  1. This is the Heller 1/400 King George V finished as HMS Anson in 1942. It's taken me 4 years on and off to finish. I have cut corners with some of the accuracy, but as a prototype it'll do. It's due to go on a sea base when I get the plinth, so this is it roughly cut and finished. I finished it with a wood deck from Scaledecks.com and WEM enamels. I used the Raven & Roberts colours of AP507A, AP507C, B5 and B6 with MS2 decks and upper surfaces. Finished in a seascape: Just needs a few flags and she's done! Alan EDIT: new pictures added

  3. Hiya Folks, While cleaning my cabinet over Christmas I`ve photographed most of its occupants and I thought that some of you might like to see them? I thought that it might be more interesting to group them into posts featuring the same type and so first off are some models of the British Martlet/ Wildcat. Some of them have appeared in the past within articles or have been posted here on Britmodeller so I apologise if they are already familiar but I hope that they can be of interest to somebody! First off here is the Martlet Mk.I, built in 1/48th scale and converted from the Tamiya kit, although the nose area between the wheel well and the engine is too short; Martlet Mk.II, again converted from the 1/48th Tamiya kit; Martlet Mk.III, first of all in 1/48th scale using the Hobbyboss kit; and some 1/72nd scale Martlet Mk.III`s too; Martlet Mk.IV, again converted from the Tamiya kit in Operation Torch markings; Martlet Mk.V, using the Dragon 1/72nd scale kit with folding wings; Martlet Mk.VI, built from the 1/48th scale Sword kit; 1/72nd scale built from the Sword kit and the Hobbyboss kit converted; and last of all, here is an imposter from the USA, built using the 1/48th scale Hobbyboss kit; I do hope that they have been of interest and if anybody wants to see any more I`ll follow on with similar posts for the Avenger, Barracuda, Swordfish, Sea Hurricane, Seafire etc, All the best Tony O

  5. Try to assemble them by sections of, lets say, 20 links. Use a straight edge to get them in line. Leave some individual links to be fitted around round shapes (traction and tensioner wheels). Before the glue is completely dry, shape the upper sections around the return wheels to give some "weight" appearence. When airbrushing, I prefer to give the main paint coats while on the sprues, then some touch up painting will be neeeded,of course. But the main thing that i use to do to avoid messing up with track links is: DON'T BUILD MUD MOVERS. :yahoo:

  6. Hi everyone, hope you all had a great Christmas and new year. This is the Hobbyboss 1/32 Spitfire Vb with the Barracuda cockpit set, RB harness and Master Hispano barrels. There are some generic cockpit placards from Fantasy Printshop as well. These were a bit fiddly, but I'm ok with how it turned out. Overall this kit went together very well, a few niggles here and there but I would say anyone can make a nice Spit from this one if they put a bit of effort in. I wanted to complete this kit in the markings of Flight Lieutenant Eric Lock. This was in part going to be a bit tricky as his aircraft has the victory sign on the sided of the fuselage, and in 1/32 scale it was going to be quite the challenge to get an acceptable result freehand. Fortunately, I found a Montex set on ebay that had the markings for Lock's aircraft. I had, however already done the kill markings, identifications and serials from generic decal sheets. No matter, the rest went in the spare decals folder, I'm sure they will be used at some point in the future. I used the Montex camo masking set for the paintjob, which worked absolutely superbly. Colours are Humbrol 90 (sky type s), 29 (Dark Earth) and 30 (Dark green). I gave the model a light panel wash wIth MIG dark - I didnt want to overdo this, in some areas its subtle, and others barely seen at all. Wear at the wingroots was done with Vallejo liquid silver lightly dabbed on with my drybrushing brush. I considered the planes must have gotten muddy boots on them as well so I did a light dabbing of MIG earth followed by a dark wash. Looks ok to me. Overall I'm pretty pleased with this one, It's the first model I've completed for some time, my original project (Revells 1/48 b-1b) falling by the wayside after a seemingly endless run of issues. There's a few glaring errors/omissions; the pitot tube decided to leap into orbit, the harness dosent appear to have an upper attachment point, little stuff like that, but I think it looks nice on the shelf and I really enjoyed building this one. Thanks for taking a look, all replies welcome Cheers, Jase.

