  1. Hi Everyone, Hope you don`t mind me sharing some pic`s of my latest attempt at a `fat faced spad` Built from Revell`s reissue of Matchbox`s 1/48 A-1E kit Every time I build one of these I try to bring it up to something a bit nearer the real thing but always see afterwards all the bits I missed...... ....so hopefully this ones a little bit nearer than the last. Improvements this time include: Tamiya main undercarriage, arrestor hook, main wheels and air force type tailwheel engine and cowl. Monogram propeller, all from some recently `culled` kits. Tried to correct the windscreen by sanding off the incorrect pillars, polishing and adding thin strips of black decal to represent the bonded joints. Embellished the seats, added: gunsight, coaming, brake pipes, steps, vent in the fin leading edge, wing fences, wiper, various aerials...... and boxed in the main undercarriage bays. Decals from Caracal Models CD48046 USAF/VNAF A-1E Skyraider. Oh and went for a simpler weapons load than usual with the centre Navy style drop tank just to be different. Hope you enjoy, thanks for looking Russ

  4. Evening All, To say I'm glad to move this one of the workbench is a bit of understatement! It had been sat on the shelf of doom for almost a decade and then I had a spurt of enthusiasm, or is that stupidity to get it finished. Definitely not one of best efforts, I'll put that down to repeatedly losing interest in it. Either way I'm pleased its finally finished 🙂 For those interested, the WIP is here Thanks for looking!

  6. As soon as I saw this advertised I knew it was one for me. And I wasn't disappointed. A lovely little kit (well actually, you get 2 in the box) with exquisite surface detail throughout. I know there are other companies that also do it but this is by far and away the best. Quite fiddly at times especially the photo etch but worth the trouble. No less than 12 colour schemes are provided along with a very substantial instruction book which is full of very useful photos. Anyway, highly recommended and thanks for looking. Oh, and the resin crop sprayer pilot comes along too. 20201019_203521 20201019_203235 20201019_203313 20201019_203254 20201019_203403 20201019_203337

  7. Way back in 1977 Revell released kit H-288 which was a 1/48th scale McDonnell-Douglas F-15A Eagle. It could be completed as the record breaking 'Streak Eagle' or a 58th TFTW 'Candy Cane' Eagle out of Luke AFB. I made this kit many years ago and in a fit of nostalgia bought one on eBay for literally pennies and instantly regretted doing so, it really isn't a particularly good kit. When Revell and Monogram merged the way superior former Monogram offering became the 'Revell' F-15A and this kit was quietly dropped from the catalogue. To be honest, I was going to bin it as not worth the effort however it was saved by... A couple of months ago I posted an 'FF' coded early F-15A in air superiority blue, this was the Monogram kit using the Caracal Models F-15 "The Early Years" decals. I really liked several of the other options on the decal sheet so I decided to go for F-15A 71-0283 which was the fourth Eagle built and conducted structural tests. In her later years she was painted overall gloss white with orange/red panels and I thought that this was worth a try on my old Revell kit. I decided to build her OOB, not to spend too much time on her, however this would be my first serious attempt at scribing panel lines. The result is as follows: 20201018_124745 (2) by Ghostbase, on Flickr I painted the white areas with Halfords Appliance White and was happy with the result. I have used this paint before and am comfortable with the technique that should be used. 20201018_124807 (2) by Ghostbase, on Flickr The orange paint was Vallejo 70.910 Orange Red applied with a Badger 200-9 gravity feed airbrush. I have had a nightmare year trying to apply acrylic paints using an airbrush, thanks to advice here and another forum I have got the hang of acrylics and this was my first successful application on a large model. 20201018_124825 by Ghostbase, on Flickr The fit of the kit wasn't good. I had to use filler on the nose cone join, the nose section to the main body, the wings to fuselage, and the air intakes. I did what I had to do so that the model would be presentable from a four foot distance! Such are my high standards... 20201018_124918 by Ghostbase, on Flickr Although it really does not show in these photos I am very pleased with the results of the scribing that I did on this raised panel line kit. I chose the F-15A Eagle because it has so many flat surfaces, I understand that it was nicknamed "The Tennis Court". I used an old dental tool to do the scribing and the old Revell plastic was soft enough to be able to scribe without any problems. My first scribe! 20201018_125030 (2) by Ghostbase, on Flickr The decals are a mixture. The 'F-15' logos and the serial number are from the Caracal Models F-15 "The Early Years" decals set. All the other decals are from the Monogram kit or the spares box. Caracal have covered the F-14, F-15, F-16 and F-18 aircraft so far in their innovative "The Early Years" decals sets and I hope for more aircraft that I remember from my teen years in the early 70's. 20201018_125406 (2) by Ghostbase, on Flickr My final photo is this build with the Monogram F-15A that I completed a short while back using the same decal set. IMGP3988 (2) by Ghostbase, on Flickr For some reason I am very happy with this build. The original kit isn't great to say the least, however with decent paints and excellent decals plus my scribing it earns a place in the display cabinet. I have a couple more old Monogram Eagles so maybe more to come? Michael IMGP3982 (2) by Ghostbase, on Flickr

