28 squadron in late 1950. The black and white stripes are hand painted. Here's some photos...

  7. I said the decals would look better once they had settled, but really I was trying to convince myself. I was not at all confident. I am amazed at the improvement. They have had 24 hours to settle, everything has had a gentle going over with a wet 8000 grit polishing pad, a wipe with a lint-free cloth moistened with diluted isopropyl alcohol and then a light coat of rattle can lacquer to seal them and unify everything. The only casualty has been one of the tiny C.G stencils which lifted and disintegrated under the polishing pad. I am not too upset as they are so tiny that once I've applied some weathering and dirt I suspect they will all but disappear anyway. I certainly have not seen any sign of them in reference photos. Back in the day I would have stopped once the decals were done. Though I would have been calling them transfers. Now I'm thinking that I have a blank canvas to bring to life with detail painting, weathering and wear and tear. Onwards and Upwards, my fellow travellers!

  9. If the 'none in this section ' option gained enough votes, would it go through to the GB calendar and allow us to build anything that doesn't qualify for the others? Just asking for @Enzo the Magnificent so he can build them all. Ray

  10. no time to waste today, laptop on near zero power!!!! 230 members have voted...I think it's a new record......as record to rival the number of bad jokes we've had this year!!!! STGB, no real change still the fight for the last place.....to be decided in the last dying minutes I expect. GB/Main event, still action a plenty, you got 50+ votes and you're still in with a chance! It is still way too hard to predict those GB’s on the boarder line, where will be changes hourly I think here right up to the Enzo sings! 🤣 Will finish off in a sec from the iPad!

  11. G'day Chums, may I present my attempt at the old stager that is the Frog Mustang. There weren't any decals with the kit so I decided to do something different. The front portion of the canopy was replaced with a spare Hobbyboss item, the gun fairings on the wings were scratched from some runner.I'd nearly completed the thing when I found a decent photo that showed the camera glassware aft of the cockpit which,of course,I hadn't seen until then.Silberpferd and Col Ford came up with the relevant gen to have a crack at making one https://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/44133-a-few-mustang-mki-questions/&do=findComment&comment=5075935 ,thanks chums. My rendition isn't quite right but it'll do for me.The masking job was, shall we say, involved and I got lost a few times on the way. There is a drawing but it is best used only as a guide I found only four decent photos out there as reference I nearly got it right Thanks all for looking in.

  12. Hello All The MB-339A was the only Argentine jet capable of operating from the island's 4250ft runway. However, as there were no taxiways or dispersal areas and the small apron was always crowded with transport aircraft, the MB-339As had to be positioned on wooden platforms on the soft soil adjacent to the south side of the runway: Here is my take on the Supermodel / Italeri Aermacchi MB-339A flown by the Argentine Navy during the Falklands War, Port Stanley, 1982.: Although the Supermodel kit isn't really that old, it's pretty basic having raised panel lines with zero rivet detail. There are neither tail pipe nor engine intake internals, rendering it possible to view all the way through. The cockpit tub is ill-fitting, with simplified ejection seats and the naca ducts, apart from a very poorly moulded a/c input, are also raised panels. However, according to scaled drawings, its overall shape and form appears to be pretty accurate. Apart from very nicely rendered control columns, I would say that every other part in the kit needed attention to improve it ! However, most of these were improvable with resin ejection seats and a vac-formed cockpit being the only parts that were actually replaced. Although the Supermodel kit models a Falklands MB-339A, it does not contain parts for the DEFA gun pods, whereas the Italeri version does. Unfortunately, this seemed impossible to find, so I had no choice but to get the Supermodel version. Fortunately, before attempting to scratch build the pods, I managed to bid on and win the Italeri version so theirs were used. The decals within the Italeri version are also of a higher quality, so these were also used. LAU-10 pods were not included in either kit so these came from Hasegawa Weapons Set 1. Paints used were mostly Mig Ammo and Humbrol acrylics with Mr Hobby 1000 Grey Surfacer used for the primer. The Italeri decals were very good and went down well. All of the louvres and panel unlocking handles were custom made decals printed on a laser printer. The model was finished with Galleria Matt. This kit was a lot of work and took around six months to complete. Overall I'm happy with the result, but I did make a couple of faux pas which my eyes seemed to be perpetually drawn to 😉 Would I build another one ? Well yes as I still have the Italeri kit and have also purchased Supermodel's single-seat 'K' version ! Thanks for reading and taking the time to look.

