  1. SteveHnz has requested a few photos of the York in my avatar. So at his request, here are a few photos. This is the CMR conversion with the Hasegawa wing, it was built several years back, so please don't be too critical.

  2. This is the 1/48th scale Tamiya P47-D Thunderbolt Razorback. The model was painted with Aeromaster acrylics with the exception of the canopy frame, which was painted with Xtracolor enamel. Artist gouache was used for weathering and to highlight the panel lines. The seat belts are from Eduard. The decals are Eagle Strike set number 48054. American Jabos. The markings are for Yankee Tarheel. Flown by Lt. H. I. Price. 510 F.S. 405 F.G. Thanks for looking, Joe

  3. Spitfire MKix GC.1/7 "Provence",Dijon 1944. Hi folks, another build for the French fancy GB is Airfix,s Mkix with the kit,s choice of decals. The kit is well known and pretty well liked despite what many regard as heavy panel lines and we all agree a terrible cockpit.I tried for the first time on a 1/72 kit a little pre-shading which the jury,s still out on but for me the scheme was the attraction just a bit different from all my others. trials and tribulations can be found here.http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234978910-spitfire-mk-ix/

  5. After the great Tu-2 I was keen to build the Il-4 as well. After opening the box I was disappointed as the panel lines are very heavy. On the other hand, this is ideal for a heavy weathering - a "must" for this type! Beside this, the build was without any problems. The fit was excellent, a very few amount of filler was needed (nose section only). Also the design was quite good, the level of detail is great - and not that overengineered than the Tu-2. Unfortunately a lot of the interior is invisible. I used Eduard PE and masks (a must!). I'm a big fan of naval aviation, so it was clear to build this version. As I have a lot of planes with torpedoes, this time a sea-mine was installed! The big mine with the aerodynamical covers and fin (wooden in original) looks great! The original flew in 1st Guard Naval Torpedo Regiment over the Baltic Sea, summer/autumn 1944. I was really happy with the build and the result. Now Xuntong, come on with the SB!

  6. Hiya Folks, I got my Airfix Hurricane yesterday and I`ve started sticking it together today after painting the interior,....what a fantastic kit! I have not bothered with sprue photos but after using spray can silver, Tamiya Interior Green and Black here is the interior built up with one of the wing gun bays furnished; This is the first time in years that I have tried to brush paint using Tamiya paints and I was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was, so I have found an easy to find replacement for my last bottle of Polly Scale Int. Grey Green! Here the wings have been assembled with one gun bay cut out and opened up, the interior parts have had a wash pf watercolour before assembly started; Another view of the assembled wings, fuselage halves ready to join and,...yipee,...the kit also includes a Vokes filter!!; Here is the Vokes filter alongside the lower nose for the normal variant; Even better,.....the kit also includes an arrester hook, the forward pair of catapult spools (tlose from the rear fuselage are missing but easy enough to make) and a seperate fuselage section to mount the hook on,.....so a Sea Hurricane Mk.Ia or b can be made from this kit, but you will have to fabricate your own pilots head rest; The kit includes both De Havilland & Rotol (blunt spinner) propellers which can be seen here with the fuselage almost ready to be attached to the wings; And here is the kit together. I have added the Vokes filter; So that is what I`ve been up to today,.....this is a great kit although the wing trailing edges will need some effort, Cheers for now, Tony

  8. I actually didn't realise Viz was still going, but yes, "Fnarr fnaar" did become part of my lexicon as a result of exposure to it - as for the real Finbarr Saunders... well I ended up wondering if he got the job, though not to the extent that I was prepared to google further to find out Thanks very much Simon Thanks very much Rob Hey Noah - only the green is brush-painted, the Dark Earth and Sky parts were airbrushed - as for the brush painting, if you thin your paint and don't try to get 100% coverage in one coat, it's not as hard as you might imagine Ah, I thought as much... funny thing, when someone changes their avatar I seem to immediately forget what the old one was Anyway, the decals are applied, MicroSol'd and Klear'd: The VC set decals are pretty basic - roundels, codes, serials and the wing walkway and instrument panel decals - I didn't use the last two, the wing walkway was designed for the old tool kit and doesn't quite fit, so I used that decal from the new kit. I had a bit of a wrinkle on the codes on the right-hand side, which I hope will settle as the Klear dries. However I will have to leave it there for a few days, as I am off to deepest Aberdeenshire to spend the Easter weekend with my folks; after that it should be varnishing time Cheers, Stew