  8. This is my take on what is really a rather nice little Airfix kit of the Seasprite and still the only option (for the twin engine version) in 1/72. I think this kit was produced just before one of the several Airfix bankruptcies in the 80's (when it was owned by Palitoy?). I don't think Airfix produced any new tools up to this standard for quite some time afterwards. sprite6 The kit goes together very nicely and the only modifications were some scratchbuilt mirrors to replace the clunky kit one, and some modification of the landing gear as most aircraft seem to have the landing gear covers removed and these are rmoulded into the gear legs on the kit. Courtesy of Britmodeller Robert an extra drop tank was also added as this aircraft usually carried two rather than the one provided in the kit. spritea2 All over Gunze Aqueus Engine Grey was used for the colour scheme and the decals for this HSL-33 machine largely came from the Microscale sheet on the Seasprite, again with some modifiication to the code numbers to represent an aircraft of which I could find actual photographic evidence. Getting the striped decals on the tail surfaces was quite traumatic!! spritea9 sprite8 Hope you like!! sprite4 sprite7 spritea1 Pat

  9. Thanks Giorgio and Roger A bit more done today. The SHAR wings are similar in fit to the Skyhawk, except this one has ejector marks: Soon removed with the #9 - you can see it in the background. Here you can see how the lower wing part fits inside the upper: As long as you remove all the gate residue - typical new Airfix. Nice. The wing fit was tricky but, with some fiddling and wiggling, it suddenly 'clicked' into place: As we all know, if/when that happens, GLUE IT! Two models coming along:

  10. I'm not sure why but the AEW version of the Gannet has always been one of my favourite aicraft and I was very pleased when Sword came up with the first injection moulded version of the AEW3 in 1/72. gann4 This version of the kit came with a resin radar operators bay which was a very nice addition although makes avoiding tail sitting very tricky - mine is stuffed full of ball bearings and there is even tungsten putty in the spinner and it only just remains on its wheels. gann2 by pat cauthery, on Flickr The fit of the kit is relativey good for a limited run kit - I found it difficult to get the fuselage all closed up at once and so glued aeverything but the radome together, and then dealt with that separately. The Sword instructions were also rather vague in parts - fitting the fairings around the exhausts had me scratching my head for a while, but by reference to a few pics on the internet was able to work out what that area was supposed to look like. Had some trouble with the finlets as well - they had a canted backwards stance which I did not think correct and I had to resort to some firm sanding to get them more in line with the real thing. gann8 by pat cauthery, on Flickr Paint was Xtracrylix XDSG over Gunze Aqueous Sky, with the trim being Humbrol Roundel Blue and white decal stripes applied to the finlets. The rest of the decals for this machine from D Flight 849 NAS operating from HMS Eagle came from the very nice set by Alley Cat models. gann1 by pat cauthery, on Flickr Hope you like Pat gann9 by pat cauthery, on Flickr gann7 by pat cauthery, on Flickr gann5 by pat cauthery, on Flickr

  11. Hi there! After almost a 20 years hiatus... I returned to this beautiful youth hobby a few months ago, and decided to give it a go with some old WWII kits (Tamiya's Wildcat, for instance). However, during the reading of the excellent book written by Commander Nigel David "Sharkey" Ward about his experiencies flying the SHAR during the 1982 conflict between UK and Argentina, I decided to build several British and Argentinian aircraft on a "Falklands/Malvinas" serie. To start the fires, I chose the Kinetic 1/48 scale BAe SEA HARRIER FRS. 1. Here are some photos of its process and the final results. PS: this was the second jet that I painted with acrylics... and I loved the results! Cris. PS 2: SuE is on it's way!

