  2. Well here she is. Finished. Base Kit - Revell 1/32 Westland Lynx Mk88A Paints - Mr Hobby grey primer Grey - Tamiya grey primer Green - Mixture of Vallejo Air - 094, 096 (35%/35%), 010 (15%), 016 (15%) Blades - Tamiya AS06 spray Tamiya gloss and flat varnishes. Flory black and dart dirt washes. Figure - base figure from ADV/Azimut-Modell, head from Hornet. Modyfied to represent British Army Air Corps. Scratched helmet, nav bag and 'go-pack bergen' (milliput). Scratch built (predominantly moulded and resin cast using Sylmasta products): Nose, Skids, Exhausts, Interior (seats, instrument panel, rear 6 man seat, rear bulk head, harnesses plus all the other gubbins inside), GPMG mount, Fast rope Frame and mount, mesh intake guards, various antennas. Enhanced detail on IRJ, main and tail rotors, cockpit and cabin doors and a few other bits and bobs. And not forgetting the thousands of Archer rivets I applied! Build thread here. Without further ado; Yep, that is a scale map of South Armagh! Main head detail including 'Bonk', bonding leads (yellow), spectacles on lower blade root and bonding strips on blade roots. (All these bits are on the upcoming Eduard PE sheet release thankfully) Fast Rope Frame made from bits of alloy tube and plastic strips. Rope is a scale tow rope copper thing. Perfect scale and nice and flexible. I think my weathing of the nose panel lines is a bit too heavy so may wipe some of it away to reduce. BriteStar IR lamp and footstep fitted to right skid. Made using plastic strips and bits of PE. Enhanced tail rotor detail with teeny tiny little bolts fitted to the root of each blade and bonding straps at the blade roots made from tiny bits of wire. Intermediate gearbox area drilled out, gearbox scratch built and placed inside then mesh covers applied. Cant really see the gearbox but I know its there.... I made my own decal sheet as some of the markings weren't on the main Revell sheet. I'm quite happy with how the 655 Sqn crest has come out. Scratch built the ice accretion meter (black prongs just under cockpit door) then realised the Revell kit actually has it. Having looked at them, I'm glad I made my own. Scratch built armoured seats and weapons on the side of the seats. Incorrect for the period this model is set. Late 90s NI 655 Sqn aircraft in 'Role 1' for duty down South Armagh. At that time we actually carried HK53's and not the SA80 Carbines as I've fitted here. I made the seats and weapons for my InAccurate Armour Lynx before I lost interest in that bag of crap. I drilled out the hydraulic reservoir inspection windows and build little reservoirs inside then right at the end of the build, used Humbrol clearfix to create windows over the holes. Excellent GPMG from Live Resin Yep, they really are that dirty. If Lynx aren't leaking, there is something wrong and the fluids are empty... Get your bloody beret off on dispersal!!! "Yep, 1, 2, 3, 4 blades, good to go......." The full gambit of scales. L to R: Fujimi 1/144 (WiP), Corgi 1/72, Airfix 1/48, Revell conversion 1/32. Now, whos going to release a 1/24? This is my second Revell Lynx and it really is a very nice kit with very few vices. My dream kit has always been a good large scale Lynx. AA failed drastically at that but it was the only player in town until Revell released their kit. This conversion was quite straight forward once I'd overcome making the various masters for nose and skids etc. You may be pleased to know that I'm in discussion with a renowned company who wish to make this conversion set. Lets hope we can get something out in the near future. As I mentioned a bit earlier on, Eduard are about to release a whole host of PE sheets for the interior and exterior. Quite a lot of common detail can be used on most versions of Lynx and I'm looking forward to receiving it. Thanks for looking Tony

  3. I have 4 1/48 JP's on the go, 2 Aeroclub (T3 and 5). Fly T5 and this is the Heritage resin JP kit which I have finished. I made her as a XR679 JP4 of 79 Sqn RAF Brawdy. Canopy is poor so wasreplaced with a much clearer Aeroclub one (thanks John). This aircraft went to Cosford as an instructional airframe but is now in Canada. Apart the canopy a very enjoyable build. Photo's by IPMS Farnborough's club photogragher - Chris Bradley.

  4. This is the 1/48 scale Revell F-86D Sabre Dog. I think it turned out ok even though it suffered a near fatal chemical spill on the right front of the finished build.

  5. Hi - just about finished the 1/48 Revell Rafale B. Certainly been a learning curve for first model in too many years to count . I don't think you'd believe jusy how long this has taken to complete in terms of elapsed time. Anyway haven't decided if canopy open or closed so still loose fit for now. Exposure on pics has burned out the weathering a bit - must try harder. Already started next two projects so really would appreciate comments - need to learn. Do you think it's better to use poly adhesive for very small parts or super glue? Oh boy did that refuelling probe cause probs. The location on the model is a bit naff - smaller than a baby pimple. Finished up drilling hole in probe and fuselage then used a short length of wire to locate it whilst the adhesive dried.

