  1. Hard to believe but, the sun came out today. It's not the best time of year to be taking photos of a model outside but here are my attempts. I'd swanned over to Newark to pick up a piece of grass mat earlier this morning and stuck it to a square sample of marble I got from my old place of work. When the sun peeped out from behind the clouds I grabbed my gear and dashed outside. Using an A4 paper backdrop I snapped my Spittie in the late winter sunshine. Imagine an evening sortie one autumn evening in 1940..... I ran the pics through some software to give a couple the aged effect. Colour.... black and white..... I hope you enjoy the images. See here: http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234952958-48th-scale-tamiya-spit-another-take/ for the build log. A big thanks to everyone who helped and contributed, cheers.

  2. Hi all Party on the basis of the "demontrateur" released by hasegawa, the bulk of the transformer is to redo the apex of wing, much more important on the F5E series, as well as the 'flat' nose if characteristic, the rest concerns the various antennas emerged following the users I have rewritten and especially riveted a mold perfectly smooth and light relief. For what say why... well the mold revell, with all these transformers, came out a few months after this Assembly, hence the expression: "ya what to eat them... "Finally remain cool. What is done... is fait.peinture humbrol brush with these cans and models a red missiles if characteristically Switzerland that clachent both. Our Swiss friends have found the "trick" to break the monotony of the camos low visibilité(la réalité est tout autre...).In regard to armaments box photodécoupe... all brands.Level one, a plane that has a lot of g: "#° e and a small revolution at the time with the heel first supersonic training jet (1959!), with respect to his elder brother, the F5E, he gave many wire twisting, F4, F15, F16 and other F14 for a good number of years, because in addition to its smallness, he smoked only very little so hardly detectable in flight.." : a true agressor. With regard to the replica you to judge...

  3. Hi all! Here's my latest completion-kit is the new tool Airfix T.11. I wanted to build a Flying Training Schools Vampire in the yellow bands scheme, and ideally with the big nose code letters to make the scheme a bit more exciting. The kit scheme for WZ507 as preserved 2012 was out, as the real preserved aircraft wears something of a "mish-mash" of T.11 schemes rather than its original service codes etc. So, casting about online I found this lovely colour photo of XE988, based at RAF Swinderby with 8 FTS in 1957: http://abpic.co.uk/photo/1199645/ Codes and serials are from Xtradecal and Modeldecal stock sets, the rest of the decals are kit. I added stencils to match period photos of T11s in this scheme where possible, although a few stencils are placed on a "best guess" basis! The model is brush-painted over Tamiya primer, using Xtracrylix Trainer yellow, and a High-Speed Silver mix of my own devising- about 80:20 Revell Aqua Aluminium : Vallejo white. The only other alterations to this lovely kit are a handful of wires in the pit, the radio aerials on the wings, removal of some non-period lumps around the nosewheel, cartridge ejector chutes, and some Pavla ejection seats (which do show up OK under the nice clear canopy!) Hope you like it! (The sharp-eyed will notice that the model required repairs after the photo above!)

  4. Hi to all Brit-and-other-modellers ! First of all, this is my very first diorama, so don't be to critical on this work! Next one will be better, I hope. But this one is nice to me, so I hope You will enjoy. So, this is 1/48 Tamiya Mosquito FB VI with Austin Tilly (I know, wrong car in wrong place, forgive me); Nissen Hut and bomb trolley are Flightpath, RAF pilots and ground personel is Tamiya - Revell, starter trolley is 100% scratchbuilded. Diorama is dedicated to Max Guedj and his copilot Langley; 143 squadron, Banff Strike Wing; they lost their lifes 15.01.1945. over Norway. Thank's to everyone who help me with paint scheme, because I couldn't find any photo of this particular aircraft, including mr. Gordon Leith, from Hendon RAF Museum.

  5. Hello, Built this a while ago, however I never did a WIP or RFI. Last year I went to Duxford Flying Legends airshow and saw a Spitfire I'd been desperate to see. Fr.XIVe MV293 painted as Johnny Johnson's MV268. I picked up the Fujimi kit at the airshow and added a motor under the cowl. Here's the result. Cheers, Ben

  6. Hello Peeps, Had this old kit sitting on the shelf bought of Ebay, monograms 'Iron Curtain' series Su-25 Frogfoot, i corrected some obvious mistakes, scratch building the intake at the base of the tail, Eduards exterior detail set corrected the rest, also used Aires Cockpit, Eduard pylons, and armed with Eduard S-24L guided rockets, UB-32 rocket pods & a pair of Aphids. I also bought Authentic Decals Frogfoots in foreign service, and decided on an Iranian SU-25K of The Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps, pictured below, the decals were almost impossible to use use they disintegrated on touch, I wasn't sure if these aircraft were purchased from Russia, or were those impounded by Iran when flown from Iraq prior to 2003 Gulf war. Wonder if it was one of these that took a potshot at the US drone last year? Some errors remain, pics seem to show the 3 prong antenna on the nose and rear as opposed to the ones fitted. Anyway here it is, thoughts / comments welcome! P.S. I cant seem to find any other 'Iron Curtain' series kits? Do they exist?