  12. Last week I was ill, so I decided to built this little bird OOB. It is my COVID - 36th, ARMA HOBBY PZL P.11c. I corrected the position of radiator, the instrument panel was replaced with Yahu set intended for the Azur kit, required small adjustments, Techmod decals. I don't used any wash. So next Polish khaki bird to bore you Paints I used: Gunze RLM 65 and Hataka Dark Polish Khaki.

  13. Just about to post up when I see this pic Chris posted. 😖 hells bells. This kit is really fighting me tooth and claw. Let me explain. I managed to straighten up the ailerons, yay!!! But forgot to take a picture. Boo!! Then moved onto the flaps and UC. Pretty straight forward. and the UC parts. Just need a tidy. The wheels look lovely. I decided to move onto the engines and cowling. The nibs got removed and tidied. Then after some light dry brushing on the engines they got stuck down. Next the cowl. Can you see the error?? Hmmmmmm🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔 😩😩😩😩😩😩😩😖😖😖😖🤬🤬🤬 That’s right not only have I glued the exhaust on backwards I have glued the intake backwards too. Oh and painted it to add insult to injury. 🥳 you can’t make this up. Try as I might to prise three parts of they wouldn’t come so I had to chop them off. I glued the pipes on the other way but these remnants also had to be removed otherwise the cowl wouldn’t fit. After that was done I did a dry fit. Oh my. It didn’t even try and not look like a big stick on panel. As I have now just seen in the starting picture it actually is a big stick on panel. 😮😖😩 so any way before seeing that I filled the gaps with PPP at least I think the top isn’t split in two so it’s not all time wasted. Surely it’s not like this? I couldn’t figure out how I was going to mask it all again after the CrAzy so I stick on the outer ring. I can fill that with sponge and mask the rest. At least it’s only PPP I can wipe it away tomorrow and get the lower lines back. 🙌 one step forward and all that. oh by the way, saw this fly over on Saturday. Any ideas? Right I needs some sleep. Thanks for looking in. Hope you all had a great weekend. More soon. Johnny

  15. Thanks Mark, John, Finbarr Craig (titter), Rob and Simon for the kind wishes updates this morning are, shall we say, a little lavatorial so I'll keep them to myself. Bill you are a very, very kind man and I feel guilty, then happy, then guilty to think of you donating another kit for me to massacre. More happy than guilty though, it has to be said Thanks Keith - noted! This morning I've spent too much time thinking about Apple's latest money magnet. Again. I disciplined myself NOT to buy the iPhone 11 as my 'X' seems more than adequate. Mostly. But now… 5G (if you have it in your area and your network)? I don't go out much nowadays it has to be said, but I do go to the daughters using Waze to guide me. Sky are tempting me with a 'VIP deal' on a cheap SIM deal but there's no coverage in my area yet (they use O2). I'd sell it cheap if there was no coverage… Camera is better, obviously. I'm thinking of a Pro Max so my Kindle is bigger - poor old eyes would benefit. In comparison to my current X (which Mrs B will inherit) it has an extra 'Ultra Wide' lens. 5x optical zoom rather than 2x. Better aperture so better for those revealing close ups (careful!) And (oooh, oooh) a LiDAR scanner! I think that might let me scan things for 3D printing (if I had a printer). And scan the rooms so that I can do the long-planned house book. Same ppi on the screen (hmmm) but more nits. Can't beat nits IMHO. It's obviously a reward for me too. Now I just need to decide who to buy it from and which deal to go for… groan… Anyway, the Harrier got some more attention too. I was a bit paranoid about cutting these off and getting them mixed up: …but, as it happened, they are quite different: Spent ages getting the halves lined up but those will still need some filler I think. The tailplanes worried me because of the angle of the dangle but 'new Airfix' made it easy, again. Looking a lot more like a SHAR now:

  17. Couple of quick shots on the bench of the latest build. This is the Airfix 1/48 kit done as one of Flight Refuelling’s D3 Drones XN652 circa 1980-84. I used Pavla’s resin cockpit, Aires undercarriage, Wolfpack wing fold and Eduard seatbelts. Pitots are from Master, the engine covers and UDP were scratched. Decals are from the kit and Model Alliance both of which weren’t great - ‘bloody awful’ is a better description though this may be down to their age or way they were stored. Big thank you to Dave Swindell for coming up trumps with a photo of the Universal Drone Pack that replaced the Observers ejection seat. Pity you can’t see much of the detailing when the things together but I know it’s there and it’s probably my favourite part of modelling. The kit did put up a fight especially around the forward fuselage and flaps and I hate spraying yellow. Love the Sea Vixen and the kit though If I’m honest I’m quite glad it’s all over. The undersides and air brake do look quite nice if I say so myself but to be honest I darn’t move the thing now to photograph them - should have done it before attaching the wings. The next project was going to be a second but I’m not sure I can face it right now. Think I’ll wait and see how the therapy sessions go first. With the cancellation of the project XN652 ended her days at the Catterick Fire School as instructional airframe 8817M. Hope it’s of interest.

  19. So having finished work earlier than expected I decided to have a go at the camo scheme on the main hull. First of all I applied the basecoat over the pre shading i completed yesterday. Then time to add the Schokobraun as the second colour 🙂 So I'll let this dry overnight then add a gloss coat and then see about some weathering. Thanks again for looking back soon 🙂👍

  20. I found things to do Kind of... Didn't do any more I have been working on extra stuff to represent HIDAS on t'Apache This is utter madness, none of the brown grunge colour poking through is visible to my eyes at street level I hate acrylic scrape (Paint? This junk isn't paint, fortunately the airframe will be given over to Jamie's wonderful Colorcoats.) I must admit to being very disappointed with the transfers that came with the (huh!) Apache Longbow kit (yes folks he's whinging again!) No more than a generic 'Royal Army' (it says) scheme, none of them would be decent enough to hang from a ceiling forty feet up in the air I had already begun printing the letter parts of the replacement sheet including no holds and no steps with serials to cover ZJ224 and ZJ226 alongside ARMY ones to give me a choice later in the day as I was not sure then which Apache I was going to produce yet. To give a British Army machine we also need the black outline WARNING placards for the tail, the things in the kit are... things. To do the transfer sheets I prefer using MS word in whatever version sits in my computer, have done for years because it is all so very easy. A problem I do have with word is performing graphics in it I have no doubt that somewhere in the Microsoft panoply there is a perfectly capable drawing and graphics method, but as I intend to carry on modelling into my dotage rather than learn new computer applications (I understand it might be possible in Powerpoint but I cannot be asked) What I do, and this is my build after all, is start up paint Shop Pro and open a new sheet Input text from RAF_PW_ATH font which I put into my font bank many moons ago I wrote the word DANGER twice separated on the sheet by a reasonable distance. Then using the 'line drawing' tool I drew some lines in arrow shapes (PSP allows very easy line drawing unlike some other programs which need multiple key presses and witchcraft at midnight on Walpurgis Nacht) this gave me the beginnings. You can see that the basic arrow boxes are asymmetrical but the drawing tools in PSP make altering mistooks very simple A veritable boon to a philistine such as I A quick rejiggle gets here There are still discrepancies but a short play around gets me done, here for instance the space between the word and the arrow back 'wall' needs adjusting More adjustments and the arrows need their image cropping to use in the Word processor I know I can be awkward but these will do for me when they are printed out about 3/8ths of an inch long to sit on a Apache. I crop the image to a size that won't take up too much expensive space on my home brew decalcomanie sheet I open Word and start the ZJ224 (the title Word gave it based on the first readable letters I put in the prog) sheet Find the programs Insert Pictures function and deposit the image from PSP onto the work sheet. It will load with a set of 'handles' round it, use one of the corner handles to squeeze the image smaller - and rest. I like to add a couple of the first size I guess then highlight it again and pinch it down a little more to give me wriggle room. I got this image here I am very pleased with the text colour comparison with the PSP colour, a very dark (NATO black-ish) shade was chosen from the font colour function and the printing in Paint ShopPro colour I chose was fairly well matched COLOR CO-ORDINATORS-R-US This feels like a decent place to stop, (because that is all I have done today) so I will. Catch ya laters.

