  1. Hi, folks! This is my next model. The "Brengun" firm released the captured Spitfire Mk.Vb, which the specialists of the Daimler-Benz installed they own engine DB605A. The model is based on the old model of "Azmodel." Plastic is typical "shortrun" with small set of photoetched parts.

  2. I've wanted to build a Hercules in this scheme for most of my modelling life. I was influenced by the box art of the Airfix kit from years back. The kit is the Italeri one with resin engines from Heritage Aviation, and a couple of etched sets from Eduard. The panel lines on the kit are raised, so I engraved them. I used a set of decals from Airdecal and I used paint from the Xtra Colour range. The Blood Hound SAM is the Airfix one, just tidied up with a little extra detail added to the trailer. I added some detail to the interior walls of the rear cargo hold using Milliput and items from my spares box

  3. This one has been around for a wee while now (I finished it over a year ago!!), but is only now making an appearance in RFI. A very simple conversion of the new tool Airfix 1/72 Harrier GR7/GR9 kit, the most complicated bit of which is the masking for the paint scheme! The actual conversion work is simplicity itself, involving nothing more than a little cutting, some sanding and a tiny wee bit of plsticard. First up, cut off the kit nose and then add the Quickboost resin nose. Once the glue is cured, sand to match the kit contours and then sand off the rivets at the rear fuselage and the strengthening strip also. There is a slight difference in shape to the upper RWR sensor which is easily replicated from plasticard cut to shape and glued in place. Then you need to sand off the right hand MFD on the kit instrument panel and add a small square of plasticard with a circular hole in its place, et viola! Decals came from Modeldecal 100 for both the stencils and unit markings, but I suffered from a wee bit of silvering here and there as well as being slightly out of register in a couple of places. Kit seat was replaced with a resin example from the extensive extras stash and was courtesy of Airwaves circa 1994. This is a vast improvement on the kit seat and really should be re-released. Right, enough spiel, here's some pics, I toned down the panel lines with some milliput, which makes a huge improvement to this kit. I also added a few wee aerials, the fuel vent and the retractable step too. I hope this has whetted your appetite for some green scheme Harriers. I always thought these were the best looking ones, especially ZG531 with its big 4 Sdqn tail, Mark.

  5. I started this build when this kit was first released, but only finished it about 2 months ago. I scratchbuilt a few extra details that Airfix omitted, as well as added some semblance of the harness to the seat. The details I added were the retractable step on the starboard side, the fuel vent on the same side and the standby VHF aerial on the lower rear port fuselage. I also added the missing strakes on the outrigger wheel fairings and used a Master metal pitot tube to replace the kit plastic one. Decals were mostly OOB, with the serials being cut up and rearranged to get XV758 and the Harrier Conversion Unit emblem coming from one of Vingtors excellent Harrier sheets. On with the show, Here are a few detail shots showing some of the little details I added, Anyway, I hope you enjoyed looking at this as much as I enjoyed building it. If you've not built one of these yet, I can highly recommend one. I'm currently building the GR3 with a couple of Freightdog resin bits and some Eduard etch and really enjoying that one too! Mark.

  6. Hello everyone and also hello 2014. Quick update: 2013 was the year I started modeling again after a 30 year hiatus. I managed five builds last year when Real Life reasserted itself. So this one was started last year, but is my first finished build for 2014, and my 6th build in total. Ooh! All those maths classes weren't wasted! Sadly, during the last 5 months Real Life meant I didn't have much time for poking my nose in here. Slacker I am! So here we have a Jaguer GR1, Johnny Fartpants, in my very vague approximation of its Op Granby scheme. Artistic license applied by me as usual. It's mostly an OOB build of the Italeri 1/72 Jaguar GR1 with the decals from Modeldecal. I actually bought this kit and decals about 15 years ago. Yes! I was actually going to start building 15 years ago and bought this in preparation, but life took over and I had to wait another 15 years before starting again. I think it was worth the wait as I wouldn't have access to all the hints and tips I do today and I don't think it would look quite the same. Hopefully I'll have the time to bang out another couple of kits this year coz, well, I kind of enjoy this thing we do. In the meantime I hope you enjoy this one. Thank you again for your attention. 7. First up is the DC-8 -51. I wanted originally to do the bare metal version, but given the less than stellar job I did chopping up the fuselage, well, gloss white hides a lot more sins than silver. Decals by Twosix, and Contrails engines. Main thing I can say about my job on the engines, is "There is a lot of room for improvement". I even had Mikes' ( Mitchems ) perfect examples to copy, but . . . Really enjoy this Minicraft kit - have to be careful I don't end up with a herd of DC-8s. Mike The Pan American DC-8 -62 , Decals by Classic-Airlines and a much easier time of it on the engines!