  8. Hi folks I have just finished my Hasegawa A-4e as seen in Top Gun. The kit is great and I love building skyhawks, the last one was a classic airframes TA-4J. Paint was Humbrol acryclics for the main scheme with some Tamiya paints used for other bits and pieces. I used a resin escapac and the decals were Hasegawa. Beware if you ever make this scheme the kits paint instructions are quite wrong for the upper and lower wing surfaces and using some reference material will give you the right scheme. The kit decals are for just after the filming of Top gun, where 'Jester' is no longer on the a/c sides. There are some slight differences if you use any of the later reference photos where clear bits of overpaint are shown. Anyway apologies for the quality of the photos, it's something for me to work on.

  9. CITYbird guys, not SKYbird ... :-) The A300 is indeed a production run that Airfix has done for me many years ago. It will come in a nice box, style Boeing kits, and will have markings for Garuda Indonesia and TNT (so now true B4's) and full A300 wing Coroguard decals. The Boeing kits will come with Simpson decals (-300), Brussels Airlines (-400) and airBaltic (-500) + all three with the "general stenciling" markings as given with the first production. The -500 boxes will contain one of two different airBaltic decal sheets, both with 2 different ballerinas (there were 4 ballerinas) + the todays green tail version (one with the white letters, the other one with black letters). Latest target date of the container leaving will be April, so kits should be hitting the market in May... Let's hope this run will sell faster than the original production run (which took 7 years to sell out). Additional some new decals for these kits will become available too: B737-300/-400 TNT B737-300/-400/-500 Garuda Indonesia (including also recent paint scheme) And most B737-400s of TNT are former Garuda Indonesia a/c, so you can build one and the same aircraft in service with both airliners :-) Danny

  13. Chaps Having just seen the post ref SAM and a slight editorial cockup I've realised that having Britmodeller at hand has saved me a fortune. I used to buy mags quite regularly, maybe 1-2 a month, but due to the financial constraints I only ever buy a mag if there really is something worth reading in it! No, I'm not the slightly pongy bloke who always gets in the way whilst reading a mag (he always buys anyway) at WHSmiths. I'm the bloke who quickly flicks through the mag to see if it's worth it or not. Most of the time the articles are just glorified adverts with no meaningful content or useful tips. I then think "I'll check Britmodeller about that first.......". That's when I come home and login to the "Mighty Brit" and quickly find a more interesting and informative post than any mag produces. It's a two way thing too, you can comment, you can josh, you can....... Well, you get the idea! So Roll on the Mighty Britmodeller! Sign up to Britmodeller and SAVE! You know it makes sense...... Rick.

  15. Hiya Folks, After a long time laid up over Christmas here is my first for 2014, the excellent Eduard 1/48th scale Spitfire Mk.IX kit converted to a Spitfire Mk.VIII and in the markings of 1 Sqn SAAF; Here are some pics of the build, using parts from the spares box the wingtips came from an ICM kit, the tail wheel and doors came from a Hasegawa kit,.....decals are Xtradecal although the serial was the wrong style so rounded letters and numbers from a Modeldecal set were used instead and the 1 Sqn SAAF badge was altered to match the original, although the real eagle was much more simplified on the real aircraft. The hardest part was scratch building a rectangular rear view mirror from the scrap etched metal,.....very fiddly; Some more of the finished model, hand painted using Humbrol enamels; Cheers Tony

  17. Hi all, First completion of the year for me and a welcome return to 1/72 scale with one of Airfix's lovely new Harrier tools. This is built OOB, with hindsight I probably shouldn't have put a wash through the panel lines as they are a bit heavy, but hey ho such is life!! Next up will be the even newer GR1 & GR3 as i'm having a Harrier fest at the moment! cheers simon

  20. Hi Everyone, I`m stuck between builds again ( going to have to get some `shake and bake` kits in the stash ) so I thought I`d show you my 1/48 Hasegawa Scooter I built a little while back Great little kit, pretty much fell together, only the decals gave any grief..... like most Hasegawa decals and refusing to settle down onto anything but a gentle curve So had to touch up quite a few cracks and tears around the rudder and vortex generators on the wings The bomb had to come from a weapons set as no armament included in the kit Hope you enjoy looking at, Cheers Russ