My first wife was awful, but my second is wonderful, we've been married 40 years. Her first husband was SO atrocious, that she finds my obsessions as almost a blessing.

  18. Hi All, Some progress on the Vulture! I found this rather lovely picture, which shows all sorts of details on the Vulture: From this I was able to knock together an exhaust model: I spent a while fluffing around trying to bed the base into the nacelle, until I figured out that I could surface-mount it just as easily. You can see the location peg on the underside, which will fit a corresponding 'ole on the nacelle. I can therefore have a non-handed, single component for all four positions - nice 🤩. In other news, I have confirmed that the Manchester was fitted as standard with the Mk.IX CSBS (Course Setting Bomb Sight) at this stage of the campaign. The later Mk.XIV was evaluated on a single aircraft, but only introduced in volume on the Lancaster. I shall therefore add a Mk.IX to the list of items to be designed and printed. Thanks very much to @Shep65 and @T-21 who provided the vital nuggets of information over in the WWII questions thread. Here it is for anyone interested: Thanks for looking, Roger

  19. Next are some very poor photos of the finished ship and diorama - I can't fit this in my photo booth and the lighting in my shed is terrible. But hey. Here's the open well deck and populated flight deck: This probably my favourite photo of it so far: Forecastle and bridge area: Midships: Flight deck: Well deck with lighting: Flight deck Cobra and crewmembers: Lots of gesticulating crane directors! Helicopters in flight: Very satisfied with the outcome! I will get some better photos in daylight tomorrow, I hope. All the best and thanks to everyone who followed, commented on and encouraged me with the build Alan

  20. Hello. After building my favorite NSX and RX-7 last year, I finally finished the R34. The color was already decided because I remembered a blue R34 I saw on a trip to Japan many years ago. I wanted to paint it the same blue color I saw back then. I bought five or six different blue paints, but none of them had that intense blue color, so I didn't paint the body for a long time. I switched it up and overcoated the clear blue over the chrome silver, and it looked good. So I mixed a small amount of clear black with the clear blue and built it up until I got the look I wanted. I also used LEDs to create the under neon. I tried to turn it on/off with a switch that responds to sound. I hope you like it. 🙂 Full build video is here. 🙂

  21. As a modeller I'm excellent at starting kits/builds. Finishing them is a different story. Although I'm also renovating my house in the mean time and two kids and a dog makes it sometimes challenging getting some proper bench time. But nevertheless I enjoyed building this Saab SK60 a.k.a. Saab 105. Build it with reviewing a lot of reference material from the web. I had some issues with the windshield. The fit was not so good (too wide) and had to glue it with pressure, unfortunately the glue interacted with the transparent part and fogged. I message Pilot Replicas if a replacement windshield was an option. And for only a small fee I got myself a new one. This all happened after I had finished my model because I only saw this when I removed the masking from the glass. So I had to do this very carefully in order not to damage the paint too much but more not to damage the decals. Despite being in the hobby for a while this once again learned me that I really need to speed up after painting to unmask in order to prevent this in the future. Well enough said about the process time for some photos! Thanks for watching. Cheers, Evert

  22. My advice would be test an unwanted decal first, my kit decals shattered after soaking. Microscale decal film, and a well stocked spares box saved the day. How are you going to do the mottles? They were very small and tight on that aircraft. I tried that same way the Luftwaffe painted the real aircraft.

  24. Well got myself sometime at the bench after a very busy couple of weeks but going to be even more busy very soon. so most of the build work is done lower hull painted matt black upper works just in Vallejo light grey primer for now all dry fitted to work out the pattern. Been looking on the net for a good winter camo and my mate @BeeKay came up with this one. Thinking of using these Colourcoats paints to match maybe darken pre shade the B20. Oh and forgot to say Colourcoats will be back soon just in case you all missed the clues on my last build still got a few details and set up to work on. Stay Safe Keith.

  25. As mentioned, this jet did not have the PR fit. In fact, I seem to recall from a few years ago, when I built the model and researched this, that 90 Sqn did not have a PR role at this time, but memory is a little vague atm. Good choice of scheme, but bomber only for this one. If you did particularly want to do a silver PR variant, you would have to find an alternative scheme. I did one from 543 Sqn. No wish to hijack your thread, but I thought you might like to see how it turned out.

