  1. I can't believe I neglected to this one hereabouts. This is the OOP F-rsin Bristol Brabazon. It's a monster kit of a monster airplane which was a monster to build. And with a friendly 737 for scale I built these a couple of years ago for a civil aircraft group build on another site.

  2. Hi, here is my latest finished model of J35 Draken. The model is Hasegawa standard J35F enriched using Aires cocpit, quickboost seat with belts and Maestro models canopy and intakes and vertical tail top. All markings are airbrushed using custom masks. Thanks fo looking S.

  4. Pics from Monday night: A couple views of much masking for the blue fin and spine. I mixed Humbrol No.14 blue with Compucolor RLM?? blue to get a reasonable match. Both enamels and airbrushed. So now you know which option I'm going for. PS/edit:The lower view shows some of the masking removed.

  5. Hi all; This is my first post... go gentle! Here is my Academy 1/48 Spitfire FR. MK.XIVe. This is only my 4th completed kit, and the one I am happiest with so far. This is completely OOB, no aftermarket parts were added etc. This is also my first kit working with an airbrush. I certainly learned a LOT making this, and I am looking forward to the next kit. I think some of the weathering is a bit overdone, but some of that was to cover up mistakes I made etc. For example, at one point I sprayed a bunch of rubbing alcohol out of a stuck syringe while trying to clean it, and got a nice line of drops all across the bottom of the plane, completely dissolving the silver right through to the plastic. I welcome any critiques at all. I am sure there are flaws in the kit, but as I said this is OOB and I was mainly concentrating on learning techniques, mastering my airbrush etc. Thanks for looking! - phil

  6. Hi my name is Ken I used to model 1/48 scale aircraft many moons ago then stopped for years and only recently got back into it after finding out that there is so much you can do with aircraft now especially with all the aftermarket stuff that is out there, Anyhoos some time ago I saw a documentary about Robert Johnson and his P-47 Thunderbolt " Half Pint " and how he survived the attack from Egon Mayer , I was so impressed with the way the Thunderbolt behaved that I just had to build one . So after much searching ( as I didn't know much about model kits ) I found Tamiya 1/48 P-47 Thunderbolt Razorback , found decals for all four of Johnsons aircraft and considering that I had not built any aircraft models since I was a nipper and did not have any reference or advice from anyone I built this . And I just got to say what a dream of a kit it was to build . Please feel free to add any comments or criticisms . Thanks Sorry about the blur If your'e wondering what the blob is on top of airframe ....... it is meant to represent it being burnt The black spots on windscreen represents hydraulic fluid which blinded Johnson while he was spinning through the air

  7. Excellent work, especially when bearing in mind how small this is - those giant piccies lull us into believing that's a 1/24 scale engine....!!

  8. Thanks Nigel Update on the gazelle, well specifically the turbomeca Astazou. The engine is almost complete; below are a 2 in progress photos (not the greatest, one was taken in the evening). The remainder of the photos are as the engine was this morning. There is still more work to be done on the engine. There are some small bands of yellow and steel to paint around the oil tank / air intake. Some additional detail to add around the tubing that connects to the exhaust. The exhaust will also receive some further weathering. Then comes the fun part of fitting the FOD mesh guard for the air intake. My initial plan failed but working on another approach. Hopefully should get this fitted soon. Thanks for looking Cheers Aaron

  9. Most/all group builds can have Obsolete kits built within. Maybe we should have a society for obsolete builds, so all such kits should have a topic name like "SOB: Frog Macchi Mc-202" Regards, V-P

  10. People have been asking about whether we will be having another GB. I'd like to point out that the logical successor to this GB for 2015 is the Less Than A Tenner GB. That one is intended to provide nice, simple OOB builds which will be a lot of fun and will go a long way towards reminding people of the simple joys of modelling - just like this GB did. Hopefully those who joined in here and had fun will join in there next year - and also have fun!

  11. Easter egg packaging, the clear boxes roller blinds come in, or any of those clear packages you have to cut your way in to to free, say, headphones (and then avoid cutting yourself on the sharp edges) all work well in my experience. Clear plastic lemonade bottles don't... PM me if you want some roller blind box... Bestest, M.