  23. Hi all, Done a while ago this is my IL-20 Coot. An Amonster, the wings and fuselage come in fibreglass with the rest in plastic. The parts all need cleaning up before assembly with drilling, cutting and sanding required on the fibreglass parts. Thereafter fit, fill and sand are the order of the day. The model is from the box other than the Little Lenses used for landing lights and Kristal Klear cabin windows. The U/C is drilled and reinforced with brass rod as there is a considerable amount of lead in the front end. More recently I had another go at the paint finish. These aircraft had very faded paintwork which I have tried to replicate using Tamiya powders with a blue hue to fade the grey base. Oil stains were done using the same product. Promodeller wash was used for Panel lining. The aerial is new and the propellor bosses now sport black tips. At a later stage I may convert it into the M variant which has many more interesting lumps and bumbs. We shall see. Hope you like it Pete Thanks for looking Pete Ongoing in the shed Il -14 Albanian Air Force 1, MiG-23UM Hungarian AF, Ermalayev 2, Su-15UM

  24. Good evening, It's the first time i start a topic with you. I'm not fluent with english language, but it is easier as i only have to write ! Main purpose is to share about plastic kit building, but also to practice again your language because, retired, knowledge is fading fastly... so i have a dictionary on my knees ! 😄 Why a Whitley ? Because a good friend is building a Manchester and i had to go with him on something in relation with his subject : too lazy to start my Planet Model Manchester kit after some hard previous work, i saw this recent box, and i also wanted to build a new Airfix big plane kit. Also because i did not build any flying british thing since... 1994 ! Meanwhile, i had at least made this : and this... So i expect to be forgiven... 😄 I have seen two other Airfix Whitleys built here and i got by the way very useful informations from you about landing gear legs. The kit seems ar first very clean and easy to assembly and as a fact after two days it seems nearly finished : nearly... 😜 First small correction with rudder's shape : Corrected one on the left side. As it seemed i would not have a lot of work with this kit, i started to detail the turrets which are already very fine from the box. Here the rear one (FN4A ?) : The scheme is coming from "British Aircraft Armement" from R. Wallace Clarke, an excellent book you surely all know. I had to sand very heavily for the first time when gluing engine's nacelles to the wing : maybe i did not proceed correctly as everything was going nearly perfectly until now. Then i started to look too often to the landing lights : Airfix chosed a solution which gives satisfaction when you look the aircraft from ahead, but which is really puzzling when looked from above... So i decided to make some extra work there also... Front turret (FN16 ?) : Here you can see how things look like with rudders and drifts. I was prone to think it wa nearly perfect, but careful attention to pictures revealed a real mistake here from Airfix : The left part has been corrected : I was also puzzled with wing's position light, but when you don't want to see... So i first made that : The light must be at the end of the straight part of the leading edge, and straight above the upper angle of the aileron : but if you get the first place, you miss the second, and vice-versa... It took me some time to understand there was something wrong with the aileron's size, as overall wing shape is perfect. Correcting this problem needed a big work, as i thought this kit would be finished in a few weeks only : but in the end i couldn't deal with the parts as they were and i started the correction, both extrados and intrados. Aileron's length is 8 cm instead of 7,6 : the number of ribs is correct, but you have to get rid of the last one. Of course, it means you also have to correct the part of the wing which is covered with linen, and move the command fairings. In the end, it looks correct after several days of sanding, gluing evergreen, spraying surfacer 500, sanding... It is a big amount of work, but if accuracy is one of your goals you cannot avoid it. I must add that the plastic is easy to work and that i like it (some people say it's too soft, another point of view...) Well, the plane is not finished yet and i hope to end it in two or three weeks. Some extra work as you can read and see, but this kit is a really good one : i only hope i will have less work to perform with the Wellington and the Fortress Mk.III ! Regards.