  9. thank you everyone - very kind of you to stop by so, I tried doing some of the nose plating in litho but the part I made wouldn't take the curvature without wanting to kink. Luckily the sheet of pewter I ordered arrived so I tried using this - it's nice and maleable and fairly straightforward to work with ..as I have been doing, I added the vertical rivets before fitting - all the horizontal ones will be added once the plating is complete so they all line up.. ..I wanted to do the top nose panel (the one with the circular fuel filler..) which is the first real compound curve.. ..first step is to burnish masking tape down over the panel and pencil mark the outlines from the scribed lines and adjacent panels.. ..next transfer the tape to a small sheet of (expensive) pewter - as the fuel filler cap has 16 fixings around it I got an image off the internet & printed it to mark out where they need to go to be equally spaced.. ..added another circle and soon had the marks where I could emboss the fittings.. ..added all the other markings to set out all of the fasteners this particular panel has all around the edges... ..embossed & riveted, you can see how soft the pewter is by how it 'blows' underneath - this needs to be burnished out with a smooth rounded object (I have a bit of steel rod)... ..the lower image is the finished panel.. ..I spend some time finely tuning the fit by carefully sanding the edges with a sanding stick, constantly trial fitting and taking it really slowly as you can always remove material but never add it back... ..I also mask the area the panel fits to ready for the adhesive... ..and the panel fitted in place... ..still got more to do, but it is getting there... 10. Hello, I would like to present my Heller 1/72 Aérospatiale SE-3160 alouette III operated by the Lebanese Air Force (القوات الجوية اللبنانية‎ Al Quwwat al-Jawwiya al-Lubnaniyya) L-220 C/N 1393. Unfortunately I don't have much more info than that. I've found two photos on the internet of this particular aircraft; it looks like it has had a VIP fit. This was built as part of the Lesser built airforces Group build here If you haven't checked it out I recommend you do as there is an eclectic and colourful mix of aircraft. If you are interested, the build thread for this can be found here There a number of things that I wish I had done differently and on closer inspection a few flaws with the paint and finish (you may notice a crack on one of the front doors and some silvering on the decals) but overall a very enjoyable build and I'm happy with it. Cheers Aaron

  11. After a few months of swearing and head banging I finally got this one done, i'm quite amazed and wish I was drinking the same stuff the Trumpeter guys were when the developed this kit! I only ever work to "it looks about right scale" but how they missed out putting in holes for pylons and weapons to fit on them I don't know. Maybe it was the fact I had a bad kit (it happens), but to be honest from Trumpeter I would have expected a better kit for fit. That's not knocking to hard, it (with time and swear words) it builds up well, id say its not for those that wish to build it straight out of the box not expecting fit problems. So here she is, I want to experiment more with washes and staining on this one so she's been made to look like she's had a hard time out on the decks and been working for a living. All questions and comments welcome, but as I said I work on "it looks about right" scale :-)

  13. Quick update! I am working on the cockpit, so things have been primed and given an initial coat of Tamiya NATO Black for scale effect. I have also drilled out the ends of the Trumpeter Red Top missiles I am using instead of the short shot Airfix missiles. Finally, the essentially complete airframe has been temporarily mounted on the home built stand; the brass needs polishing and the wood staining, but getting there!