  22. This is Testors 1/72 scale version of the real stealth fighter .... the F-117 Nighthawk from Lockheed. The mystery and controversy back then before this craft was actually officially acknowledged was great fun and led to all sorts of speculations. When an image of this astounding machine was released, it was a stunner ....... how could such a strange shape fly very well !? No matter, with computer help it actually did fly OK and did it's very deadly dark-of-night job in a ghostly manner and extremely well. The actual wing sweep was a matter of confusion early on, I recall, leading to some models perhaps jumping the gun a bit, but this Testors 1/72 kit seemed really nicely done and it's a very enjoyable model to build and look at on display. Hard to believe all these real craft are now long retired and museum pieces ! My Missus came up with a cracking idea...She does cross stitching, using silks...Yep she said try this, handed me a wrap of silk, a perfect match for the blue and it looks awesome...So pictures will be posted soon Keep up the cracking work, am really enjoying this, and don't beleive anything they say about Pilots...TBH, looking at your work I think you were wasted, you should have been a JEngO!!!

  29. I actually finished my exam yesterday with several hours to go! It was too late to meet up with my friends to celebrate so I did that by finishing off the black areas haha, it will be properly celebrated tonight though! Of course I should've listened to Tim about making small tac sausages along the black edges but I guess I got too eager. It looks pretty good as it is but I think it will look better with a liiittle fading so I will redo the fuselage line and also the nacelles. Tomorrow I'm moving back to the city were I study and on sunday all students from my program will go skiing so I think the Lanc will have to rest for a little while now. And here's how I run around with my mobile modelling workstation from town to town, IKEA-bags is the way to go! You all have a nice weekend now! /Erik

  30. Fellow modelers - It has been brought to my attention that there are some people out there that are under the impression that the fire the destroyed Jenning's house also destroyed fündekals. Not true. Our stock was not in his house. We are open for business. I was unaware that the rumor of our demise was circulating as we've been receiving and processing orders daily straight through the holidays into the new year. If for some reason you did not receive an order, or it did not get to you in a timely fashion, then please contact me directly. It is my understanding that USPS staffing and the weather here in the states caused massive delays in REGULAR mail. Thanks for a fantastic year and look for more new and exciting decals from us in 2014. Jonathan

  32. Ta Chaps. I probably can't remember what half the clickable bells n whistles do now.......I had enough trouble with the pre-start checks after a fortnight's leave - so no chance after 24 years. I can remember the feeling of sitting in the cockpit and thinking - right; what's next? Uumh? Never actually forgot - but needed the odd mental nudge to get going now and then. Ahh. It's a bit of a cheat really Mark. They're not really proper round. Here's the kit - not awfully sophisticated. After scribing the line with my the electric sewing machine needle (which has been brilliant for the job), I enlarged it to a trench with a Tamiya scriber so that I could get a half round knife blade in it vertically and side on - see what I mean? I scraped this blade along the full extent of hinge line so that it pared down the 'round' edge of the aileron at an angle whilst leaving the wing edge vertical. I then scraped a fine straight blade along the hingle line at a more acute angle to give the 'round' edge a couple of flat planes to mimic a properly round edge. It was obviously important to keep the blade at a constant angle during each scrape and to scrape along the full extent of the hinge line each time: I could probably have carried on scraping at different angles to make it more nearly round. But actually after just a couple of angles the impression was good enough. Simples. The Airfix plastic is a tad soft and so accepts this sort of treatment really well. Steve

  40. The Combined Bomber Offensive was "Ineffective"? Seriously? Albert Speer didn't think so. The Strategic Bombing Survey concluded that strategic bombing HAD made a significant contribution to victory especially in areas such as the disruption of oil production and crucially, submarine production - an area that could well have altered the shape of the final outcome. Did strategic bombing win the war on its own? No, of course it didn't. Nor did any other single factor (although the atomic bomb is arguable) but it certainly contributed to the outcome. Again, the bomber offensive was part of a war waged on many fronts with combined arms. There is no single wonder weapon that won the war. What use was the Mustang in The Battle of Britain? What use the T34 at El Alamein? Everything has to be viewed in the context of its circumstances AND in the wider ones of the whole course of the war. Why is it important that one plane be seen as 'the best'? I genuinely don't understand. It was the men that used what was given to them that were the most important and I don't want to lose sight of that. Sorry.
