  1. Hello everyone, This is my first post in this section since joining BM and I chose one of my recently finished kits, the great Academy Phantom. It´s also one of my best work to date.In the first pic one of the missiles was falling and I didn´t notice. The missiles are a bit difficult to stay glued because the contact points are minimal, but the bombs and drop tanks fit like a glove!Hope you like it. Cheers, Bruno

  2. "At eventide, after payers, I did go into my room of hobbeyes, and there unlidded a box of wondrous plastick, its delights to make merry with. Verrily it struck me that the engraving was most delicate, like a lark's etchings, and the parts there within of an ethereal thicknesse. Alas Sirs I must report that upon cutting out the parts with my finest blade fashioned by Misters Swanne and Morton, the fit was a poxy rascal and much fowelle language was uttered, as of the chamber pot, whilst forcing parts into good order." That kind of diary? Jonners edit - I should just say its a great idea, and my scit above is in no way meant to lampoon, hopefully just to amuse.

  4. Hi mates, Having not gained any additional common sense from my last resin build, I decided to jump head first into another! This time it's the oft-neglected subject of the Supermarine Scimitar in glorious 1:72 scale, courtesy of the master craftsmen from the Czech Republic, CMR. The Scimitar, of course, was the last fighter to wear the Supermarine name, and the direct descendent of the legendary Walrus, er, Spitfire from WWII. Project: Supermarine Scimitar F.1 Kit: Czech Master Resin (CMR) Supermarine Scimitar F.1 (kit number 221) Scale: 1:72 (The Gentleman's Scale - then why am I here?) Decals: From the kit, representing XD324, 158-R, aboard H.M.S. Ark Royal in June of 1965 Photoetch: Included with the kit, primarily for the cockpit, air brakes, antennae, and wing fold area Vacuform: Two copies included with the kit, and for once I only needed one! Paint: Gunze H333 Extra Dark Sea Grey, H331 Dark Sea Grey, H339 Engine Grey FS16081;Testors 2143 RLM 21 Semi-gloss White, 2038 FS36492, 1168 Flat White; Alclad 101 Aluminum, 115 Stainless Steel, 314 Klear Kote Flat, and a bunch I forgot about. Weathering: Primarily post shading to simulate paint fading and wear, and the assorted stains and hydraulic fluid/oil streaks. I applied a light gray wash to the white underside, and black to the EDSG topside. Improvements/Corrections Just to fix ham-fisted mistakes from bone-headed modeller. Build thread: Link Now that all that nonsense is over, let's see some photos! Edit: The eagle-eyed amongst us will now doubt notice that I've had a bit of a nap and forgotten to add the port wing probe! Yikes! Please read through all the comments towards the end of the thread, and you'll find a photo showing the mysterious appearance of said probe, in its proper place on the port wing. No, not a bit of Photoshop magic, just the silly modeller fixing his mistake! I shot the underside before adding the outer wings and wing braces, since I didn't think I could figure out a way to prop it up when everything was finished! I couldn't resist some shots with her FAA stablemates and with her wing probe attached (in the photo with the Gannet). These photos were originally added in response to posts in this thread, but I figured while I was editing this (to replace the links to Photobucket) I would include them up front as well. It's back to normal (i.e. plastic) for my next build, if you call trying to build a B-24 kit from 1965 normal. Have a look in the Obsolete Kit Group Build every now and then and see how it used to be. You'll never complain about a missing rivet again! Cheers, Bill

  6. Hello I've recently finished the excellent Fine Molds Falcon in 1/144. It is excellently moulded with very little cleaning up to do, and it could fit together with practically no glue. It only took me a couple of weeks which is really fast for me. Damage on the underside and topside near the jaws was done with the sharp end of a needle file, and the top deck blast holes were done with a twist drill and then roughed up with the needle file, I did a bit of preshading and then went for Xtracolour Vietnam grey which I'd used on a Phantom, thinking that the weathering would warm it up a bit, and I'm happy with how it ended up I think the colour turned out right. the coloured patches were painted with Citadel foundation paints and the grey was a Vallejo colour, rather than using the decals. Likewise I masked up the windows with tape rather than cutting out their masks as it seemed much easier. Weathering was done with oils, and a few panels were gone over with a thin oil paint filter to change the shade.it was left in half until I'd painted inside the 'jaws' and engine. The engine was hard to make look good, I wasn't entirely happy with it but it's as good as it will get. Smokey bits were Tamiya Smoke, I didn't want it too dark like some are. It was all sealed up with Tamiya clear with some flat base added. I used the stand from a Polar Lights 1/1000 Enterprise as they're really good, the stand in this kit was a bit clumsy I thought. This is a practice run for the main event- the 1/72 kit! Here's the pics.