  14. Hi all. Here's my latest project: Heller's (ex Occidental) 1/48 scale Fiat G.91 Gina. This is by far the worst kit I ever built. The only positive thind is the engraved panel lines, but even those are bad. Anyway, I used the Neomega cockpit and added a LOT of rivets, plastic bits and putty. I painted the model with Gunze acryllics execept for Model Master Orange. This kit was a lot of work and sometimes frustrating but I'm satisfied with the result. Hope you like her too. Thanks for watching. René

  16. Towards the end of 2014 I was asked to build the HK 1/32 B-17 in the markings of Yankee Lady with interior and exterior lighting, along with spinning propellers, which I completed just before Christmas 2014. Whilst my customer is having a cabinet built for it he asked if he could store it in one of the display cabinets at Modelair where I work. It’s been sitting there ever since getting lots of attention from our customers. It inspired my latest customer to approach me to build him the same kit, but this time in the markings of ‘Bit O lace’, and asked for the aircraft to be heavily weathered just as the aircraft appears in a lot of period photos of her found online. Once again with lights and spinning propellers. The first one took just over 4 months to complete, however with my newly gained knowledge of what can and can’t be seen even with interior lighting, I reduced my time to 6 weeks. I’m still impressed with this kitset. It’s a pretty straightforward build, but has the ability to fatigue the modeller, as the build can be overwhelming. The advice I’d give anyone attempting this model is – don’t sweat the small stuff, especially in the interior. The only repeat offending problems I had with both models is where the top of the fuselage joins to the fuselage sides, as the top part is slightly too wide for the fuselage, and requires a small amount of Mr Surfacer to remove the obvious join. The decals were printed by Kitsworld, which I was impressed with for a second time. They really conform well to the surface, and sink into panel lines very nicely. The Stars and bars I still think are on the absolute limit for size of a single decal, as once again one of them tore on me. However they are definitely more accurate than the kit offerings. The star and bar on the weathered wing panel is a decal, which was ‘peeled off’ using tamiya tape after the decal was dry. I was petrified whilst doing it, but was very happy with the results. The chipping effect was achieved by putting lacquer silver down first, then a coat of hairspray, then with acrylics- preshading, colour, then post shading. After all that had dried I attacked the acrylic with a water soaked hard bristled paint brush, and stabbed at the paint until it started to come off. I’ve never used the technique before, overall I’m pleased with the result, however if you’re about to try it, mask off the area you want hairsprayed before you apply it, because if you mask over it the hairspray will come up with masking tape, much to my frustration. Because of the sheer surface area of the model, I painted the whole model in Tamiya spray can AS12 silver to get colour coverage, then picked out major panels with Alclad colours, which worked out economical. I guess I’m lucky to have built 2 of these models, and was quite pleased to be able to photograph both together. Because of the space they took up I couldn’t fit them both onto the projector screen without the background showing through, so with that in mind, please forgive me for terrible photoshopping lack of skills trying to hide that problem. I hope you enjoy the photos. If you’re in Auckland NZ, be sure to drop by the shop to have a look, as it’ll be on display until it’s collected.

  17. Today is a 'good day'. A couple of months ago, my six-year-old started becoming very interested (then obsessed) with the whole Star Wars genre. This interest coincided with a Sci Fi 'Campaign' or 'Group-build' over on www.modelersallaince.com where I spend quite a lot of my time when I'm not hanging-around Britmodeller. . Long story short, I took advantage of Bens interest and bought this old STAP & Battle Droid kit to enter in to the campaign and to see if he'd like to have a go with Dad at building a kit. He did most of the major assembly with the minimum amount of help form me, whilst I was allowed to do the painting. We finished at 0700 this morning (only just) in-time for the last day of school and this mornings' 'Show & Tell'. Yes, today is definitely a good day. Kit - AMT/Ertl 1:6 STAP & Battle Droid Paint - All Tamiya acrylics. Decals - None Extras - 'pins' (wrist joints), patience and lots of strong coffee. As ever thanks for taking the time to look and/or comment. Because I enjoyed this 'change-of-pace' so much I spent a lot of time over the last week or so wandering around eBay looking for more Sci Fi builds to spend my money & time on. As it's turned-out, on a purely 'modelling level' this is not one of my best, however as a fantastic experience of building a kit with my wee son, it's absolutely bl**dy marvelous. AFN Ben & Ian.