  11. Banana Build - Day 121 The first thing I got to work on tonight was sorting out the cyclic controls. I eased them off with the edge of a straight scalpel blade. The location pins snapped and there was some collateral damage: I drilled out the holes a bit and reattached: After a bit of touching up they looked fine. I then salvaged what Squadron filler I could by cutting off the end of the tube and putting it in a spare jar: Mixed with some cellulose thinners it was returned to a useable consistency: I then glued in the mounting boss for the front rotor: If nothing else it will help keep the dust out. I then did some fettling on the canopy and its surround to get a better fit: Space is tight in there, I noticed that the ducting was contacting the canopy and tiny stress cracks appeared if the canopy was pushed hard against the fuselage (they are not visible here): To relieve this I sanded a whisker off the ducting: I will now refit the canopy and do some more sanding.

  12. This is the new mould kit, which now sits alongside an old mould kit built as G-AHIZ (see http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234956327-tiger-moth-g-ahiz/ ) The new mould is streets ahead of the old one, but I still had to do a few tweaks to represent G-AOEI, and there's still a few more that I wimped out on- the nose panels are missing a vent each, and the twist fasteners. I took off the ribs on the nose cowling and used some decal for the anti-slip area. I added the tail-skid spring from fine copper wire wrapped around a needle, and scratchbuilt the generator under the nose. I removed the wedges that represent the aileron actuating rods and replaced with stretched sprue. I added the two short tie-bars that connect to the rear undercarriage legs. It's partly rigged, as I thought transporting to model shows was going to rip off the rudder and elevator controls on the first trip. I practiced on the old G-AHIZ model first, and that went much better than on the new mould kit, I think because the new one is less rigid and the stretched sprue rigging doesn't stand up to the flexing of the wings too well. The markings I drew up and printed on my home printer. I still need to make some of the Flying Group logos for the nose, the radio aerials and fuel guage There's one thing I would do differently when I build another- cut off the cross brace on the wing struts and fit each strut independently. Cutting off the brace after assembly is tricky, and cleaning up the struts after is a delicate task. Steve The real thing broken image links fixed 18Aug2015

  13. This is a nice little kit. Well engineered and thought out. It comes with a jig for joining the wings, though the top arms could do with being longer. The transparencies have nice ridges that mean no masking required before simply hand painting. A really nice touch is the inclusion of the catapult cradle to display it on. The colour decals were very flimsy, so I ended up painting the yellow leading edges, but everything else went on OK. Tamiya paint for the upper and lower surfaces, Humbrol for yellow leading edges and cockpit green interior, Vallejo for the prop and hub and Wire Wool for distressing the paint. Klear before and after decals and an atrists acrylic matt varnish to finish. Hope you like it. Any and all comments welcome. cheers Grant

  17. Hiya, Another Panther, seems it's raining with them lately This one is model A, from Grossdeutschland division. Tamiya, 1:35, simple kit, straight out of the box with no PE or other super extra detailing. Because I just found out my ImageShack demands money for upload, had to go somewhere else, but for now uploading pics there is rather tedious (one at a time?) I put some More HERE. Cheers

  18. I took a tool from my AFV painting arsenal and gave her a coat of Mig tan filter for tritonal camo, which both toned down the contrast a little, and gave it a slightly dusty appearance in places. Happy with that, I glosed her up with a bit of Alclad Aqua Gloss, the put the decals on. I over-sprayed the decals with some tan and grey in a very weak mix beforehand to take the vibrance out of the colours, which has worked reasonably well, but it started to come off while I was wrangling the anti-glare panel on the nose. Instead of freaking out, I embraced it and took most of it off, leaving the occasional bit in place, so it looks like it's either been scuffed, chipped or patched at some point. There aren't many decals for this scheme, and they went down fairly well. The national markings were a bit thick because of the over-spray, but overall they've gone on ok. Here's a quick pic of the results. Another coat of gloss will go on later to reduce the appearance of the carrier film, and then I'll be looking at a panel line wash, followed by matting her down for a bit more weathering. After that it's final construction of the small parts, and whatever else breaks off during that part!