  8. Hi, I decided to give an overhaul to all my older kits within the next few weeks or so. I will be introducing them to you one by one always when I finish the overhaul. Entering in the trainers shelf D.H.53 should have been the next introduced here. But the overhaul revealed itself to be much harder nut than expected (more of which hopefully later), so another airplane from the same stable comes in its stead. It is the venerable Frog 1/72 Gipsy Moth modified to represent K1213, D.H.60M of the CFS, ca.1930. I was not as bold as needed when I was building the kit and I left the fuselage sides flat without the prominent longitudinal stringers as would befit the metal version. So the modifications are limited mainly to the cowling area, the undercarriage and the upper wing (leading edge slats). Hand brushed with Revell and Humbrol enamel paints. Decals by Modeldecal. The red upper wing and tailplane surfaces are my own interpretation of the photography published (e.g.) in Air-Britain K File. As usual - no rigging. Thank you for looking and for your comments. 9. I got this at SMW 2012 from IanT (Heritage) and I believe it's the only game in town if you want to do a 1/48th version. I was quite pleased with the kit and it went together really easily not requiring much filling or trimming at all. If I have one axe to grind it's the canopy which the I cut into 3 pieces to display open. The front/middle sections are fine but the rear is very poor and I had to make do with what I had, luckily the open canopy does disguise it a bit but if you were wanting to have the canopy closed it would become an issue. Anyway lets focus on the good stuff, I'm quite pleased with the little jet and it sits quite nicely as I didn't obviously put enough weight in it so stretched some sprue and made a 4th leg. Paints are Appliance white and Humbrol aqua red and Metal cote for the jet pipe. I added the antennas and the anti-collision lights and the RBF tags to boot. It's modeled on a Linton bird from 1980.

  10. Completion of 4th of 8 1/48 B-17's. Markings for "Wee Willie" of the 91st BG. Usually seen in pic with 1 wing blown off at the root and going down. Wee Willie was 1 of the 91st's "Famous Four" of B-17's that logged an unsually large number of missions. The 4 B-17's involved were: Wee Willie-128 missions before being lost Out House Mouse-139 missions-survived war- but not Kingman, AZ Nine O Nine-140 missions-survived war- but not Kingman, AZ Hi Ho Silver-130 missions-survived war- but not Kingman, AZ Anyway, here's "Wee Willie". Hope you like. As a note, this is a rebuid of an original issue of this kit I built over 30 years ago!

  12. Just finished 3 1/48 scale B-17's. Still have 5 under construction. First completion is a Revell B-17F converted to a B-17E. Used the Paragon conversion set and marked it as "Swamp Ghost" before she went down. Enjoy.

  14. A right blast from the past, if it's the same kit. I built this one in about 1977! FGR-1, though loads of people say it's more like an F-4J with Spey shape (but not size) exhausts.

  15. Glad to see you managed to snag the model and it meets with your expectations Andy. Looking forward to seeing it built as whilst i knoew you wanted one i didn't really have much of a clue as to what the aircraft was apart from an interwar wood & wires jobbie, it actually looks quite interesting with a turret and canopy. After seeing you miss out on a couple of eBay examples by either timing or price when i spotted that last friday in the 2nd hand section i thought i hand better contact you ASAP before it was snapped up by somebody else. Now you know why some friends refer to me as EKFG (Evil Kit Finder General) as i tend to remember what friends mention when discussing kit wish lists and when i spot them i'm evil enough to point it out them regardless . 17. Thank you both! I have that superb book! Bought my first Polish-designated Mustang III today. Not sure which decals I´ll be using though. Horbaczewski is really interesting but not uncommon it seems (both in Tamiya´s and Academy´s 1:48 and 1:72-kits it seems!) I have studied a little Polish, have one close Polish friend and my brother is married to another so I think I´ll manage.. However, those two don´t know Horbaczewski´s nickname so you can help me with that if you want to (Dziubek). I know it says "darling" or "kid" in "Polish Aces..." (Osprey) but is there more meaning in it..? Anyways, I am sure there will be a 65. Squadron Mustang IVa as well as a bunch of Polish ones - I have soo many decals for them and hate to let them go to waste.

  20. I'm fascinated by the 'Preshade or not' school of thought. I suppose I'm attracted to the 'its my model' rule. I presume that people pre-shade to give a sense of age and wear. I was fortunate to have been taught by an Spitfire driver when I was at school, who showed me his old photos of his aircraft and squadron mates. Even taking into account they were black and white photos, none of them showed the kind of heavy pre-shading I see from time to time. His reason? They didn't last that long in combat. Scale up some of these models to real life, and they would look weird and require re-painting! The above comments are indicative of the differing views on the subject. Just a thought. Your model is great mate. It's your canvas. You do whatever you want to. I look forward to seeing it! Jas.