  26. Evening my dudes. Hope you’re all having a splendid week. More gluing of bits. The victim had his head built. And the side that got zapped! This is going to be so much fun to paint. I’m going to do this like William Defoe in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. Almost like a Haynes manual. The hand comes in two parts and will need filling. Top side looks good though. You can see how of this white plastic is off I hold it to my lamp. Good fit though. And the soles are a treat. They really look great and fit well. The LED got sandwiched in place. Ray gun built. I’ll need to either scratch or 3D print the power bank that goes with the gun. These tubes head a really annoying seam that ran either side. I sanded it back and used TET so smooth it out. And with the lamp base and the drain cover that’s pretty much everything glued. I have to add the digits to the arms bit the next steps will be sanding and smoothing. Until next time. Ack Ack!!!! 27. I finished this tonight but here's the build updates for completion: LCAC on the water, this one's just backed out of the well deck and preparing to set off. Here with its sibling which has already set off for shore! A couple of swimming AAVPs are chasing them. The ship with the water effects Finished diorama layout - this is all glued on now. View with the well deck lighting on The AAVPs look pretty small by comparison! They both have crew stationed in the hatches. Ready for final touches. Lots of PE and fiddly bits to go on! All the best, Alan

  28. I’m a little bit behind with the updates on this one. The interior of the cockpit was given a wash & dry brush: Before gluing in a healthy dose of lead shot: The empennage was assembled: And I started on the main fuselage: I’d misread the colour charts and gone for light aircraft grey internally, but having looked at some walkarounds I’ve changed it to a cooler blue-grey: Had I looked at the walkarounds first, I’d have painted some more metal finishes in that area, but it was too difficult to mask them up by the time I’ve got to this point of assembly. The slipper tanks were assembled: The intake fans had a bit of PE added and a coat of aluminium: I turned my attention to the seats (from Aerocraft, I think) with a base of medium sea grey and black, the detail really started to pop: The seats came with some tiny ejection handles, but despite being very well packed and including spares, only one set was usable. I’ll use the parts from the Eduard PE set instead (cotton bud for scale): The rest of the colours were blocked out: And that takes us up to how things were before Telford. Since coming back from Telford I’ve been down with some sort of bug (not Covid, but I’m more unwell with it then I was with my last bought of Covid), so progress has been slower than I’d liked. Even so, the main airframe is now together: There’s a bit of a step on the underside where the nose joins the main airframe, I suspect down to my positioning of the PE having changed the shape of the nose slightly. Nothing a bit of filler won’t sort. You can also see the cream colour I chose for the intakes, which is actually an old bottle of Tamiya XF-2 that’s gone a bit yellow. Looked about right for the intakes to me: The seats have had the buckles painted, a dark wash and a dry brush to bring out the details more. They’re still fiendishly difficult to get a decent shot of, so you’ll have to excuse the poor photography: Those just need the PE bits added and then they’ll be ready to glue into the cockpit. James

  29. Hi guys, As my work on Kotare's Spit is soon coming to a finish, I decided to prepare for the next project on one of my favourite birds - the UHU. Maybe not that significant as some other aircraft of the period, but definitely unique and IMHO very cool looking! It will definitely be a serious test for my current airbrushing skills. I will be using a decent amount of AM as well, of which Quinta 3D decals for the first time. I am doing the box art bird with the black belly. 31. Building something outside of the BM group builds section for a change, this is Airfix’s recent-ish tooling of the Buccaneer in 1/72, which I’ll be building as an example in the wrap-around camo of the 80’s rather than the kit supplied Gulf War schemes: There’s going to be some AM with this one, I’ve got an Eduard PE set, some 3d printed bang seats, and some Eduard resin wheels. Construction has started with the cockpit, which has had a coat of Medium Sea Grey and various bits of PE applied: I’ve also stuck some PE to the nose bay and door: As well as the main gear doors: The excess fluff shown up in the photos on those has now been removed! I’m going to have to motor on this one as it needs to be done for my club’s 80’s themed night on the 19th November, giving me just a fortnight to get it done. And Telford’s right in the middle of that… James

  32. Well, it turns out not having a stable work bench impedes progress. Luckily, that has been resolved. First up, the bench setup: And next, the Spitfire FR IXc from Airfix and the D-day GB. It might be in the background of an F-16 i'm working on as well, but it did get some more paint thrown at it. The US Navy GB Panther, and the NATO GB MiG 29 will be updated once I have moved them over to the new place.