  7. This is Tamiya's 1:35 PBR, it's taken the last 6 months or so of steady work. Both figures are Verlinden as are the ammo boxes, other bits & pieces are from here and there, gun barrels were drilled out where possible. The PBR will eventually be berthed with a "mother" ship & the LSSC below, when I find the space. This is Dragon's 1:35 Light Seal Support Craft [LSSC], the pilot of the boat is an Academy figure [i think] with bits & bobs, I know the mini gun is the wrong vintage but I think it looks the part. Like the PBR there are still a couple of bits to add, but not much. Hope you like them, there's some SEALS somewhere, but they're so well camouflaged I can't find them! Thanks for looking.

  8. As the other guys have said, it does sound like a Friday afternoon pot of paint and the normal consistency is pretty much like interior decorating emulsion. Bin the pot - or take it back - but try and stick with Revell Aqua as it's so easy to find - every LHS seems to stock it - and once thinned down I find it works really well. I thin with plain old tap water that's had some W&N flow improver added.

  9. Hi, this is my last project, it took me about a year to complete this model. Almost every aftermarket upgrade kits which are available for this kit were used: -Nautilus wooden deck -Eduard VII/C PE kit -White Ensign models type VII flood, drain and vent holes PE kit -Griffon FLAK-guns high detail kit -Modelbrass type VII PE kit -Archer transfers type VII rivet decal set I opened al the floodholes, added ribs inside the hull above the saddletanks, remade the railings from 0.5mm brass wire, scratchbuild the whole exhaust system wich lies beneath the deck, `oil canned` the hull, replaced about 800 rivets wich were sanded away, corrected the `bull nose` and corrected all the faults in this kit (wich are many....) 10. Here's my latest build, and a thoroughly enjoyable one at that. The new Hobby Boss kit seems to tick all the boxes, and is pretty much good enough out of the box, although the Pavla cockpit does trump the kit parts in every way apart from the control column, which ended up as an amalgam of both kit and resin parts. I caved in and got the Quickboost FOD guards, but other than those two items I just added some wiring to the main gear legs, a few bits to the nose gear well, and a little bit of finessing of the intakes to add a strengthening plate on the side of each one, and to show the blow-in doors relaxed after the engine stopped. I also added some framework to the underside of the clamshell cover to the lift fans, as well as a bit of bent solder to represent the big cable runs on the real thing. The kit was painted using Alclad primers and clear coats, plus a number of their excellent metallic shades, and all non-metallic paintwork was done with Lifecolor acrylics, with the exception of the pull-handles on the seat, as I don't have red in my Lifecolor armoury. The decals are from the kit, and the Afghanistan disruptive camo is partly from the instructions and partly fiction, while the decals are from the kit, and performed admirably. Choosing which ones to use on the undocumented side and underside was a PITA, but I got there in the end. A quick close-up of the cockpit to expose my wobbly demarcations! Thanks to everyone for watching... I now need to paint the clear wingtip lights, tip of the "anchor" thing under the nose, and build up some rear FODs... other than that, it's finished! The build thread can be found here if you fancy a read. Yak-38M Kit Pavla Cockpit Review sample courtesy of

  11. Hi everyone Finished this at the same time as my 757-200. It is the fantastic revell kit. I started this 3 years ago, messed it up back then by spraying way to much paint on it and it was slung into the box. I decided it was time to reserect it of the stash and i got to work sanding of the old paint and here are the results. Its all hand painted, i still havent got any paint.... Well enjoy the results! Thanks Bradley

  12. I'm calling this done, finished on the last day of 2012. I'm generally an aircraft modeller but I like to dabble in 1/48 armour. I was looking to do a very weathered and worn winter Stug and I wanted to try some of the AK interactive products and techniques to see if they would be transferable to my aircraft builds. I'm happy I achieved both those aims. I think it needs a base, and it a figure or 2 so maybe I'll add those later. I think it needs a antenna somewhere as well. The carpet monster ate the machine gun and shield so I've had to live without them. I also broke the armour modellers rule 101, i.e. every AFV needs a bucket. I did have one but forgot to finish it before photographing. Some Details Kit: Tamiya 1/48 Sturmgeschütz III Ausf.G (Sd.Kfz.142/1) Stowage: Legend and Verlinden PE: legend (the intake screens and rear frame is part of the legend stowage set) Metal Barrel: RB Model