  11. This was completely ignored by the media but I've just discovered it in the new issue of Spaceflight (the BIS magazine). Former astronaut Gordon Fullerton died on 21 August aged 76, from complications following a stroke in 2009. He flew two space missions - STS-3 in 1982 and STS-51F/Spacelab 2 in 1985, amassing a total of 15 days 22 hours in orbit. However he was also Pilot on two of the five ALT flights in 1977, when the orbiter Enterprise was dropped from the 747 carrier aircraft for Approach and Landing tests. He was selected as an astronaut in September 1966 as part of the US Air Force's Manned Orbital Laboratory Group 2 intake, and moved to NASA as part of their Group 7 in August 1969 following MOL's cancellation. He also logged 16,000 hours in 135 different aircraft.

  14. I have not put much on recently, but I thought I would submit this. It is a conversion using the 1980’s Airfix Lancaster and the DB Lincoln conversion in resin and vacform. I cannot remember what year I bought the conversion, but it must have been in the mid 80’s, so I thought I ought to get round to building it. In the conversion there are new wingtips, engines and nose in resin. A vacformed fuselage extension and outer engine nacelles with clear vacformed mid upper and rear gun turrets, bomb aimers transparency and H2S radome are also provided. The props had to be sourced separately if I recall and came from Aeroclub. Anything else had to be scratch built. This conversion turned out to be a bit of a challenge, partly of my own making. Most of the resin parts fit quite well, but apart from the wing tips everything is a butt joint and I used epoxy resin adhesives and for some parts I used P38 car body filler to fill joints for added strength. I had problems with two areas. The vacformed plug to extend the fuselage is too long (Guess how I found that out!) and the plastic on the outer engine nacelles is very thin. I used the original engine nacelles as a support for the resin engine nacelles and ended up using quite a lot of scrap plastic and filler to give some strength to vacform nacelles. The rudders were kit items with extensions from plastic card and the gun turrets had scratch built interiors suggestive of the real thing. Aeroclub provided the 20mm cannon and the rear 0.5 Brownings came from a Revell B17 being built as a RAF 100 Group Fortress III. The interior had detail added and as so much of the exterior detail was sanded off, a fair amount of secribing of panel lines etc was done. The new taller astrodome was plug moulded and Colin at Freightdog released his treaded Lancaster/Lincoln wheels at jus the right time. They fit well and I think were the easiest part of the build. The markings are from a Kits at War sheet for a 57 Sqn aircraft in 1950 finished in Medium Ses Grey and Black. Apparently at that time nose guns were not fitted (seems to be supported by the photos). The model lacks the exhaust stains which are always present on any photo of Lincolns and will be added shortly.

  15. Hello Folks Always wanted to have a what if Intruder in Malaysian colours......as I believe they were considered under the perista scheme......by the Malaysian government when they were planning for large numbers of fighter bomber aircraft........the Skyhawk PTM eventually was chosen...... So dug out an ancient Hasegawa 1/72 Intruder A and came up with this.....please note the wheel wells are not closed as lot of work is needed to get it right..........for wheel up config......might just put it on its gear..... Sorry for the pictures ......colours are close to the Skyhawk colours but I could only find the tebuan or tutor serials and square insignias......hey its what if......... Rgds Mr B

  18. Hi All, This is a continuation of a WIP thread I started ages ago on the Real Space/SF section. I've finally got the build completed and moved it here because my real interst is armour and, after all, it is a tank I'm building...... Anyway, here's the build complete and ready to start on the painting stage. Colour wise I'm torn between paining it up along the lines of an old LNER locomotive or going for a straight WW I type finish. Either would work I think. (WWI style would be easier for sure!). I'm going to have a stab at making my own decals for this one - something I've never tried before. Dave

So this is what it looks like. Hope you like. Next this weekend will be putting the decals on. But first on Saturday is the North Surrey model show. Comments are always welcome .......as they say........ "What do you think of it so far ?" Thanks for looking.

  20. Because a line of identically-camouflaged aircraft would be more prominent because of the repetition - the human mind is rather good at picking out that sort of thing. It was abandoned (mainly) early in the war to speed production by providing one less thing to worry about. The original idea was to have four schemes by exchanging the colours, something which only rarely happened except on Desert schemes, where it seems to have been mistakes rather than intentional.

