Have just finished this as I wanted to take something to Telford.... also, shamelessly (considering the time I've been on BM), my first RFI on the forum too. Now, I just need more time to finish my other projects..... Hello here is my latest build with this 1/72 Hasegawa Bell Boeing MV-22B. It was easy to assemble and I added some weight in the nose in case of. Instead of the box decals I chose from Wolfpak sheet N°72.057 "Shadows of the Knight" this BuNo 166747 of HMM-365 in 2011. This should be published in Model Airplane International. Patrick

Hi, Next Britt from my shelf - Fairey Seafox. Kit originaly from Matchbox, than Revell. I made model in 1995, likely from a Revell production kit, but it does no matter. I am not sure now. BTW - I dag out my copybook with modelling notes and I foud that in the same year I made some models, which I post already (some of them I consider younger, some older):Boulton-Paul Defiant, Mosquito XVIII and Fairey Battle. So 19 years from now...Accordingly to the notes this was my second attempt to do ringings in biplane. The markings are presenting machine from 713 Squadron FAA, HMS Arethusa, North Sea, Atlantic, Meditereanian Sea, 1940. I think that in the box there was proposed all-silver pre-war paintings of the same machine and this camo version was published in one of Czech modeller journals, but it can be found also in net: http://moderndrawings.jexiste.be/WW2Drawings/Files/2-Airplanes/Allies/3-UK/07-Maritime-Planes/Fairey-Seafox/Fairey-Seafox-Mk1.htm. Five letters..............LIDAR Why? The ONLY thing that Airfix said was "....a big announcement" Sorry, but this is about personal perception, NOT what was stated. and the use of LIDAR isn't a headliner? Are there any other companies using this? Ladies and Gents, we ALL have a wish list, most of which will NEVER see the light of day from a mainstream producer, as they are NOT VIABLE for sustained profit. This thread has kept us ALL amused in the lead up to the nationals! Don't 'spit yer dummy' just because your personal PERCEPTION of what was meant by the announcement was / is flawed. While talking of BIG announcements, here's one for you......................... their MODEL kits.............................. bits of plastic that we BIG kids stick together, constantly bemoan that this, that and the other is wrong, spend innumerable hours arguing about the right colours for this, that and the other. FACT......... If it has wings, it will fly ONCE! If it has tracks or wheels you may get to play 'brum, brum' a few times! If it's supposed to float, it MAY, but I'll bet ya that it'll be upside down! Now...............onto NEXT YEARS announcement, anybody got ANY ideas????

Hi - just finished this for the WW1 group build. WNW's excellent model with Aviattic and Pheons equally excellent decals. Well, I think if Hornby can use this technology to translate all the lumps, bumps, ripples and creases etc that characterise real 1:1 scale aeroplanes realistically into a plastic kit, then they'll be on to a winner. I think it has the potential to bring a new level of realism to the hobby, and will make them stand out from the crowd. Personally, I think it will come into it's own more in larger scales, but 1:72 is bread and butter stuff for Airfix, so perhaps we shouldn't be too surprised that they have started there. I'm going with the 1/6 scale line of political personalities. I hope they release Roy Jenkins, he has a lot of potential marking options, including some for whiffers.

My latest model is this Indian Navy's Ka-25 ASW helo. Built this coaxial rotored anti-submarine warfare bird based in Visakhapatnam (Vizag). These were purchased from Soviet Union back in 1980.These were ex Soviet Navy helos. It operated from two naval bases in India. One is in the west coast of India Dabolim and the other from east coast Vizag. My bird depicts the later. I had to mix the variant A and B in kit instructions to make an accurate Indian variant. Decals are home made and the paint used was Model Master medium grey. Weathering done with oils.I wanted to make it little more dirtier than the real ones . These helos operated from the Kashin II class destroyers like INS Rajput. It is a very small model in 1/72 scale. It is a very small aircraft and very small in 1/72 scale.See size comparison photo next to a SD card.Added some fuel lines with copper wire. I tried to vary the colors in radome and fuel tanks to show some fading. Hope you like it Thanks Vivek

I couldn't disagree more with you. The big news was LIDAR and justifiably so, if it brings the anticipated benefits of increased accuracy where it can be employed. Airfix did not hype it up at all. The only hype was from people with flights of fancy about large scale, new tool models. Even saying most people feel disappointed is open to dispute since you have no measurable way of knowing if that is true. As for a marketing blunder, I seriously doubt that. What's the saying about the only bad publicity is no publicity? They have generated a great deal of enthusiasm and interest on here, even if in the end some people have been disappointed that what was high on their personal wish list was not forthcoming. In any case the three models announced will not be to sum total of Airfix releases for 2015.

I am pleased to see Airfix updating their range in this way and the choices are both sensible and welcome. There is no "but" from me though there is a concern. Airfix have rather set a precedent for a big release at Telford and after the Typhoon they had a hard act to follow. The hype surrounding their marketing perhaps set expectations too high and that can backfire on a brand. Airfix need to be careful not to overpromise and underdeliver. Their Defiant, He111 and Sea King are all very much to be welcomed but what exactly sets Airfix apart or above any other manufacturer releasing three new tool products? My concern relates not to the choice of subject or scale but to the marketing hype preceding it.