  15. Here is my 1/32 Trumpeter F-100D, representing an a/c of the 20th. TFW based at Wethersfield in the 60's. This was a subject I've been wanting to do for some time, as I live not far from the 20th. TFW's old base, and spent most of my school holidays watching their activities from "Over the fence" I was initially put off by the less than flattering reviews of this kit, but decided in the end that I had to have one! I did use a few after market parts for the model, as well as the excellent Eagle Strike decals. Here is a list of mods that I did? Zactoman nose section, Aires cockpit. AMS ejection seat. Aires jet pipe and nozzle, Renaissance wheels, Master Model pitot probe. I had to scratch build the pitot probe mounting, as the kit one was oversized for the new one. I also shortened the mainwheel legs in order to get the correct "nose up" sit of the real airplane. Painted with Plasti-Kote aluminium (Rattle can) and a mix of Humbrol and Xtracolor. This model turned out as one of the best I've made, so hope it meets with your approval. All comments (Good or bad!) welcome. Now on to my 1/32 Lightning (Yes, I know about it's problems, but it was an Xmas present) and we'll see how that turns out.

  16. My first for 2013, and a new build theme-Scandinavian Airforces. This is a kit I built about 13 years ago, restored and in a new scheme. Skiis are from the Roden Gladiator kit. I found the decals at Hannants. I forgot to touch up the gear legs... sorry, I have done it since, but I don't want to take the time to redo all the photos and post them to Photobucket. Enjoy Pat

  18. Hello and good morning, This is my first post and I am relatively new to the forum. My name is Ed and I recently got back into modeling when during a house move my fiancée discovered a few unbuilt kits sitting in a box left over from my childhood. She persuaded me I should have a go at building them - Now I've rediscover the model making bug and thought I'd share my pretty amateurish results with you all. I'm a member of a motoring forum and through a mutual member both here and there, decided I should post up my efforts. Hope you like. All comments appreciated. 20. Superglue to glue it and gven the thin metal, a decent pair of scissors should be enough to cut it. Or one of them steakknives that they advertise on tv. I have to be honest, I have no interest in the Javelin as it's an aircraft that's always left me cold (the RAF should have got the Vixen IMO) but this is an inspirational build.

  21. This is the Hobbycraft kit with a reshaped cowling (after some hours sanding and a few beers to keep from loosing my mind meanwhile)...not what I expected, next time I'll replace the cowling with a Testors one. Painted with Testors enamel and weathered with chalks. The decals were a real nightmare to deal with...Anyway, it's a simple, easy to build kit, and a very good looking subject. The perfect kit for a rainy weekend at home. I've always liked the looks of these french 'Cats at Indochine, absolutely out of place given the fact of their proposed tasks....I hope you'll like it.

  23. Radders, Looking great! I'll be really interested to see how the casting of the engines go. I am going to be brave enough and attempt to some of my own one day but have no experience in this whatsoever. I want to do a cast for my B-29 main wheels as it will save a lot of work. I don't blame you for putting the FOD guards on either as it'll save all the hassle of getting the interior of the engines looking right - not easy with a kit like that! Tom

  25. Now that the Festive fun is over and I hope everyone enjoyed their Christmas and New year hopefully everyone will get loads of modelling done in 2013. Anyway, I have been able to finish the basic shape of the horizontal tail surface, but still needs panel lines and flaps and small detail added and with the tail section, I have also moulded 4 main wheels which was taken from a wheel that a good friend on here created for me with the dimensions I took from Brooklands Vanguard. I have also received from Revell one prop and a front wheel from the Super Transell, the wheel is the perfect size but will need the inner wheel scratch building, the props will also need shortening in height but is OK in otherwise So now I can start the main wing, I have already made a start with the wing spar, nothing to fancy as this won't be seen anyway This photo shows the cutting and marking positions for the hinges for the horizontal tail section This shows the tail section after all the slots have been cut out Tail section completed Resin cast wheels with the master. Revell Super Transell prop Front wheel which I shall alter the inner hub and take a resin copy when done Finally the main wing spar