  27. Hello all I finished this one yesterday, Eduard's FW-190 A4 shown as one flown by Siegfried 'Wumm' Schnell in Jan 1943. I was pleased with how this one went together and with the amount of surface detail, quite a big difference after my last two builds (Airfix Hurricane and Tamiya Spitfire Mk1s). I added more detail into the engine but this is covered up by the 'fan' behind the propeller- I know its there... This is largely painted using MRP paints which spray very well, I'm a definite convert, and certainly made the mottling easier. I also got a lot of silvering on the top crosses so took them off and painted them on instead- they do look better painted but not too keen on wanting to repeat that masking process! I've kept the weathering light as all the pictures of Wumm's plane show it to be very clean. A flory wash and some oils were the main of it but I did try splattering some un thinned matt varnish over certain areas to try and help simulate fading. I think this has worked well in some areas but now I've seen the close up pictures is maybe a bit heavy in some areas! Overall I think I'm making progress and each model is better than the last so looking forward to next in line which is the Tiffe Italeri/Hasegawa re-boxing. Thanks for looking. To prove that a little work went into the engine

  28. Hi Everyone, this is something I've been working on as part of a bigger project to cover the (rather neglected) female pilots of the Star Wars OT era. Each project will have a craft and figure. For those of you that don't know, when they were made, ANH and ESB had no female pilots, but ROTJ was supposed to have them. They even shot video of three, but apparently test screenings of ROTJ with them in got negative comments about women in combat (this was 1983) so they took them out. Except one - an A-Wing pilot called Sila Kott who you can glimpse for a second before her death. But they over-dubbed her with a male voice! Of course, films like Rogue 1 and Book and Graphic Novels have since put matters right, but so far despite all the alterations, ROTJ is still female pilot free - although you can see them in the briefing room scene if you look very carefully. The first pilot I have done is Evaan Verlaine. She was the pilot of Y-Wing Gold 3 during the Death Star attack in ANH. You can see her craft at the very end just as the Death Star is about to blow along with Luke, Wedge and the Millennium Falcon. This is a canon retcon based on the Leia Graphic Novel (in Legends this pilot is Keyan Farlander). To create Evaan and Gold 3 I used the FineMolds 1:72 Y-Wing and a custom based on the Black Series 6" Luke Skywalker. Evaan Verlaine So far Evaan Verlaine has only been visualised in comic book form (in the graphic novel Princess Leia). The base for her figure is the 6" Black Series Luke Skywalker. All of the figure (apart from the chest box) has been repainted using Vallejo acrylics, using wet-blending, glazes and other interesting techniques I learned on YouTube. Her helmet is based on the supposed official one, but that is exactly the same as Blue Leader Antoc Merrick (in Rogue 1) so I made the alliance symbols Gold to make it different. Her head is 3D printed (using Shapeways) based on one I created using FaceGen Artist, DAZ Studio and 3DS Max. So who is she based on? Well officially there is only the graphic novel, however, there is a female cosplayer who thinks they may have based Evaan on her! I think she might have something, so the head is based on her. Y-Wing The main feature of Y-Wings is their beat-up Clone Wars era nature. To re-create that I initially sprayed the whole thing silver, then went round with maskol covering up places that would get worn or places damaged by attacks. A coat of FS36622 from Mr Hobby went over the top followed by rust for the pipe work. There is no accepted scheme for Gold 3 AFAIK, although due to script changes, Gold 5 has squadron markings that indicate Gold 3 (the cockpit stripes). So I just used a bit of artistic license and made it look as I wanted - I'm not a fan of the overuse of blue on the cockpit and engine pods so I made it as subtle as I could. Worn areas were left silver, but any battle damage areas were edged in black to simulate paint singeing. The whole thing was washed with Tamiya Panel line Dark Grey and a small amount of dry brushing of dirt was done. Ten points for anyone who can ID the R2 unit. This isn't canon (yet) but you never know! The next pair in the series will be TIE/Ln and Iden Versio from Battlefront. Thanks for looking 🙂 Chris

  29. Hi there, This is my first AFV build. The MiniArt kit is a pleasure to build despite the high number of parts and these horrible track links. I liked it so much that I bought the T-55 from the same customer, but this time I will use some Friul tracks, or similar. Some details were replaced/scratchbuilt and the slogan on the side made shorter, except for that the rest is from the box. Cheers, Antoine

  31. I recently did my last WIP post on these, so its time for a final post for these. Both Gazelles are the Airfix offering, one from the 80s and the other from the 90s/00s. The first one i started (back in March) got to the end of the painting stage and it all went a bit wrong when i found out i had completely messed up the canopy. It took me a fair few months to know what i will do with it. I decided to do it in the scheme of XX453 used by Qinetiq in a fictional diorama with it in storage, getting brown paper getting applied to the glass. (The wonky antenna has since been fixed) The later kit had decals for a pair of HT.2s, but had the GOA on the top section of the canopy. Due to this of course i had to look at AH.1s and found a very nice desert scheme. This one is XZ347 used by the AAC. This one also has a base but it is very quick, and one day i will make one it deserves.