  12. My other build for this GB that made it was this Hasegawa Foxbat. I was invited to join the build with this model. I built it for the Telford show to demonstrate the new Precision Ice and Snow product for thier table at Telford this year. Amazing stuff and people. Easy to use too. Here my Foxbat has a powder snow effect. Shame the pitot tube got knocked off but these things happen and easy to fix later. Cheers Rob

  13. Been spending the last few years gradually replacing my old Bomber command builds with newer ones and today had the photo booth out so thought I'd get some up to date pics done. Also been dabbling on Photoshop and used the fancy gizmo buttons to reduce the intensity of the blue card colour to a somewhat more greyish blue! They've all been on here at some stage, but thought it be good to stick them all in one thread as to where I'm up to. A bit of a mix between old and new, hope you find the thread a bit of inspiration to dig into the stash and get more BC stuff up here at Britmodeller Starting with a couple of Matchbox kits... The ungainly Heyford made with some scratch building to the cockpit, but largely straight from the box The Wellesley using the Falcon canopy set, resin engine and scratch built cockpit and main gear interiors New Revell Halifax B.II using the Matchbox wings and Aeroclub props & radiators. Just noticed the inner props had dropped forwards...doh !! Airfix Halifax B.III with scratch built interior, bomb bay, WEM gear bays and Falcon canopy set robbed from it's older deceased sister! Hot off the Bench, the Airfix Blenheim Mk.IV with lots of work done to it Trumpeters Wellington Mk.Ic with a bit of internal scratch building and home made bomb bay doors. These are the original RFI pics CMR's resin Lancaster B.II conversion using the Revell kit as a donor Revell donor kit again using the HBM Manchester Mk.Ia conversion kit. Still need to change the wheels and somehow create an accurate Fn.4 turret Airfix Stirling Mk.III with Resin Art wheels, Falcon canopy and a ton of scratch building Revell Dambuster built for the Bomber Command SiG where we displayed all the aircraft that okk part in the raid Frog Whitley using HBM resin engines and Falcon canopy set mixed with blood and tears! Last but not least, Airfix (Bilek actually) Fairey Battle with Falcon canopy, scratch built cockpit and extended nose Next BC off the production line will be the Hasegawa Grandslam. Edit..... Here's the grandslam a few years later! And another Manchester - Revell / Planet lovechild... Update April 2016 - a couple of additions ... Italeri's Stirling - McRoberts Reply Blackbird's Manchester conversion... Thanks for looking

  14. After picking up the new HB YF-23 yesterday, I thought I would have another go at the BAE Tempest I built back in 2006. For those not familiar with it, this was the original pic the model was built from..... And this was the finished model.... This one will be done with more detail than the original as the first was in my opinion rather basic. Work on this is done for the next few days, but I will return to it by next weekend.

  16. GDay folks, Well, there she is, the backup mount of Major Hartmann. The subject? Very enjoyable, such scheme gives endless possibilities of interpretation, even if there would be a picture of the actual ship. In the end I’m quite happy with the outcome. That’s what makes Luftwaffe camouflages so enjoyable and popular, I’m not the first making such statement. Here's the build: http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234950943-132-revell-bf109-g6-hartmann-backup-ac/ Hope you enjoy it as much as I did. Thanks for looking. Cheers Maurice

  19. Hi all What a weird-looking flying machine! I'm not sure if the old pilot's saying "if it looks right, it will fly right" stands up with this beast! I picked the kit up for £6 last year in "themodeller.com" sale. I think the flying wing is a fascinating concept and the B-2 owes a lot to the Horten brothers' research in wartime Germany. Here are a couple of pictures of the Horten Ho II L "Habicht" (Hawk) that I took last year at the Deutsches Technikmuseum in Berlin: And here is a B-2 in flight captured at the 2004 Royal International Air Tattoo: And here is a B-2 on static display at the 2012 Royal International Air Tattoo: I started building the kit yesterday afternoon and had completed it by 9am today (albeit with a very early start!) The kit and instructions are marked "Revell Monogram 1993" and not being an expert, I have absolutely no idea how accurate it is! I did not look at any references (including my own pictures) before painting it Tamiya NATO Black, as it is actually grey. To keep it on its nose-wheel, I super-glued some washers and garden shingle behind the cockpit bulkhead I applied the decals over a couple of coats of Klear and then sealed them with W&N Galeria Satin Varnish, although I will apply a coat of Matt later, as it is too glossy. A quick, fun build! Thanks for looking. With a 2p coin for reference:

  23. This is my first ready-for-inspection - I did not do a build thread for it as I have only been on the site for a short time. The kit is resin only, with a (somewhat tricky) clear vacuum formed canopy. I followed the build in Model Airplane International in July 2013 as it looked rather fetching in the very dark green featured.