Airfix, get that LIDAR stuff down to Bruntingthorpe and laser me a new Buccaneer and don't forget to point it at Black Mike when he arrives too, 1/72 scale will be fine thank you. Duncan B

Those look nice, Stan. I may have to buy a set... So, on with the lights! Tell me if I doing something wrong, OK? First, I came to the realization that the clear styrene I had in stock wasn't thick enough for the wingtips. So, what should I use? Wifey said "Why not try some plastic silverware?" Which is brilliant, of course. I grabbed a clear plastic knife, found a section near the handle that was thick enough, and sawed out a couple of "chunks." Then I took my tiny jewelers drill, and drilled a couple of holes to represent the bulbs. (Wait, I don't like that word. Bulbs you put in the ground, and grow flowers. I'm an optics guy, and these are lamps! Forever more...) I drilled a couple of holes to represent the lamps. I went out on the web and copied a couple of other Beaufort builds, and painted the rear lamp white, and the front lamp red (these are going on the port side, port wine is red, so the lamp is red - come on now, that's how you remember it too!). Here's what I ended up with: Yikes! Egads and all that jazz! This looks...awful, really. Well, they will look much better after I paint the mating surfaces with British grey-green and then glue them on the end of the wing, right? Hmmm, um, well, there's something about the shape. They're not...wing shaped, you know what I mean? Blimey, what now? Wait a minute, I've got those sanding sticks. And that Micro-Mesh stuff that somebody on Britmodeller told me to buy. If there ever was a time, now is it. I grabbed the sanding stick that still had large bits of carbide rock sticking out of it, and sanded myself a proper curve in the planform view. You don't want to hear this whole silly story, do you? You know how this is done. A little extra superglue to fill in the gaps, sand to shape with ever finer grades of sanding sticks, in my case up to 400 grit, then switch to Micro-Mesh and continue sanding and polishing up to 12,000 grit. And then it magically turns into this: Und die Unterseite: I vote that it will work just fine. Now I got to do the other wing... Cheers, Bill PS. Now with the base-

Hi Gang- This is AMT's 1/2500 U.S.S. Enterprise-E from their Cadet Series line of snap-together kits. Replicating the complex paint scheme was easy as it only required the light gray base coat, everything else is all decal work. The decals are a mix of kit decals and aftermarket decals (from Absolute Models). The planetary display base was made from half of a clear sphere. Acrylic craft paint was swirled into the whole sphere and then gravity blended the colors together over the course of a few hours. All in all a very fun project. Thanks for looking!

I think the LIDAR laser measuring bit is the big announcement. Not only will the measurements be more accurate, but it will also significantly reduce the time (and cost) it takes to take a model from selection to appearing in a shop. Only Airfix know for sure, but I expect this will enable Airfix to do *more* new tool models in future. Good news for all modellers I would have thought regardless of scale or type.

I'm not in any way displeased. The thought of paying less than forty dollars for a decent He111 model appeals, I can sell my MPM Defiant, and AFAIK there's never really been a decent HC4 Sea King without an expensive conversion.

A new-tool Defiant, in 1/72nd, in January. I can't wait. (And I'm not being sarcastic.)

Most of the hype cam from outwith Airfix. They made a few announcements, but only little teasers. the rest was modelling Chinese whispers

There was enough info even in this thread that there wasn't going to be a 1/24 scale anything, the reason so many disappointed is through Chinese Whispers and this all started with a guess that the big announcement was going to be a big kit! Talk about speculation Not interested in any 3 of them but if it means Airfix will prosper and make other subjects I would be interested in then good on them

The vast majority of the hype, speculation and rumour about this (Includng the 1/24th claim) came from outside of Airfix. they sowed a few seeds and generated huge forests. And I've just seen the pic of a card from Telford that says the 'Whys' of the Seaking (Couldn't read the tezxt of the Defiant or Heinkel cards) - Evergreen Subject - Mould tool badly worn - Popular gift set - Existing kit does not give new customers a good experience. Hoping for more variants from the Sea King!!

Because the 1962 He.111 kit needs replacing with something where the clear parts might realistically connect to the fusleage.... Because the 1969 Sea King kit fitted where it touched just about.... Because the 1960 Defiant was considered unfit for purpose in 1980, yet was re-issued since then so many times you can hold it up to the light and see through the fuselage.... The big announcement was the LIDAR tech, backed up by three new kits produced using it.

Willing to bet they'll make the He111 able to be built as an H, a la Hasegawa's.

Look, come on fellas, I've had to pull my truck over into the services for this announcement!

The first I made the cockpit. And there was first problem, because the Aires' seat is a little to wide to fit cockpit tube. The only way out was to cut off the side walls of the tube and spread it a little. Before this action I tried to cut the tube in the middle, but it was not a good idea. The seat fits almost perfectly after this. I started to add some equipment in the cockpit, especially left wall side pannel and some details like oxygen tube ect. And here there is ready and painted the cockpit. And the ejection seat... I used some parts from Eduard's set, not used Aires' seatbelts. And one inside the other:

Cheers mate. The 3M spray gives a much finer effect than hairspray but as I could not get it I time. I have gone for the hairspray to give a more light snow effect. I was enjoying the heavyier look and this is 2 coats. It's created a slight wind drive. Effect as the snow can only stick where the spray has fallen, so this makes it look like its blown favouring one side more than the other just like the real weather hopefully. I am not sure if to do a 3rd coat or not but here she is so far. I gently brushed off the excess the. More vigoursly brushed off a bit more. If you look carefully you can still see the camo rounders and red lines etc and this is 2 thick coats. Cheers Rob

That figure above is my third ive ever made/finnished....lots of error and trial...pant and strip....paint and strip...thre four times... my second figure that is on my previous diorama..all them legs/back and arms are adjusted by cutting in them Figures is shure something complete different to paint...but geez it is fun... /Mal