  34. Greetings fellow Hellerphiles! Progress has been a bit hampered, not due to the model itself, but due to my camera. Obviously, being a group build, there needs to be updates and all I have is a little Nikon point and shoot. It's trash. Quite possibly the most miserable excuse for a camera I have ever owned. It is completely useless and fails at every task asked of it. It apparently has a macro function. Well, it might have a macro button, but that's just a ruse. To cut a long story short, this miserable piece of Chinese junk is going in the bin. So, to enable me to continue this GB, I'll post a couple of blurred, horrible photos that was about the best this thing could manage. It even makes what I have done so far look awful. Honestly, it's looks better in the plastic. So, progress so far includes cockpit, wings, wheel spats, engine, cowling and prop. It's all ready to be buttoned up now, so things should speed along a lot quicker now. No major issues so far, and all in all, a nice, enjoyable kit. Here it is nestling in the WIP box with the P.11c Normal service will be resumed once I have killed this Nikon with fire and bought something fit for pupose. Steve

  35. So let's see what's in the box. All the main parts are moulded in Magna's old softish cream resin. The shapes look OK but here's pour blocks and flash to be removed as well as some pin holes. The surface is a little rough but hopefully some work with a polishing stick will deal with that. And a bag of the detail parts in white metal along with a piece of wire for the main spar for the upper wing. There's loads of extra metal which is par for the course with older Magna kits, newer ones are much better. But after a bit of time and patience they should be knocked into a reasonable shape. Two vac form canopies, one is a little yellowed but will be serviceable if I screw up the first one, and a small sheet of clear plastic for the fuselage windows. A transfer sheet thats nice looking at first but I think it will be pretty useless as it's crazed. I anticipate Novo style shattering into a million pieces if I use it. One thing Magna have always done well is their instruction sheets; three pages, two of which have copious diagrams. And 5 sheets of possible options, obviously there being only two on the transfer sheet, most in variations of the Temperate Sea Scheme. I should be able to source something in my transfers stash or cobble something together from excess Swordfish transfers. The additional package insert gives evidence of the kits age, at least 20 years old. First job will be to remove excess resin, then a good clean in the ultrasonic bath.

  36. Hi More done to the Mirage in the last few days. I have started on the wings i glued the lower section on 1st after i scored the elevons at the rear and cut a small wedge shape in the arms to allow them to drop a bit i then bent them down went to far on one side and it snaped off. I then glued it to the fuselarge let it set I then got the top wing parts and scored the same as the lower did not snap these of this time. I found i needed some card to help get the top wing to sit ok if not it just sat to low the big bit is 60thou and the long bit 10thou this allowed me to fix the wing at the fuselarge side 1st glued it and let it set then i glued the wing edges and just held togeather till set. The wings on not to bad took my time, airbrakes i will add later. As it is now time to start the sanding the wings and the other bits then the nose next. I might get some more done this week we shall see as other Mirages that need doing. See Ya Paul

  37. Hello all, its been a little while since I last updated this post of the Lotus 79 so here is a progress report on what I've done to this point. There was a delay in finishing up the cockpit as there isn't enough rivets included in the kit so we had to purchase more which took a little time to arrive. Having said that the cockpit panels are now finished, all riveted and ready for the dash and seat to be added. I have also added the front brake cylinders, and added some pipes from those to the front callipers. The battery is also in place and the wiring that leads up to the dash which is currently wip and will be added next. The gearbox has been added to the engine ready for the rear suspension to be built up. I have most of the bodywork painted which I was working on while I waited for the rivets to arrive so I am hoping I will be able to move this project on pretty quickly in the coming weeks. Thanks Chris http://www.wardsmodelbuilder.com [email protected]