  22. Hi everyone, first time poster. I am building the 1:48 Tamiya Dambuster Lancaster kit, and will be doing it in the 'livery' of Squadron leader John Leslie (Les) Munro. Mr Munro is the sole surviving Dambuster raid pilot, he will be signing a small plaque to go into the case of the model upon completion. It is my first aircraft in a long long time, so any guidance on the build from the forum members would be very welcome. It's a pleasure to be part of the forum and I look forward to being an active member. A few photos of progress thus far. Aaron

  23. I have been pondering what to do for this GB and most of the ideas I have had seem to have been picked up by other modellers. So wanting to do something different, today I hit on the idea of trying recreate the inverted scene from Top Gun using this and for the fictitious MiG-28 this Well as I have never tried anything like this it's either going to be a complete b***s up or will look pretty good when and if I get it finished. It may turn out to be a bit too complex to complete in time but we will see how it goes. I still need to search for aircrew, suitable decals and then figure out how I am going to recreate the scene. :mental: All suggestions are welcome.

  24. This is my version of my local sever class lifeboat stationed at Tynemouth up here in the North East of England on the river Tyne near Newcastle. This is the Airfix 1/ 72 kit built OOB and put into a seascape which the base is made from polystyrene foam from box packaging cut to rough shape then covered with B&Q cheap clear silicon sealer and the wake is made from pulled out green scourer pad the kind the wife uses for the dishes ( and me when she tells me to ) and a simple bit of thin pine wood stained for the base sides. Any comments welcome hope you like?? Keith

  26. Good evening one and all, Despite the bench being pretty full next on the bench will be the Academy, as boxed by Italeri, Hawker Hunter F6. I've been toying with what to build next and was inspired by Sean's black hunter he's doing a sterling job of! There's been a fair bit written about this kit but from first inspection it looks pretty decent! A quick tape together shows overall fit looks ok From what I've read the main issues are around the cockpit and wheels, so out with the SBS resin set which covers both and is exquisite! That just leaves the scheme, I've decided to finish it as a Jordanian airforce F6 from around the time of the 6 day war. I seem to be having a bit of an Arab Israeli theme at the moment, with a Mirage IIICJ nearly complete,so this was an obvious choice! The main issue was decals, with only the old CE set as a source and they are few and far between. As it was a very kind BMer came to the rescue and gave me these Gratis and all the way from Malaysia! Thanks once again. I might be a few days before I start, as I've got my Mig to finish for the GB, but hopefully this thread will spark of some useful debar and reference material about these particular aircraft! Thanks for looking Phil

  32. Thanks a lot Rich. I'm trying to learn something as I go. I did a bit more work on the dress pattern along Jack's ideas, and things improved. It can certainly be done better still, but I'm much more happy now. Then my attention turned to her black waist band. I couldn't leave it as it was, I had to try doing something to recreate the grey pattern. After some sketching to find a method I started painting away, and after a few hours I had arrived at this. Here it is after a matt coat. It's not very precise, but she's covering much of it with her arms, so I may get away with some of it. At last I think she will look better like this.

  49. There was that modeller who complained to his buddy: "I bought a new kit yesterday. I knew I was in trouble. I came home late, so I switched off the headlights two houses before ours, killed the engine and coasted stealthily into the driveway. Snuck in through the garage and immediately hid the incriminating evidence in the pile of winter tyres stored there. Yet, when I entered the living quarters SWMBO was already up and chided me for making "another pointless purchase!"" Says the friend: "No such problems here. Whenever I get a new kit I turn into the driveway with screeching tyres, gravel spraying. I bang the car door, enter by the front door, smack the kit down on the table in the man cave. Then I storm into the bedroom, smack her on the bum and say: "Are you just as horny as I am?!" She then always pretends to be sleeping."

  50. Morning Folks and what a happy sunny and warm start it is to the new week. This morning I spent a bit more time on the probe. I give it a good few more passes with the Aluminum oxide block to round it off at the end and polished it up with wet and dry paper. Then I stuck the tip of it in some side cutters and squeezed and twisted to give me a slight depression at the end to represent the tip Then I give it another polish over with wet and dry. I am hoping that I can then mask off the tip which will give me a nice real metal look to the tip with the rear portion of it being in grey. Then in true OTT style I have secured it with impact resistant Rubber infused Super glue. This is also to ensure once its in place it stays true and also provides me with a nice holder to form the milliput and weight around to stop it from becoming dislodged in the future. Now I need to get some plastic tube just the right diameter to fit in the engine tunnels. and start work on the intakes. I am not sure if I should paint them white or leave them the resin white colour they are. as they look pretty darn good. I will have to mask them first before fitting them to the fuselage. Cheers Rob