  27. Hello Gents, Why on earth building such an epic fail of a kit? I Have Hasegawa and ICM kits, even the new Eduard, so ? Well, wans't very productive this year and wanted to build fast and OOB. So, the kit has real shape issues, but in the end it looks like a Spit : nose too short, spinner of a strange shape, rear fuselage too low at fin base, and of course the U/C is too angled and te legs are certainly too wide apart. And I somehow mange to lose the underside formation light during the pic shooting. Well, here are the pics, anyway. Hope you'll enjoy and comments welcome as usual. Best Stef (#6)

  28. Thanks Steve, glad you like it. I was not looking forward to the decals, but they were actually quite easy to apply. Thanks, Pat. I will keep an eye open for your 1/72 example in RFI soon! Thanks, F-32. It is a quick and easy build, although my advice woulbe be to avoid detailing the flight deck, as it won't be visible when the model is finished! What a fantastic model. Thanks for posting the link, Mark. You're not wrong, Parabat! Thanks Val. It is a weird-looking thing, isn't it? Thanks, Mark. My wife is in agreement with you! Despite having seen it at airshows several times and having looked at numerous pictures of it, I was convinced it was very dark grey or black!

  32. I agree with both comments, but I still think we need to try for the GB's again in 2015. If we can somehow get the attention and numbers it would be nice for this to be an annual event in the GB calendar same as the KUTA GB event, but I think thats a way off. To get the exposure we need the WIP and RFI sections are where we need to be. Have just posted (well about ot) a rather long winded idea for a Whif, don't know if I will have the time for it, but maybe it will inspire someone. It involves a TSR-2 and a Tornado!

  33. These will be fine. If you paid less than a tenner its in... Go on, be daring. Hopefully for under a tenner no matter what choice you make it won't be too daunting... Hi Ben. Yep me and Radleigh at the helm guiding you all through these perilous waters. Good to have you involved. Lol, Yes of course it wasn't expensive darling. Welcome aboard. Welcome. There are some nice choices there including a few choppers. The Russian stuff looks nice. Thanks Enzo. It was the Obsolete GB that got me thinking about the idea behind this. Simple, Fun and a GB for the masses. Welcome aboard everyone...

  35. Nice Brabazon Jessica. A favorite aircraft of mine. I used to work in some Airbus offices by the hangers where this was built and the runway at Filton, Bristol where it was flown from. This was also just outside the office window: Sadly the airport is now closed and the Concorde is no longer open to the public.

Was thinking of a Norwegian scheme for it, but could be persuaded otherwise... will get thinking!! Looking forward to it! In fact, having thought about it I have a plethora of unusual trainers and drones lurking around, so as well as the Harvard maybe one of the following, but I don't want to overstretch myself... 37. Hi everyone, Here's one I just finished, Airfix's Sea King built for a 'multi-engine' GB on another forum. As you may well know, the fit on this one is a bit of a shocker, especially around the nose, cockpit and intakes. But am really happy how it turned out in the end. Personally, I thought I went a little OTT on the weathering but some people who've seen the real thing in action said I was a little restrained! Build thread is here and to recap... Build: Added interior seats and rescue gear; opened left side door. Engine filter was resin aftermarket; extended main blades to new spec. FLIR camera scratchbuilt. Paint: Primed with white Halfords primer, brushpainted with Humbrol acrylic yellow and Revell Aqua colour acrylics. Tamiya clear green for the window tint. Finish: Future; original kit decals. Pro Modellers wash and pencil weathering. Thanks for looking and enjoy your modelling! Dermot

  40. I've often said the same thing about the Swedish Air Force where I spent close to 40 years before retiring. There are a couple of veterans on Facebook who share a lot of stories, but it's only the type of stories that doesn't have to be "censored", nothing of the juicy stuff and no mentioning of "names". But I know from my own experienece after all those years, that there are pleny of that other type of stories (know quite a few ones myself), especially from the mess. I've often said that if the mess walls ever could talk, they would shut up and keep quiet!

  46. Artwork has now been added for the Xtradecal sheet: http://www.hannants.co.uk/product/X72193 I was hoping for one of the pre-war 'NQ' coded aircraft for the 43 Squadron Hurricane, but I'm not complaining about getting FT-R/L1727 . Given that the kit was top of Hannants' best sellers list for several weeks there's surely ample scope for a part 2 with more squadrons/options. Hopefully the metal winged version won't be too far off, now that it's appeared in the Airfix Advent calendar.

  48. Many thanks! The first task after yesterday's update was to sand the filler. Once this was done, I could check my handy work against the plans and to ensure everything was as it should be: Everything looked pretty good, so I could then start to add the additional details found on the legs. This was done with more plastic card and Evergreen strip, as well as a few parts from the spares box: Test fit, test fit, and test fit again is essential when scratch-building - here you can see the leg looks exactly as it should when mounted on the forward spar in the undercarriage bay: Now I was happy with the look and sit of the legs, it was time to add some primer: Here is a test fit of the main wheels: All in all, not bad, when you consider what I started with... nothing! The retraction mechanism will need to be done, but I feel the hardest part was the main casting of the Messier strut, and now that's out of the way it should be plain sailing from here... Tom