  23. Hi The Boeing 767 is a nice plane, especially in the British Airways livery! Revell released there 767 in the 1990's, they included RB211's as an extra sprue. They released one of there kits with British Airways decals, the Gulf Air boxing. The Revell 767 has been out of production for a while now, but it's still knocking about. Your best bet to do a British Airways Boeing 767-300 is finding one of the Revell 767's as they have the correct engines, RB211's. The zvezda boxing doesn't have RB211's, it has CF6's. These power nearly every other 767 in the sky! So your choices are buying a revell 767 and building it out of the box or buying the Zvezda kit and after market engines. Braz models have released 1/144 RB211's for the 767. They are solid resin and will need a bit of work, but they are RB211's. You cant use or even mod the engines from the Zvezda, they are completely different! The RB211's on the 747-400 have different pylons i think. If you can get a set of Revell 767 RB211's you can use them on the zvezda kit, just fill the pylon gap on the wing and glue it on! Anyone who has built a Revell 767 with CF6's will have a spare set of RB211's. The Engines CF6's RB211's The engines are different shapes. The Kits Revell Boxing's Ace Models Boxing Zvezda Boxing Braz Engines http://www.hannants.co.uk/product/BZ4006 Liveries You have plenty of choice when it comes to doing a British Airways Boeing 767-300. You have the Landor, ethnic and chatham tails. Chatham The Current Livery The current livery (with the crest) The Crest - RichW will supply them Ethnic Tails Old Livery Landor Old Livery The Decals Several decal makers have provided the decals for you. If you want the Chatham livery you have a choice between Two Six and RichW. If you want the Landor livery you have Two Six again. Two Six - http://www.twosixdecals.co.uk/epages/62035508.sf/en_GB/?ObjectPath=/Shops/62035508/Products/STS44178 & http://www.twosixdecals.co.uk/epages/62035508.sf/en_GB/?ObjectPath=/Shops/62035508/Products/STS44186 RichW - http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/user/7216-richw/ Boeing 767-200! For a short period in the 1990's US Airways operated a couple 767-200's in British Airways livery, these have the CF6 engines, so the engines in the Zvezda and Revell kit will be okay. Although it will require you to shorten the fuselage. The instructions are available on Draw Decals website. The decals for the 767-200 are also available by Draw Decals Draw Decals - http://www.shopdrawdecal.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=44-767-36 Other RB211 767 Options If you decide against doing a British Airways bird there are a couple other 767 operators who have RB211's. These are China Yunnan, China Eastern, Mongolian Airlines, Orient Thai, Saudi Arabian (Leased) and Qantas. Hope this all helps! Thanks Bradley

  24. Firstly, upload your pictures to PhotoBucket (PB) - we'll assume you know how to do that, if not look at their help files for assistance This is where you ought to be on PB. Hover over the photo you want to post, and you'll see a little cog icon. Click that and it'll bring out the menu below. Click the Share Links menu item: That brings up a pop-up window as follows, and you should click the Direct box to copy the text to your clipboard, as below: From the posting window on the forum, making sure your Rich Text Mode toggle is ON, and all your icons aren't greyed out. When the dialogue box pops up, press CTRL+V or right-click/Paste with your mouse to place the code in the input box, then press return/enter. Press return/enter twice more to add some white space between pictures or before you start typing again, and you're done. Repeat as necessary. It's quick, easy and doesn't need any flapping about with BBCode NOTE: This is current as of 18th November 2014, but as sites are constantly changing, often for no apparent reason, these instructions may become outdated. If this is the case, just let me know and I'll get round to updating it as soon as I can.

  25. Hi Everyone, I`m stuck between builds again ( going to have to get some `shake and bake` kits in the stash ) so I thought I`d show you my 1/48 Hasegawa Scooter I built a little while back Great little kit, pretty much fell together, only the decals gave any grief..... like most Hasegawa decals and refusing to settle down onto anything but a gentle curve So had to touch up quite a few cracks and tears around the rudder and vortex generators on the wings The bomb had to come from a weapons set as no armament included in the kit Hope you enjoy looking at, Cheers Russ