  35. Added more rigging to the upper foremast plus signal halyards. I think that’s probably as much rigging in these areas as I feel up to doing, looking at my reference material I could not imagine getting anywhere near the amount of rigging etc that this ship has. Next, I plan to add boats, and final deck details, plus booms and jibs then stop and take stock on her general appearance. Also looking at adding a representation of the (stored) anti torpedo nets (suggestion please😁) plus their holding brackets (plus maybe some more rope/wire work here), railings and stanchions and wires for deck awnings if I can keep the enthusiasm going. THEN - the cage Ariels!!!!!!!!!🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪 Oh - and the main armament 😜. Hi @robgizlu, help please, the metalkasten wire you use, how fine is it? I was thinking of using it for the stays on the torpedo net outriggers.

  36. A rare daytime update! This is almost everything that is yet to be added. It really does look like I am on the home straight. Or should that be final approach? A few of those need some scuffs fixing. Particularly the wheels, which have probably been rattling about in my Work in Progress box for over a year now. There are a few very small, or delicate, items which are still on their sprues for safety. Things like the prop bosses and the aerial under the rear fuselage just forward of the tail wheels. It might be a nav-aid aerial, but which one? And it is best not to mention the hedgehog exhausts just yet! Onwards and Upwards, chums! P.S. A quick Google says that the "towel rail" aerial was for the Lorenz beam approach system, or something like it.

  38. Decs on. Earlier I said that Airfix did not indicate a date for the model but in fact on the side of the box is says it is the prototype in 1961. Whilst the decs may be correct for that date I am not sure about the intakes and undercarriage. I have decided not to add the black and white quartered circles they provide which I believe are reference datums for photos as they are not shown on the box art and were probably only carried for a short period. So all it needs now is a finishing coat of varnish and it can go in the gallery. Pete

  39. I discovered that the intakes I hollowed out, were different than what I could find on the B-50. These came from the Academy KC-97, and they seem to be more accurate for a KC-97. I have the Academy B-50 kit, and the cowlings, especially the intakes are not very accurate, apparently they made some other omissions and mistakes on the B-50, but seemed to correct some of them that were common to all the C-97, KC-97 and Stratocruiser kits. In any case I still decided to try and modify the KC-97 cowling intakes and using some plastic card, tubing, silk screen, nylon and ca, I modified them to resemble a B-50. You can see the oil cooler, heat exchanger and smaller intake and I made them to install from the back, so I can apply the aluminium and then put the stuff in before cementing them to the wings. Getting excited now! Cheers Jeff

Painting with Tamiya XF-82 Ocean Gray (RAF), AK Interactive RAF Medium Sea Gray BS381C/637 and Revell 68 Dark Green RAF. Dark wash from MIG Ammo. Finishing with Revell Clear matt. Unfortunately, the decals for the lower RAF roundels were damaged and I replaced them with decals from A-Model kit, which have a much lighter blue color. My bad. Thanks in advance for your comments.

  41. I am presenting you Gloster Sea Gladiator N5519/G6A, the mount of the C/O 802 Sqn. FAA, HMS Glorious, somewhere in East Mediterranean in late summer of 1939. The build was a kitbash, with the basic parts provided by Airfix, and Sword complementing the naval equipment and some details. More details were added from Eduard PE fret and inevitably, by some scratchbuilding as well. The build was presented here: Brush painted with Colourcoats, Humbrol and Tamiya enamels. Decals were once again a combination – the markings coming from Sword, and Airfix adding the stencils. The rudder serials are from the Wings & Waves sheet, as they looked more believable than the ones by Sword. I am aware of one mistake. The fuselage chevron tip should have been placed higher, or the fuselage roundel lower (or both). Found it out too late to do something about it. As usual, no rigging. On the last picture, you can see both recent members of my Gladiator family. So now, I have one snow Gladiator, one water Gladiator, and I am missing just the one for the dry land usage.😁

  50. I had not planned to finish this model for now due to the loss of a decal that I finally found by chance. It was motivated by a conversation with a modeler friend who is part of a WhatsApp group, to whom I dedicate this model. I thank those who have followed the short built of this model and those who have intervened to "teach". In addition to the Eduard kit, which includes the typical Profipack photo-etched parts and masks for the canopy, I have used some Techmod decals for the pilot's personal markings and although I had not planned it, I ended up using the Reskit wheels, the Eduard exhaust pipes as well as the Master Model armament and pitot tube. This is my second Eduard's Bf 109 and it will not be the last.... Andrés.