  18. Hi fellas, With a few models sitting waiting for the gloss coat to go off, I've cracked out the neat little Hasegawa F-4EJ Kai boxing of the Phantom in 1/72nd scale. The kit is the perfect starting point for an RAAF machine as all the parts except weapons are included in the box. The RAAF machines had unslated wings so no need for any mods or hacking of the kit. The final item will be an inflight display of A69-7205 carrying two sticks of three 500b bombs on TER's on the inboard stations. Missile stations will be empty but it will have a full compliment of gas bags as per this pic from add-serials (the aircraft in the foreground on the right is A69-7205). I've skipped the cockpit build for the moment and gone straight to the fuselage to get the bulk of the exterior done as there's nothing too adventurous going on externally. The blisters just aft of the intakes need to be removed. Before After The sharpie outline for the mounting post is marked here. It turns out I needed to move it forward a panel as it would foul the exhausts when they were inserted. The two blisters further behind the main gear towards the trailing edge have since been removed as Aussie Phantoms didn't have these. Perhaps the F-4 gurus can shed some light on what they were/are? A start on the cockpit. There's not much to it but once the crew are installed the decal instrument panels should be okay. The rear section of the nose gear door installed. No filler required here. I've started to busy up the sidewalls as they will be partly visible. I've no idea what the rear left hand sidewall of an F-4E looks like, but some gizmology will get me by. For whatever reason the right side is provided as an insert but no mention of it is made in the instructions. Some of the panel lines on the spine needed reinstating after being removed when cleaning up the seam. Some Pactra tape and an Olfa scriber put them back in their right place. Before. After. The circular access panels also needed some work. The first effort was made using a fluted punch but I wasn't happy with the result. Perhaps okay for a flat surface but not on a curved one. I reverted back to the old scribing template and needle for the rest. Progress so far after two evenings. The outer wings and fin cap have also been adde. You can see the hole where I had to move the mounting post position to. I've been doing some work on the ejection seats and drop tanks but once they're done I'll load up some pics of them. Anyway, that's it for the moment. I'll be back with another update tomorrow. Cheers, Mick

  19. Another miniature. The Union-Castle liner Winchester Castle. Scratchbuilt. It was quite tedious making all those lifeboats! I was in the Union-Castle Line myself, but never saw Winchester Castle, as she was sold just before I went to sea! She ended up with only one funnel, but that actually improved her appearance. Bob

  21. Dear Modelers, Revell Hunter is one of the best kit I have ever made. This was a Mk6, backdated as Mk51 for Danish Air Force. The only addition is a resin seat. Unfortunately it is out of production. I'm hoping Revell will be releasing this beautiful kit sometime in our near future. I also like to thank dear modeler friend Ole Rossel, for providing detail information and help on this project. Decals are custom made. Best Omer Erkmen

  25. This one has taken a while to build, not due to it's complexity, but the fact that I'm still suffering from chronic back pain. I also managed to knock up a rudimentary generic base for it. I used Mig and AK interactive weathering powders and washes with AK Interactive resin coloured with artists acrylics for the mud on the tracks etc.

  26. HI all - we'll she's finished. last step was doing the clear vision panel on the canopy - I'll post that in the WIP which you can find here http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234978085-airfix-148th-supermarine-spitfire-mk1/ My Spit is finished in the markings of Adolph "Sailor" Malan's K9953 ZP-A of 74 Squadron around June 1940. I'm dedicating this model to the Allied aircrew who flew and fought over the skies of Great Britain in 1940, and the ground crew and support personal who kept them going. "The gratitude of every home in our Island, in our Empire, and indeed throughout the world, except in the abodes of the guilty, goes out to the British airmen who, undaunted by odds, unwearied in their constant challenge and mortal danger, are turning the tide of the World War by their prowess and by their devotion. 35. evening folks thanks for the encouragement - appreciated - especially as this is all new to me! still plodding along... added more panels - same format - scribe a deep panel line to follow... ..the nosecone was really hard to get right - and even now I am not 100% on it... ..I used 1mm flexi tape and made up 2 layers to guide the scriber... ..there are two quite prominent forward hatches (50 cal ammo access) so I wanted to cut these out rather than scribe them... I punched the radiuses and filed the opening - then fettled a new panel to fit.. ..and fitted - there is a hinge at the bottom I will add later - and yes the fastenings are random like this! ..and to round off this is where I am at.. ..thats all for now - back soon TTFN Peter