  39. Evening all, I've been making some good progress this week on the big Sunderland. Lots of plastic card and Evergreen strip to the rescue, combined with a fair bit of reference checking and head-scratching, and I now have the basic structures of the bomb room and forward fuselage/flightdeck completed. The bomb room has been kitted out with the basic structure - the doors are actually open on the real aircraft but as I'm not detailing the areas either fore or aft I've used a bit of creative licence and added some doors: I've made the basics of the bomb racks which will eventually carry the depth charges and added these to the roof structure, which slots nicely between the bulkheads: The whole structure then sits nicely into the fuselage, which has had its sidewalls detailed with Evergreen for the ribs and stringers: I've also been busy detailing the underside of the flightdeck floor and added the stairs: And I've also begun making the basic structure of the flightdeck itself - again the door in the real aircraft would be open but I'm adding large spars to support the wing here so have added a closed door: This again fits nicely in the forward fuselage section, with more Evergreen for the sidewall structures: I've also begun making the floor for the forward nose section which has numerous perforations, I imagine for water drainage. I think I may have made these a little large but we'll see how they look under some paint: The fuselage is doing its best to come apart here, but you can see how the internals sit in the model: Here's a sense of scale - a Halfords' rattle can is dwarfed by this beast! A few more bits to make and add before I can give a first squirt of paint to see how it all looks - a nice mixture of interior green and natural metal should bring it all to life nicely. Until next time, Tom

  40. Hi all Moving straight on from my Eduard Fw190 A4 build onto the latest delivery from Mr.Postman, the Italeri rebox of the Hasegawa Typhoon. I haven't done a WiP before so not sure how exciting this one will be but i'll try to keep progress ticking along- I state my intent now! To be fair though the small part number should help speed things along. We'll see how I get on with the infamous fuselage inserts- seen a few different ways of tackling this but watch this space. I've also a few extra goodies to help with the final look I'm hoping to put quite a bit of detail into the cockpit as its fairly sparse. I've made a start with the milliput seat padding and plonked a compass in using the unnecessary part the attaches to the back of the headrest. Next will be adding all the wiring.

  41. Most likely an accidental leak at Scale Model World in 2017, one of the Wellington Mk.Ia/c renders shows a Wellington Mk.II (Merlin nacelle and exhasut visible). It has not yet officially been anounced and I'm waiting for a response from Airfix.

  42. Well, that's that. Finished. The wood grain decals were SSSSOOOO thin, that I only put them on the wings. Excellent effect but a real nightmare to flatten out, honestly, I've used some thin decals, but these................. I'll give it a spray of satin varnish once everything is dry.

  43. so.... although these PE and white metal parts are a definitive upgrade for this kit you still see that this is quite old! I think extra nose weight will not be needed more soon!

  44. Thanks Giorgio The fit was weird and I though, like the Skyhawk, you needed to slide it in from the back but no, it was just brute force and ignorance! Thanks Bill, very kind Otto James Scrimgeour* Jones is now getting on fine and his infection (whatever it was) has responded to antibiotics. He wasn't in a box, thanks goodness, but worrying nevertheless. (* Family name - all the males have it in son-in-law's line) He's now feeding, sleeping and the other stuff (ugh) well and they hope to be out on Thursday. Mum is also getting some sleep and feeling much better too. We're hoping to visit them at home at the weekend, fingers crossed. Hopefully then I can get a photo that I'd be happy to share where he's not looking like a grumpy old man… Back to models. I've been thinking about hanging the models and I'd like a Harrier, u/c down and hovering. This one has to be chasing the Scooter, obviously, so maybe I'll get another, one day. Had a quick look at a P1127 kit but they're rare. Hmmm.

  46. Thanks for your kind comments and likes everyone . After what seems an age, I have slapped some paint onto the diorama's cast of players and here they are ready for dress rehearsal. They were good fun to paint and a useful exercise as I get to learn how to paint figures with acrylics (which is proving a long journey!). Everything is now coming together and should be done before the clock runs down at the end of the month. Here are some piccies. Please be kind - the figures are small and so the photos enlarge all the mistakes!..... Many thanks for looking and any comments would be most welcome! Cheers, Pat

  47. So today I wanted to attach the wheels and tracks to the lower hull and I'm glad to say I've managed to fit them in place 🙂. I will be returning to do some more weathering on this part at a later date but for now I'm well pleased with my first armour efforts. Here's some pic's of the lower hull ,warning there's quite a few apologies for that 🙄 With that taken care of i switched my attention to the main hull and applied grey primer and some black pre shading 🙂 And that's where I stand as of today. This update is a little photo heavy as I mentioned above but I was just trying to cover as many angles as possible. Once again thanks for looking and I'll be back soon 🙂👍