  26. Hi folks; Here's the Wingnut Wings Fokker E.III (Late) 405/15 of Otto Pfalzer (3 victories) and Ernst Udet (62 victories), Kek Habsheim, March 1916. The build guide as an errata entry on me Wingnut website that specifies removal of the wing mounted compass and the addition of an anemometer on the leading edge of the other wing. My knife hovered over that lovely compass and call me daft but I just couldn't hack it out so it stayed in for being a beautiful piece of detail. My other departures from the Wingnut build map were to swap out the lovely kit Spandau etch for a Master Models turned brass Spandau jacket. The kit gun has a 'stub' muzzle, whereas the Master item totes the longer, more archetypal version. The rigging was completed in 0.05mm Reflo fishing line, painted black (another departure), as I wanted to emphasise the fragility of these aircraft, so dropped down from the 0.15mm in the Wingnut guide. Bob's Buckles, brass micro tubing and Gas Patch Type 'C' tensioners round out the rigging inside and out.. My model shares the predilection that seems evident in other web and magazine builds - gentle anhedral, whereas the wings should be level. I have a cure for this that I will inflict on my second E.III and publish in the forums here subsequently. You will no doubt be in shock to discover that it is a lovely release from those Wing-nutters down under and I'm just glad to be drawing breath and possessed of a pulse in this golden age of plastic tickling. The Garuda prop was finished with AK Interactive's Track Wash, Tamiya Clear Yellow and Clear Orange and the hub dressed in Xtracolor Oily Steel, with thinned Tamiya Smoke to garnish, before getting the satin look. Page 20 of the Wingnut destructions show an E.III with dusty looking wings, stowed along the fuselage. AK Interactive's Dust Effects, followed by some 'scribbling' with the airbrush, for a disrupted finish that mimicked the reference photo. The eisernkreuz on the fuselage were repeated top and bottom in this unit. Correct placement began with the port side decal, then the two part top, the opposite side and finally, underneath. The 'A' frame works hard for a living in this build... The HGW 'fabric' belts were an absolute joy to assemble, weather and use. Those big 'ole wing decals needed a lot of water to allow adjustment time but fit the outboard cable attachment points perfectly. The cowl and forward fuselage metalwork base paint was Alclad II Aluminium with Tamiya X-11 Chrome Silver for the 'swirls'. There's even a teddy bear in the box... The model appears in the November issue of Airfix Model World magazine, out today, Thursday 3 October. Best regards to all. Steve

  27. Well, after all that waiting, she's done. Tamiya's kit is a delight to build, one just has to remember the details aren't always present / or correct. The only additions are an RB Productions barrel and aerial. Once again, Humbrol's weathering powders have stepped up to the plate for this kit. After the initial painting, the model was given a couple of coats of white paint, thinned with decal cote. The paint was thinned so that a couple of coats were needed to cover the camo underneath. A brush moistened with water was used to remove some of the white, leaving a worn and thin looking distemper finish that was just about on it's last legs. Once happy with that, dark earth was mixed to a paste with matt cote and various other bits to thicken it. It was then applied liberally in some areas and splattered in others. I reckon it's turned out 'well 'ard'. Any way see what you think. On with the photos. W

  39. Completed this past weekend, Gentlemen. Here are a couple of pictures (more will be in the 'Finished' gallery): There were a few small adventures in the final stages, but nothing really worth going into detail over. I am happy enough with the results. I want to again thank Mr. Coulson (over on HyperScale) for his kindness in sending me the 802 Sqdn wing markings. They went down very, very nicely, laid onto Future: if all Sword decals are like that, they are first rate. I thought the thing was all one piece wit the roundels, but it was not, which mis-perception on may part led to some interesting moments, as there is a time-limit when using Future as a setting agent, but it all came out well in the end. I suspect, too, that the wing on the Sword kit may be about a millimeter longer than the one on the old Matchbox kit. I wound up putting serials on the lower wings. I was told in correspondence, in such a way that I credit it, that a photograph exists of this machine in flight at Dehkelia which clearly shows serials in that position. The Sea Gladiators of No. 802 Sqdn were probably the last English fighters to have upper wing squadron identity markings applied. It seems likely all those assembled and flown from Dekhaila had these applied, for display in fly past of farewell on June 6, 1939 for the Captain of H.M.S. Courageous, who was stepping down in favor of a new man. When war began, the Sea Gladiators were left behind, as the carrier was assigned to commerce protection in the Indian Ocean, a duty on which fighters would have been of little use and hardly needed.

  40. Here's an in-flight photo of a Mk. 31 (not sure whether or not it's VG471): http://www.ww2aircraft.net/forum/album/showfull.php?photo=16424 I'd say Dark Slate Grey/Extra Dark Sea Grey is pretty likely. Note the low contrast between the two colors. Note also that the areas that would have been Dark Green in a Dark Green/Ocean Grey scheme (EG the segment starting low on the forward fuselage and carrying over the cockpit) appear lighter than the other color, which is the way DSG appears against EDSG. Also, the spinner looks pretty much the same color as the undersides. Probably Sky? Cheers.

  42. Here is my latest contribution, the scale 1/48 Hasegawa TF-104G Starfighter. The Starfighter has always been one of my favourites, building the kit was a joy. The kit went together pretty well, I only had some trouble with the Hahen decals. They are not as easy as the look to apply. The kit represents the TF-104G 27+92 which was lost on 7 May 1982 while performing a low level attack at sea, killing both pilots.