  32. Probably true, compared to the problems with the kit that I didn't bother to try and fix! I know what you mean. It was a fun project, and I really wanted to do that scheme. There is just something cool about those yellow and black stripes. I saw a picture of a Canberra painted that way - that would be cool. And I've got to believe that somewhere there was a Meteor target tug, too. As far as the Sea Venom goes, I have the CMR kit in stock, and I'm going to do that with Danni's Dad's colours. First I have to do a Grumman Jaguar for the Swing Wing Group Build, and then I have a Tigercat (with the Aires super detail set) to do for IPMS Noreastcon convention in May. Thanks! It was a battle at times, but mostly it behaved. I didn't say all those hairs were on my head!! Thanks a lot, guys! I truly appreciate the nice comments. Cheers, Bill

  33. This could be complicated... First, will the Tornado force be reduced again before the 5th Typhoon squadron stands up? If so, then the RAF will have to decide whether it wishes to re-equip II(AC) - the most senior squadron - or 617 (for obvious reasons) to avoid the risk of losing one of them, or whether 9, 12 or 31 should be re-equipped. Re-equipment takes precedence over reformation of dormant squadrons, thus the seniority question doesn't come into play if this is the way it's played. Then, will the SDSR determination that the Sentinel will be retired be fulfilled before next Typhoon squadron stands up? If so, then the answer is 5, since it will be an available numberplate and is 9th in terms of seniority. If Sentinel stays and Shadow (which is a UOR) is not retained, then 14 Squadron (5th on the list) is a shoo-in. It's only at this point that the question of dormant numberplates comes in. 25 is the most senior dormant numberplate with an appropriate role association, followed by 20 - which, of course, has multi-role credentials - followed by 23, 111 and 43 (although there is some suspicion that 43 was put lower down on the list (54th) than it ought to have been thanks to a basic maths error, it doesn't go charging up to the top of the table if this is the case). 19 is below 43 - and remember that under the seniority rules, being an OCU/Reserve number-plated unit doesn't count towards calculations of seniority. And 16 is a wild card, since it has disappeared off the radar, but is still there as a Tutor squadron and is quite senior, despite having become a reserve plate after Desert Storm . Then you have a further complication - which is that if the Sentinel/Shadow changes come about, and we see alterations to the way the ISTAR world operates, we may see the Air Staff taking the 56 numberplate out of ISTAR and putting it back into the frontline... And... well, you get my point. Timing plays quite a part here, particularly if there's some forward thinking going on (and despite popular opinion, this does take place) in terms of ensuring that the most senior numberplates don't disappear into the ether for years to come/forever. If the TGR4 force stays at the same strength until after the 5th Typhoon squadron forms, and the Sentinel and Shadow are retained/brought into core funding respectively, then I would guess that 25 is in pole position. That said, I wouldn't be at all surprised if one of the other senior numberplates gained this - particularly if there is any risk of II(AC) or 617 having to go when the fast jet force consists of Typhoon and F-35 (remember here that there is the likelihood that at least one of the F-35 numberplates will be an 800-series plate (the Joint F-35 force won't be a 50-50 split, so there is every chance that we may end up with just one). But since it now looks like we may have 7 Typhoon squadrons after all, this might not be an issue in choosing the numberplate for the 5th to be quite so important. There may be lobbying of the '43 is a Scottish squadron' variety, but this is invariably ignored - attempts to keep 139 alive by the Jamaican government were given short shrift, while the Air Staff's constant efforts to put 74 Squadron back on the ORBAT in the 70s always fell foul of the rules (to the point that there was a suggestion that it reform as a Victor tanker squadron to get it back!).

  37. this is the Minicraft kit, I completely remodelled the nose section. Nothing you can do about the wheels unfortunately. I also hope that someone will produce a 1/144 injection version. It's staggering that the Airbus family is well-served, and there's even a decent 787 in 1/144, an aircraft that has barely entered service. Considering there are more 777s out there than A330/340 combined, it's one of life's mysteries I suppose!