  39. Sorry for the lack of recent progress, annoying Other Life Committments getting in the way. I think I left things in the (apparent) closing stages. The kit maintained its guerrilla warfare right to the end. The resin undercarriage doors and some other details went on not too badly. I got to a stage of apparent near-completeness: But the canopy is moulded too narrow, and is under pressure to spring upward. Also, without carefully cutting a small right-angle in front of the canopy rail and below the windscreen, the rail on one side would not sit properly, a situation exacerbated by the springiness. So the white glue I used did not hold. I went in again with two-part epoxy, and fought the gap that results from the windcsreen edge following exactly the coaming over the instrument panel: Eventually got this, with epoxy mess unfortunately contaminating things: There are decals for the rudder tricolour, but I painted mine. I should have brushed something on the decals to stop them disintegrating, but time was now pressing hard to finish. One side exploded, the other went on okay. I left off the very small lettering under these stencils: And because I have to get on an aeroplane and travel interstate in a few hours, that is it for me for this group build and for this kit. PE ring-and-bead sight and perhaps those fin-to-wingtip antennae might follow before I put it in the cabinet. This kit did go beyond the usual short-run kit trials, although the plastic, resin and PE itself is well-executed. It would be interesting to try this with aftermarket decals and perhaps an Airfix P-40B canopy, appropriately re-shaped and polished. I guess this is as good a place as any to thank everyone involved in administration of the group build, those who have posted such inspirational models, and especially those who have helped me or taken interest in this project. Final pics in the gallery.

  40. And now with the dark green on. Of course it means redoing the gun sight and the inside of this area but it shouldn't be too much extra work and I am pleased to have those lines represented. This will go on the windowsill next to my Airfix Mk V Eduard Mk IX, Airfix Mk XII and eventually the Airfix Mk 24 that I put on hold to do this one. The idea is to show the development of the Spitfire so differences like this are things that I'm quite keen to capture. The eagle-eyed among you might spot that i have also started making a few subtle changes to the camouflage shapes. This will take some blending in but I think might look a bit better. Thanks for watching!

  41. Thanks guys! (especially Warren, very much appreciated!) Just a small update today: Some more PE detail added to the overhang on the "strykers bridge" level The tower and air defense level is finished ready for painting: The shielded viewports are part of the Flyhawk set, but not mentioned anywhere in the instructions. From reference pictures, it looks like they were positioned as shown The underside of the air defense platform - some nice PE detail again, and some improvisation for the supports under the new wings. Meanwhile, at the back.... New extended platforms for the Mk56 directors. Next bit I've been dreading and relishing in equal measure - the quadrapod mainmast which has to be completely scratchbuilt and probably soldered: (Detail from image of USS Missouri 1954, courtesy of Navsource navsource.org . The mast configuration was the same on both ships) Al

  42. Hello all, im new here, this is my first build post on this site. This is my newest addition to my display case. Its the new Tamiya 1/32 f4u-1a corsair. Of all the builds I have done in the past, this is by far the nicest kit I have come across yet. I added a few extras to go along with the build, such as the barracuda decals for the interior of the cockpit, barracuda diamond tread tires, rb productions oil cookers, and hgw seatbelts, and the decals that I used were by fundakals, very nice by the way, and ez line for the aerial wire. The paints that I used were all done by mr color, weathering was done by the new ak interactive panel liners, very nice to. I hope you guys like it, any questions or comments are welcome Jeff

  43. Well, it's now April - doesn't time fly..... I'm pleased to say that I had very good feedback on Sunday at the East Midlands Show where this was on display The Cab & Bonnet area isn't hard to do but you will need to have some way of bracing some of the parts. In my case, the bonnet sides were ever-so slightly warped and needed a little 'tweak'. The same also applies to the mudguards. All fixed together and with the air intakes added. Making sure all the parts fit flush is essential. The bonnet cover and front grill are not yet glued as I need access to some of the smaller parts and headlamps. There are a few PE parts to add and they need a small amount of folding which I did with some long-nose pliers. A small amount of jiggling to get the cab to fit over the engine and onto the chassis - it looks pretty good so far. Looks like one of the PE parts has come off? I found it and it's fixed back in place. Now, it's off to finish building the Gun!
